WILLIAM E. BENCE  95, of Vandergrift, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1975 at

Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.



A son of Henry and Anna Cribbs Bence, he was born March 28, 1880 at

Dixonville.



Mr. Bence lived in the Vandergrift area for most of his life. He was

employed by American Sheet & Tin Plate Company (now U.S. Steel) in

Vandergrift until his retirement in 1945.



Surviving are five daughters: Mrs. Marie Botsford, Santa Anna Calif.: Mrs.

Mildred Kunkle, Vandergrift; Mrs. Bernadine Carnahan, Salina; Mrs. Jean

Townsend, San Ramon, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth Retter, Vandergrift; 13

grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Baxter Bence in April, 1973;

two sons, Clair in 1972, and Sterling in 1952, also a daughter, Mrs.

Marguertie Myers in 1936.



Friends will be received from 7-9 pm today and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday at

the Dunmire-Kerr Funeral Home, 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, where

services will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, at 1:30 pm with the Rev. R.S.

McGrew of Wellsburg, VA and the Rev. Robert Neil, his pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.
