 Doylestown A-L

F. A. CONEY, D. D. S. P.O. Doylestown, was born in Lock
Haven, Pa., November 20, 1854, and is a son of David and
Hannah (Condon) Coney, natives of Maine, and of German and
Scotch descent. David Coney, our subject's father, was born
in Huntingdon county, this state. He is the father of ten
children, eight of whom are living: Frank A., Warren M.,
Ella M., Robert R., Elmer H., Levi H., William and Jessie.
Flora and Ruth were the names of those deceased. The
parents are still living and reside in Williamsport,
Lycoming county, Pa. Our subject was about 15 years of age
when his parents moved to Williamsport, where he attended
the commercial college. At the age of 21 he entered the
dental office of A. S. Rhoads, of Williamsport, where he
remained two years, after which he went to Princeton, N. J.,
as an assistant. He remained at that place with P. J.
Wilson, dentist, until the fall of 1880, when he entered the
dental department of the University of Pennsylvania, at
Philadelphia, and took one course of lectures there. In the
spring of 1881 he came to Doylestown and entered into
partnership with John S. Rhoads, who died about six weeks
later. Dr. Coney took entire charge of the business until
the end of the year. In the spring of 1882 he purchased the
building of Dr. F. Swortzlande, where he now resides. Dr.
Coney is an able dentist and enjoys a large practice. In
the fall of 1882 he matriculated in the old Baltimore
College of Dental Surgery, the oldest of its kind in the
world, where he graduated in March, 1883. He was married
June 27, 1882, to Flora A., daughter of Edward and Lydia Ann
(Landis) Yost, of Bucks county. Dr. and Mrs. Coney are
members of the Presbyterian church. He is also a member of
the Masonic fraternity and Odd Fellows.
