The Carnesville Herald March 25, 1942
Duard W. Payne, who was sent overseas in January, 1942 with the Army, has been 
wounded and taken prisoner by the Italian government, according to a message 
received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar S. Payne of 288 Logan Street, N. E. 
Educated in Carnesville, Ga., he left school and was employed as a truck driver 
until he was inducted into the Army two years ago. He was trained at Fort Knox, 
Ky.

His brother, Private First Class Troy D. Payne, is on foreign duty with the Marine 
Corps. He attended Hoke Smith Junior High School and was employed as a truck 
driver for the Atlanta Georgian.

At the time of his enuistment last June, Troy was a member of the National Guard. 
He received his training at Parris Island, S.C. and New River, N.C.--Atlanta 
Constitution
