According to records at Greenwood Cemetery...John D. Bence died Oct. 29,

1928. There was no date on the clipping that follows.







DEATH CALLS JOHN D. BENCE



WELL-KNOWN RESIDENT PASSED AWAY AT EARLY HOUR TODAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS



John D. Bence passed away at his home on South Fifth street this morning at

3:25 o'clock, after a lingering illness. Mr. Bence was born in Rayne

Township, November 6, 1849, where he lived until 1912, when the family home

was established in Indiana. Mr. Bence was one of the progressive farmers of

his community and served as a justice of the peace for twenty years.



He was a son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Rinn) Bence. Mr. Bence was united in

marriage to Lyda A. Shields, September 19, 1871, she having preceded him to

the grave twelve years ago. To this union were two sons, W.A. Bence, with

whom he made his home, and S.B. Bence of Marion Center, both of whom

survive. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mary C. Boucher of Beaverdale and

Mrs. J.S. Lightcap of Marion Center and five grandchildren.



He united with Bethel Lutheran Church at the age of 13 years, where he was a

member until he united with Zion Lutheran Church, Indiana, 14 years ago.



Services will be conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Dr. B.F. Bieber, at the

family residence, 315 South Fifth street, Wednesday afternoon at two

o'clock. Interment will be made in Greenwood Cemetery.
