Falls Township

JOHN BROOKS farmer, P.O. Morrisville, son of Jesse and Jane
(Girton) Brooks, was born in this township August 6, 1819,
his ancestors being among the early English and German
settlers of this state. His father was a carpenter by trade
and later a farmer. John Brooks was the third of a family
of five children. He was reared on the farm, attended
school in Fallsington and Oxford Valley, and learned the
shoemaker's trade. He has made farming his principal
occupation and owns a beautiful place on the banks of the
Delaware, near William Penn's old farm. He devotes
considerable time to fishing, which he makes a source of
profit and pleasure, employing sometimes as many as
twenty-four men. He started in life poor, but by
perseverance and judicious management has accumulated a
goodly share of this world's goods. His success is in no
small degree due to the excellent household management of
his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married in 1841. She was a
daughter of John and Martha (Headley) Weaymans, both natives
of this county and of English origin. Their children are:
John, born December 1, 1842; George Elwood, born February 7,
1850, and Edward, born January 15, 1856. Mr. Brooks is a
republican.
