Stephen R. ATHERTON, 46, of Three Springs, died March 29, 2004, at
Altoona Hospital, Altoona, as a result of injuries sustained in a
logging accident while at work earlier in the day near Allensville. Born
March 18, 1958, in Springfield, Mass., he was the son of Leslie M. and
Constance (Ginithan) Atherton of Big Greenbriar Road, McVeytown. He was
married to Peggy M. (Yohn) Atherton who preceded him in death and was
formerly married to Annette J. (Starr) Atherton of Hill Valley. He is
survived by four sons: Randy J. Atherton, and his wife, April, of James
Creek; and Corey R. Atherton, Scott M. Atherton and Danny L. Atherton,
all of Three Springs; and one granddaughter, LaKendra Atherton. Five
sisters and two brothers survive: Tonja Charnesky of Florida, David
Atherton of McVeytown, Debra Beck of Huntingdon, Michael Atherton Sr. of
McVeytown, Lucinda Parsons of Midland, Mich., Linda Atherton of Germany
Valley and Laurie Gray of Mechanicsburg. Mr. Atherton attended Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints Church in Mill Creek. He had attended Mount
Union Area High School. Mr. Atherton was a self-employed logger and had
formerly worked for Henkles and McCoy. He enjoyed spending time with his
granddaughter and also enjoyed his work. He liked hunting and fishing
and hunting for mushrooms and was a NASCAR fan. Funeral services will be
held April 2, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with
President Richard Hark officiating. Interment will be made in Saltillo
Cemetery.
