BECHTEL.

John S. Bechtel of New Enterprise died at his home Nov. 8 of diseases
incident to old age. He was born in South Woodbury township, Bedford
county, Feb. 26, 1837, and was aged 81 years, 8 months and 12 days. He
was a son of Peter and Elizabeth Bechtel, both deceased. He was
married Feb. 1, 1866, to Miss Mary Kochendarfer, who preceded him to
the spirit world about two years ago. He is survived by the following
children: Cyrus E. Bechtel of New Enterprise, R.D., and Mrs. Minnie
Guyer and Miss Lizze [sic] Bechtel of New Enterprise; also the
following sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Bechtel of Woodbury, and Mrs. Daniel
Grubb of Frederickstown, O. The deceased was one of New Enterprise's
oldest citizens, was of a quiet, unassuming character, having many
friends, and few if any enemies. He spent his entire life in the
township in which he was born, and until about two years ago, when he
moved into New Enterprise followed farming on a farm adjoining the one
on which he was born. He was a consistent member of the Church of the
Brethren. A private funeral was held from his late home yesterday
morning at 10 o'clock. Elders David T. Detwiler and Stover H. Kulp
were in charge.
