Donald Hopple BAER, 84, of 14202 Croghan Pike, Allenport, Mount Union, passed away on March 15, 2006, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Don was born in Mercersburg, and he was the son of the late Charles A. and Emma Jane (Hopple) Baer. He was married to Geraldine Jane (Horne) Baer, on May 9, 1942. His wife survives, along with her two daughters, Jo Ann Adams and husband James R., Palmyra, Chris Lynn Morgan, Saltillo; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter and a step-great-granddaughter. Mr. Baer was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Dawn Wagner. He was also preceded in death by the following four sisters and six brothers; Ruth Hornbaker, Kathleen Henry Cornelius, Nellie Virginia (Peg) Gillam, Mary Lightner Yetter, Harry Dan Baer, Harvey Nelson Baer, Ted Baer, Kenneth "Bud" Baer, Earl "Bill" Bear, and Merle "Bob" Baer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II. Don retired from Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union. As members of the Penn Central Racing Association, Donald and his brother, Bob, were known as "the Baer Boys" and were involved in stock car racing for over 15 years. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. There will be a memorial service held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 25, at the Allenport United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mike Dubbs officiating.
