Helen Catherine BAKER, 90, of Jameson Care Center, New Castle, and
formerly of Porter Township, Southside, Alexandria, died at 6 p.m.
Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the center. Born Oct. 25, 1915, in
Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Nora (Kyper)
Hall. She was twice married. Her first union was to Joseph Kenneth Houck
in 1933. Mr. Houck preceded her in death Dec. 24, 1963. She later
married H. Roland Baker, Aug. 15, 1969. Mr. Baker preceded her in death
Sept. 15, 1977. Mrs. Baker is survived by a son and a daughter, Joseph
K. "Joe" Houck and wife, Linda, Enon Valley and Patsy J. Norris and
husband, Darrell, New Florence; and six grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Martha Anderson and
husband, William, Huntingdon. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Alexandria
United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Standing Stone and
Juniata Valley senior citizens. Mrs. Baker was a 1933 graduate of
Alexandria High School. She worked for a number of years for the J.C.
Blair Co. and Mead Corporation. She also worked as a receptionist at
the Holiday Inn Jr., predecessor to Days Inn, for a number of years
during the 1960s. Mrs. Baker had been a resident ot the Jameson Care
Center since 2003. Prior to that, she had been a lifetime resident of
Huntingdon County. She enjoyed reading, gardening and shopping. Funeral
services will he held at 11 am. Wednesday, March 8, at the
Cutright-Speck Funeral Home - Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St.,
Alexandria, with Pastor Randy Willis officiating. Interment will be made
in the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery.
