Presbyterian banner. (Pittsburgh, Pa.) 1860-1898: 30 Sep 1863
Died September 3d, commencing in dysentery and ending in heart disease, Mrs.
Elizabeth, wife of Mr. William Barnes, Jr., of Penn Township, Westmoreland county,
Pa., aged 48 years. Another household of the same relative connexion is bereaved.
Another mother in Israel is fallen, one who adorned all the relations of life.
Truly, " to know her was to love her." Of a weakly constitution, she was suddenly
attacked while on a visit at the house of a married daughter; and though after a day
or two her disease abated, and everything promised a speedy recovery and the
realization, of her ardent wish, viz., to return to her home and family,
nevertheless they were doomed to disappointment. Suddenly, but surely, her earthly
tabernacle was taken down, and on the morning of the 2d ult., in the presence of
relatives and friends, she breathed, her last. By her unlooked-for death, the
community in which she lived has suffered an irreparable loss; the Church of Christ
is deprived of a consistent member, and her afflicted family are called to mourn the
untimely departure of an honored head, a good mother, a warmhearted sister, and a
devoted and affectionate wife.
