Carla S. BARLEY, 60, of Penn Twp., James Creek, died March 14, 2004, at
The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, following an extended
illness. Born Feb. 29, 1944, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Carl
Lester and Dorothy Blanche (Garner) Stapleton, who survive in
McConnellstown. She was united in marriage to John F. Barley Sept. 2,
1967, at Abbey Reformed Church in Huntingdon. She is survived by her
husband at their James Creek, residence; a son and daughter, twins,
Kevin L. Barley, and his wife, Amy, of Oakmont and Kelly E. States, and
her husband, Chad, of Huntingdon; and a special granddaughter, Erin
Kelly States of Huntingdon. Two sisters, Arlene Gulics of Woodbridge,
N.J. and Jody Snare of McConnellstown, and one brother, Ron
Stapleton,and his wife, Diana, of Six Mile Run, survive. Mrs. Barley was
a member of Abbey Reformed-United Church of Christ in Huntingdon, where
she served on the executive council, missions committee, Christian
education committee and stewardship committee. She served on the board
of directors of Huntingdon County PRICE, where she had served as
president and, most recently, treasurer. For the past 21 years, she was
responsible for coordinating the cashiers' tables at the annual PRIDE
Telethon. She was also a charter member of the Woodcock Valley Lioness
Club. Mrs. Barley graduated from Huntingdon Area High School with the
Class of 1962. After graduation, she attended Hagerstown Medical
Secretarial School and completed her training as an EEG technician. She
worked with her husband in his business, Barley and Co., and was owner
of Alpha staff Incorporated. Her previous employment included Polyclinic
Hospital in Harrisburg and the former Prismo Safety Corporation. Mrs.
Barley was recognized as an outstanding citizen in the community and was
awarded the Easter Seals "Brace of an Ace" Award in 1987. She was
honored with the prestigious Huntingdon County PRIDE Award in 2001. The
family encourages everyone to attend a memorial service in celebration
of Mrs. Barley's life March 21, at Abbey Reformed-United Church of
Christ, Sixth and Church streets, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Gary H.
Marcy officiating.
