Vivian Z. BAKER, 95, of 709 14th St., Huntingdon, died at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, June 19, 2002. Born March 24, 1907, in Allensville, she was
the daughter of the late Blaine E. and Margaret E. (Bordell) Zerby. She
was first married to Charles E. Hoffman Sr. June 16, 1940. He preceded
her in death Jan. 18, 1966. She was then married to Walter E. Baker Aug.
22, 1971, at St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, by the Rev. Walter
Smith. Mr. Baker preceded her in death July 25, 1990. She was preceded
in death by a son, Kenneth E. Welfey Sr., Aug. 3, 1993, and a grandson.
Two grandchildren survive along with six stepchildren. A sister
survives: Carrie C. Jones of Allensville. Mrs. Baker was a member of the
St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. She was a member of
the Auxiliary to the Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, American Legion,
Huntingdon, since 1949 and past president in 1958; a member of the
auxiliary to the Standing Stone Post No. 1754, Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Huntingdon; past grand counselor of United Commercial Travelers (UCT)
and received her honors in 1985 from the Huntingdon Auxiliary No. 394; a
member of the women of the Moose Lodge No. 220, Huntingdon, since 1985;
a member of World War One Veterans of Juniata Barracks No. 1433; and the
Standing Stone Senior Citizens organization. Educated in the public
schools of Allensville and Belleville, Mifflin County, she was employed
as a clerk at the E. Lloyd Bergantz Store in Huntingdon from 1935 to
1941. She later worked for Grove's Taxi Service in Huntingdon on the
switchboard and went to work at Snare Brothers Store in Smithfield as a
clerk from 1953 to 1969. she retired in 1974 from Wilson's TV Store,
Huntingdon, where she entered employment in 1969. Mrs. Baker enjoyed
playing cards and bingo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
Saturday, June 22, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 417
Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. James A. Stork
officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon.
