JAMES LUTHER BENCE of Indiana, died on Friday in the Indiana Hospital where

he had been a patient for one day. He was born near Dixonville, April 7,

1879, a son of James and Roseanna Everwine Bence, and lived in the vicinity

of Dixonville all his life, until coming to Indiana six years ago owned and

operated a store in Dixonville until his retirement several years ago. Mr.

Bence was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and teacher of the Adult Men's

Bible Class.



He is survived by his wife, Elsie Sickenberger Bence, a son, James Carlisle

of Collingwood, N.J.; two daughters, Josephine, wife of Reverend Alford Naus

and Esther Elizabeth, wife of Joseph F. Clifford, both of Merchantville,

N.J.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; four brothers: Harry E.,

John L., and Charles L. of Indiana; Clarence D. of Marion Center, and a

sister, Mrs. Genevieve Wayman of Lakeland, FLA.



Friends will be received at Robinsons, Sunday from 5 to 9 pm and on Monday

at Bethel Lutheran Church one hour prior to the service which will be

conducted on Monday at 2:00 pm (DST). Rev. Alford R. Naus will officiate

interment following in Bethel Church Cemetery.
