Nora (Christoff) BATALIS, 77, of 50 Taylor Apartments, Mount Union, died
at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at her home. Her death was
unexpected. Born March 18, 1923, in Lucy Furnace, Mount Union, R.D. 1,
she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Diduch) Christoff. She
was first married to Christos Papazis, who preceded her in death Oct.
25, 1943. Her second husband, Michael Batalis, died April 23, 1974.
Three children survive: James Papas of Newark, Del.; Anthony Papazis of
Long Island, N.Y., and Tina Bauerle of Princeton, N.J. There are seven
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Four sisters also survive:
Mary Keib of Michigan, Jane Noske of California, Anne Shue of Texas, and
Helen Christoff of Mount Union, R.D. 1. The following brothers and
sisters preceded her in death: Stanley Christoff, Andrew Christoff,
Violet Christoff and Josephine Gallo. Mrs. Batalis was a member of the
Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Mount Union. She was primarily a
homemaker and was active in supporting church functions and loved to
crochet and sew. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb.
13, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev.
Stephen Kundla officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union
Cemetery.
