Alfred R. Van Auken
 
PAYETTE -  Services for Alfred Richard Van Auken, 81, Payette, who died Monday 
at a Boise hospital will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Shaffer-Jensen 
Memory Chapel, by Pastor Weber McGarrah of the Church of the Nazarene.  
Interment will be a Riverside Cemetery.
 
He was born Aug. 5, 1893 in South? English, Iowa.  He served with the U.S. 
Army during World War I.  He married Edna Blanche Bruner, July 16, 1919 in 
Wheatland, Wyo.  He moved to Payette in 1936.  He worked for the Union Pacific 
Railroad and retired in 1958.
 
He was a member of the Wheatland Methodist Church and John Webster Rhoades 
American Legion Post in Payette.
 
Surviving are three sons, Eugene of Boise, John of Weiser, and Robert of 
Huntington, Ore; four daughters, Mrs. Ruth James of Hermiston, Ore., Mrs. Erma 
Thorne of Milwaukie, Ore., Mrs. Margaret Dallman of Portland and Mrs. Blanche 
Fisher of Stanfield, Ore.; six sisters, Margaret Leavis and Opal Boone, both 
of California, Georg?? cline and Ethel Coffin both of Otumwah, Iowa, Mrs. 
Dorothy Smith? of Arizona, and Millie Peterson of Adair, Iowa, 31? 
grandchildren and 29? great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his 
wife and a son and two sisters.
