CHALMER BAUGHMAN.

Monday afternoon Chalmer Baughman of Yellow Creek, was instantly killed in the
cemetery at Yellow Creek while seeking shelter from a severe storm. J. H.
Burket, William Burket, Earl Burket, Elwood Replogle and young Baughman were
digging a grave in the cemetery in which to bury the remains of Mrs. Samuel
Ritchey. Suddenly dark clouds appeared and soon a terrific storm was on. The
men all sought shelter in the tool house in the cemetery. The building was
toppled over by the severe storm. J. H. Burket, William Burket and Replogle
succeeded in getting out of the building. Baughman in attempting to get away
was caught under the building and instantly killed, his neck having been broken.
Earl Burket stayed in the building and was not hurt. The tragic death of
Baughman shocked the entire community.

He was a young man aged about 22 years and had his home with Thomas Clapper and
family, Mr. Clapper having raised him. He was a man of splendid habits and
character, with good standing in the community where he had the respect of
everybody. His mother died some years ago. His father, John Baughman, lives in
the vicinity of Bedford. A number of brothers and sisters survive. Miss Mamie
Baughman, residing here with Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Deford, at the Central Hotel, is
a sister. The funeral took place yesterday morning from the residence of Thomas
Clapper. Interment was made in the cemetery in which he was killed.
