  CHARLES L. CORNELY, postmaster of Madera from June 21, 1901, to April 1, 1911, 
and proprietor of a general store at Madera, Pa., was born at Madera in 1875, 
and is a son of James and Christina (Bowers) Cornely.  The father, who died in 
December, 1898, was of Irish descent.  He was a blacksmith by trade and later a 
merchant.  He married Christina Bowers, of German extraction, and she survives.
  Charles L. Cornely obtained his education in the Madera schools and afterward 
assisted his father for several years in his store and has continued the 
business.  In politics he is a Republican and for six years served as auditor of 
Bigler township.  In 1900 Mr. Cornely was married to Miss Rose Stitt, a daughter 
of James Stitt, of Madera, Clearfield county, and they have four children:  
Vivian, Evelyn, Christian and James.  Mr. and Mrs. Cornely attend the 
Presbyterian church.  He is identified fraternally with the Masons at Osceola 
Mills, and the I. O. R. M. at Madera.
