Altoona Mirror, 27 October 1905

SAMUEL CLAYCOMB a well known resident of the Eighth ward, died at his home, at 
10:40 last night of paralysis.  The deceased was born in Pleasantville, Bedford 
county, November 23, 1834.  He was reared and educated in his native town and 
remained in the vicinity until the outbreak of the civil war, when he enlisted 
and served in company G., Eleventh Pennsylvania cavalry.  At the close of the 
war in 1865 he came to Altoona and secured employment in the Pennsylvania 
railroad company cabinet shop, where he worked until 1903, when he was 
retired.  He was a member of the Fifth Avenue Methodist church and Logan lodge, 
No. 1059, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.  Mr. Claycomb was married at 
Martinsburg, PA., in 1858, to Katurah McCumpsey, who survives with five 
children-Mrs. A.E. Goetz of Youngstown, O., Mrs. A.M. Knepper of Minneapolis, 
Mrs. H.H. Vogt, Edward E. and Warren of Altoona. He is also survived by these 
brothers and sisters; John of Johnstown, Andrew of Windber, Henry of 
Pleasantville, Mrs. Amanda Berkheimer of Osterburg, Mrs. Sara Hull of 
Osterburg, Mrs. Leah Riggs of Altoona and Mrs. Mary Sellers of Lilly.
