The estate record, all 3 pages, of HENRY WERTZ who died circa 1824
Bedford Co, PA.  From Rev. War papers, Henry Wertz was born circa 1753.

"KNOW All Men by these Presents, That, WE WILLIAM GIBSON, JOHN HARSHBERGER,
JOHN KEESSER (KEEFFER?), & CHARLES MCDOWELL of the Borough of Bedford & County
of Bedford are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in
the sum of One thousand dollars, lawful money of the United States, to be paid
to the said Commonwealth, or their certain attorney.  To the which payment,
well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves jointly and severally, for and in
the whole, our heirs, executors and administrators, firmly by these presents.
Sealed with our seals, dated the Sixth day of February, in the year of our
Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty four.

     The Condition of this Obligation is such, That is the above bounden
WILLIAM GIBSON & JOHN HARSHBERGER

administrators of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of HENRY
WERTZ Senior late of Bedford County after, deceased, do make, or cause to be
made, a true and perfect inventory of all the goods, chattels and credits of
the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession or
knowledge of them the said WILLIAM GIBSON  & JOHN HARSHBERGER or unto the
hands and possession of any other person or persons for the, and the same; so
made, do exhibit or cause to be exhibited that said administrators in the
county of Bedford, at or before the Sixth day of March next ensuing; and the
same goods, chattles and credits, and all other the goods, chattels and
credits of the said deceased, at the time of his death, which at any time
after shall come to the hands and possession of the said WILLIAM GIBSON & JOHN
HARSHBERGER or unto the hands and possession of any other person or persons,
for them, do well and truly administer according to law.  And further do make,
or cause to be made, a true and just account of them said administration, at
or before the Sixth day of February in the year of our Lord, one thousand
eight hundred and twenty five, or when thereunto legally required; and all the
rest and residue of the said goods, chattels and credits, which shall be found
remaining upon the said administrators account, (the same being first examined
and allowed of by the Orphans Court of the county of Bedford) shall deliver
and pay unto such person or persons respectively, as the Orphans Court by
their decree or sentence, pursuant to the true intent and meaning of the
several laws now in force in this commonwealth, shall limit and appoint.  And
if it shall hereafter appear, that any last will and testament was made by the
deceased, and the executor or executors therein named, do exhibit the same
into the said Register's office, making request to have it allowed and
approved accordingly.  And if then the above bounden WILLIAM GIBSON & JOHN
HARSHBERGER, Administrators afore - - being thereunto required, do render and
deliver the said letters of administration, approbation of such testament
being first had and made in the said Registers office, then this obligation to
be void and of none effect, or else to remain in full force and virtue."

Taken as appraised by us the subscribers the 3rd day of March A.D. 1824
Bedford County          HUGH GIBSON & JOHN KESSE(KEFFE?)"

"On the 4th day of March 1824 before me the subscribers, one of the Justices
of the peace in and for Said County, came the above named HUGH GIBSON & JOHN
KEFFE who being qualified according to Law do ceclare that the above inventory
contains a just and true appraisement of the goods and chattels, rights and
credits of the said HENRY WERTZ, deceased.  So far as the same came to their
knowledge.

"KNOW All Men by these Presents, That, WE JOHN H. WEST, JOSEPH MORRISON &
SAMUEL M. BARCLAY, Esq. all of the Borough & County of Bedford are held and
firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in the sum of One hundred
dollars, lawful money of the United States, to be paid to the said
Commonwealth, or their certain attorney.  To the which payment, well and truly
to be made, we bind ourselves jointly and severally, for and in the whole, our
heirs, executors and administrators, firmly by these presents.  Sealed with
our seals, dated the fifth day of April, in the year of our Lord, one thousand
eight hundred and thirty three.

     The Condition of this Obligation is such, That is the above bounden JOHN
H. WEST, administrator, de lenis man,

of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of HENRY WERTZ late of
Bedford Borough, deceased, do make, or cause to be made, a true and perfect
inventory of all the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased, which
have or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of them the said JOHN
H. WEST or unto the hands and possession of any other person or persons for
him: and the same; so made, do exhibit or cause to be exhibited, into the
Registers office, in the county of Bedford, within thirty days from the date
hereof; and the same goods, chattels, and credits of the said deceased at the
time of his death, which at any time after shall come to the hands or
possession of the said JOHN H. WEST or unto the hands and possession of any
other person or persons, for him, do well and truly administer according to
law.  And further do make, or cause to be made, a true and just account of
them said administration, within one year from the date hereof, or when
thereunto legally required, and all the rest and residue of the said goods,
chattels and credits, which shall be found remaining upon the said
administrators account, (the same being first examined and allowed of by the
Orphans Court of the county of Bedford) shall deliver and pay unto such person
or persons respectively, as the Orphans Court by their decree or sentence,
pursuant to law, shall limit and appoint.  And shall well and truly comply
withthe laws of this Commonwealth relating to collateral inheritances.  And,
if it shall hereafter appear that any last will and testament was made by the
said deceased, and the same shall be proved according to law, if the said JOHN
H. WEST being hereunto required, do surrender the said letters of
administration into the Register's office aforesaid, then this obligation to
be void, otherwise to remain in full force."
