The funeral of Miss Mary Finnegan took place on Tuesday morning last, in
this city, and was attended with more than usual attention. She was a a
teacher in Franklin public school, Sourth Ward, and in testimony of the
appreciation of her merits and character, all the public schools of the city
were closed, and the teachers attended her funeral in a body, forming an
escort. Following the teachers came the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin, of
which she was a member. Her remains were taken to St. Michael's Church, where
impressive ceremonies were performed. It is seldom so much honor and respect
is paid to the departed.
