Mrs. John B. Colvin

Ida Bortz was born in Juniata township, near the Point school house, where her
brother Wilbur resides, on September 19, 1865, and died at her home on Main
street, Schellsburg, March 20,1900, aged thirty-four years, six months and
seven days. A little over two years ago, decedent was united in holy matrimony
to John B. Colvin, by Rev. Walter K. Whitney, of the M. E. church, of which she
was a faithful member. Their union was blessed by a son, born only a week ago.
How soon is the husband and father's joy turned into mourning. Decedent
leaves to mourn their loss, besides her husband and infant son, an aged mother
residing at this place, one sister, Mrs. Mary Twig, of Davis, W. Va., and three
brothers, Wilbur Bortz, on the old homestead, in Juniata township,
Erastus Bortz, of Nevada, and Harry Bortz, of Schellsburg. The infant son has
found a foster mother in his aunt, Mrs. George Colvin. Decedent was of a quiet,
retiring disposition and was a good neighbor, a warm friend and a devoted wife.
The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from her late residence and was
conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. A. Lepley. The husband did all in his power to
have his wife restored to health, but it was ordered otherwise and he is left
sad and lonely. He has the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community in this
his sorrow and bereavement. GIDEON.
