Buckingham Township


SAMUEL E. BROADHURST farmer, P.O. Buckingham, was born in 
Solebury township, Bucks county, February 25, 1823, and is a 
son of Joseph and Rachel Broadhurst, of English descent.  
The family came to this county in the early part of the 
seventeenth century.  Thomas, the grandfather, was a farmer 
during his early life.  He was a resident of Solebury 
township several years.  He died in Centreville, Bucks 
county.  Our subject's father moved to Buckingham township 
in 1826, and bought the farm where Samuel now lives.  He 
lived several years on this farm, when he bought a small 
place and lived a retired life.  He died in 1868.  He was 
the father of four children, three living:  Mary A. (wife of 
Samuel Johnson Paxson), Samuel, and Caroline L., wife of 
Oliver Howard Wilson.  Our subject was reared as a farmer, 
which occupation he has followed all his life on the farm he 
now lives on.  He was married in 1848 to Sarah T. Reeder, by 
whom he has three children two of whom are living:  Joseph 
J. and Horace G.   Horace G. Broadhurst was first married to 
Frances Lovett, by whom he has one child, Anna M.  His 
second wife is Fanny J. Smith, by whom he has two children: 
Sarah J. and Joseph P.  Mr. Broadhurst has been trustee of 
the Hughsean school for a number of years, and also 
president of the Buckingham and Doylestown turnpike company.
