Died, October 3d, 1886, in Clinton, Pa, Mattie M, daughter of D.L. and
  Jane Cupps, aged 16 years.
The subject of this notice had been quite ill with scarlet rash for some
days; but apparently recovered from the affects of the disease, so much that
(unclear)... However, her health began to decline, yet there was no apparent
cause for alarm, until a short time before her death. She died unexpetedly
[sic] in a congestive chill. Mattie was an unusually bright child. Her
innocent, kind and social disposition had gained for her many warn friends.
She and a favorite school mate had arranged to sit together during the then
coming term of school and often she expressed the wish to be able to go. But
alas, her school days were to an end. Her maker called her to sit up higher and
her soul parted from its clay tenement leaving a beautiful smile on her young
young [sic] face that was still lovely, even in death. She was an ardent
admirer of God's work and has left behind her many little sketches from
nature, one of which she named, "The Lonely Hollow." They will all be held in
sacred remembrance by the grief stricken family. She leaves a father, mother,
two sisters and two brothers to mourn her loss.
