Pittsburgh Gazette, Jan. 23, 1893
Miss Emma Catherine Riggs died at the residence of her father in Library on
Friday evening Jan. 20, 1893 after a long illness. Miss Riggs was 33 years of
age and was well known to many Pittsburgh people as for the past six years she
has been a stenographer for one of the largest of the Smithfield Street
firms. Consumption was the immediate cause of death & she has been in failing
health for some time & never seemed to have fully recovered from the effects
of the death of her favorite brother, Elmer, some 4 years ago. She was always
noted for her kind & Christianlike disposition & her loss will be keenly
felt. Miss Riggs was a niece of the Drs. Riggs of the South Side. Her
remains will be interred in the churchyard of the Peters Creek Baptist Church
at Library today, she having been a member of that congregation for almost 20
years.
