MRS. MATILDA J. BLACKBURN

Wife of J. E. Blackburn, died at her home at Alum Bank, Bedford county, 
this morning at 3.50 o'clock, death being attributed to a complication 
of ailments. Mrs. Blackburn had been confined to her bed for over a 
year and had been in a serious condition for some time. She was born at 
Cessna on July 10, 1856, a daughter of Jacob and Amanda (Hillegas) 
Bowser, and was united in marriage with Mr. Blackburn, well known 
Bedford county funeral director, in August, 1877, who survives, with 
three children, Mrs. C. H. Smith of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Harry Watkins and 
J. Clifford Blackburn, of Alum Bank. Also surviving is one brother, G. 
C. Bowser of Alum Bank, the only surviving member of a family of nine 
children of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bowser. Mrs. Blackburn spent her entire 
life in the community and was a member of the Lutheran church. Funeral 
services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home 
at Alum Bank, in charge of Rev. Michael Kauffman, pastor of the 
Evangelical church. Interment will be made in the Pleasantville 
cemetery.
