  Dr. Simon Hubler, aged seventy years, of 340 Eutler street, Dunmore, father 
of Attorney H. C. Hubler, died last evening at his home. He is survived by his 
wife and one son, Attorney Hubler.
  Dr Hubler was born in Center County July 12, 1843. His parents were J. K. and 
Catherine Hubler. In 1850, with his parents, he moved to Huntingdon Mills, 
Luzerne county, where they resided until August 12, 1862, when Dr. Hubler 
enlisted in Co C, One Hundred and Forty third Regiment, Pennsylvania 
Volunteers, under the command of Col. Edmund Dana.
  Dr. Hubler participated in the following battles: Chancellorsville, 
Gettysburg, Wilderness, Petersburg, Welden railroad and the first and second 
battles of Hatcher's Run. After the last battle he was removed to Hart's Island, 
N.Y. to guard Confederate prisoners. In the battle of the wilderness May 6, 
1864, Dr. Hubler lost part of his left thumb. the company was mustered out of 
service June 12, 1863.
  After his army service Dr. Hubler studied medicine and was graduated from the 
University of Pennsylvania 1879. He opened an office at Herrick Center, 
Susquehanna county, where he remained until 1895, when he moved to Elysburg, 
Northumberland county, until 1901, when he located in Dunmore, where he 
remained ever since.
  January 25, 1872, he was united in marriage to Julia Bird, at Cunningham 
[Conyngham], Luzerne county. Besides his widow and son, Dr. Hubler is survived 
by the following brothers and sisters: Dr. P. F. Hubler of West Pittston, Jesse 
R. Hubler of Mill City, and Alfred Hubler, of New Albany, Bradford county. Dr. 
Hubler was a member of Ezar Griffin post No. 139, Grand Army of the Republic.
