Joseph Crystle, Veteran, Dies
Upland Man Saw Service in the Spanish-American War; Funeral Friday

  Joseph Crystle, 49, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, died in the
League Island Naval Hospital, yesterday, following an illness of six weeks.
His funeral will be held from his late residence, No. 4 Third street, 
Upland, on Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock.  The interment will be at the
Chester Rural Cemetery.
  Mr. Crystle was a resident of Upland for the past six years.  He was well
known in this city, where years ago he was employed on one of the milk 
routes conducted by his father and brothers who lived on a farm near 
Waterville.
  Mr. Crystle served with Company B. of the National Guard, during the
Spanish-American War and following his discharge from that organization
he enlisted in the United States Navy.  He served on the Schoolship
Saratoga and later on the cruisers Olympia, Scorpion and Machias.
  He was taken ill about six wseeks ago and when his condition failed to 
improve he was admitted to the Crozer Hospital.  Ten days ago he was 
removed to the League Island Naval Hospital for further treatment.
  He was a member of the ??mund W. Lynch Camp. No. 94, United Spanish-
War Veterans, and menthers of that organization will conduct their service 
at the home tomorrow evening.
  Besides his widow, Mrs. Martha Crystle, he is survived by the following
children: Mrs. Anna Martin, Richard Crystle, Dorothy Crystle, Thomas 
Crystle, Josephine Crystle, Gilbert Crystle, Margaret Crystle, Jack
Crystle, and Mrs. Catherine Spaniola, of Milmont.
  The following brothers and sisters also survive; William, of this city;
Charles and John, of Garden City; James, of Twin Oaks; Mrs. George 
Schureman, of this city; Mrs. Curtis Blin-Singer, of Downingtown, and
Mrs. Walter C. Foster, of Mt. Alverno.
