DELAWARE COUNTY REPUBLICAN

DEATH OF A GOOD CITIZEN. - We record with deep sorrow and regret, the death of
our esteemed friend and fellow citizen, WILLIAM EYRE, Jr. of this Borough. Few
men in our midst were more beloved - none held in higher esteem by the community
in which he lived. He was honest, upright, generous and confiding - a kind
husband and parent. His genial disposition endeared him to all who had his
acquaintance, and his absence will create a void in society which time alone can
fill. His worth as a man and a citizen is chronicled in our obituary column, and
to this earnest and truthful testimony, we can only add the feeble, but sincere
expression of our sympathy with the members of the family in the afflicting
dispensation, which, in the wisdom of Providence, they are called upon to bear.

March 13, 1863 DELAWARE COUNTY REPUBLICAN Obituary Departed this life, on
Sixth day morning last, at his late residence in this Borough, WILLIAM
EYRE, JR. in the fifty sixth year of his age. .Apart from his duties of
home, in common with his fellow citizens. he took a lively concern in
whatever was of interest to them and to himself, and participated, by
giving his aid as an active business man and citizen, to the general
requirements of the society in which he moved. He was, at one time,
Treasurer of the county, and, for many years, a Director and Officer of the
Delaware Mutual Safety Insurance Company, of Philadelphia, and, also, at
the time of his death, one of the Directors of the Bank of Delaware County.
As in all his relations of life, so in these, he discharges his duty with
entire faithfulness, gaining the respectful confidence of those with whom
he associated, and by whom his cheerful sociability has been, and will be,
held in high esteem....
