M. Esther BARR, 87, of RD. 2, Box 175, Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Dec 4,
2001, at 5:50 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon,
following a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 21, 1914. in Jackson Township,
she was the daughter of the late Archie and Rosalind Bickett) Barr. She
was preceded in death by three sisters: Hazel Williams, Florence Smith
and Eleanor White. Six nephews and one niece survive. Miss Barr was a
member of the McAlevys Fort Presbyterian Church, McAlevys Fort, where
she served as a former elder and deacon. A 1932 graduate of Stone Valley
High School, she graduated from Lock Haven State Teachers College in
1946 and received a master's degree in education from Pennsylvania
State University in 1955. She retired from the Huntingdon area schools
after 40 years of service. She taught at Cornpropst Mills Elementary
School, Juniata Valley School District and William Smith Elementary
School in Huntingdon. She was a member of the National Education
Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Huntingdon
and state chapters, American Association of University Women and Women
Christian Temperance Union. She was also a member of the McAlevys Fort
Civic Association and Presbyterian Women. Miss Barr enjoyed traveling.
reading and church activities. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 7, at the McAlevys Fort Presbyterian Church, with lay
pastor Dan Morris officiating. Interment will be made in the Greenlea
Cemetery, McAlevys Fort.
