Benj. P. ANDERSON

Was born in Norristown, Montgomery Co., PA May 15, 1839.  He was united in bond 
of matrimony in 1868 in Loretto, PA to Mary Bruce, who was born in this county 
Nov 28, 1844.  Her parents, no longer living were George and Amelia (McManany) 
Bruce.  Eight children were the issue of this marriage, Ella, Alice, Blanch, 
George, John, Ruth, Mead, dec., and Mary.  Comrade Anderson was 26 years of age 
at the time of his enlistment, which occurred at Johnstown, PA Aug 23, 1861.  He 
was enrolled as a private and before the close of hostilities had attained the 
rank of 2nd Lieut.  He was wounded at the battle of New Market, in right leg, 
and was treated there till Aug 6, 1864; thence to Stanton for 6 days during 
which time he was in the hands of the enemy, having been captured when wounded.  
He was sent to Libby Hospital, where he was paroled Sept 11, 1864 and sent to 
Annapolis, MD.  He took part in all of the engagements of his command until 
wounded, and was honorably discharged Jan 17, 1865.  His wife's brother Peter 
served in PA regiment.  Our subject passed from the shores of time June 11, 1897 
at Anderson Mills, PA from the effect of wound received in service.  His widow's 
address is Cresson, PA.
