E. D. BOOK
Shade Valley, Huntingdon Co., Pa.

Farmer: E. D. Book was born in Hill Valley, Huntingdon Co., Pa., July 28, 
1870.  A son of Samuel Book, a farmer, who owned a farm of 220 acres.  The 
farm came into the possession of the subject of this sketch.  Samuel Book 
married Mary Widney, both deceased; the father died in 1923, at the age of 
eighty-two years, and the mother dying in 1919, at the age of seventy-three 
years.  The farm previously belonged to Samuel Book's father, and it is the 
homestead.  E. D. Book has been a farmer all his life; was a school director.  
He belongs to the Presbyterian Church of Waterloo, Juniata Co., Pa.; his wife 
also when living.  He has been an inspector on the election board.  A 
Republican.  He has two brothers:  William, of Blain Perry Co., a miller; Dr. 
O. S. W. Book, who was married to Esther Neistrom of Galesburg, Ill; two 
sisters.  Elva is married to O. B. Jeffries, Altoona, Pa.  Two sisters are 
deceased; Annie, six years of age, and Ella, three years.  E. D. Book was 
married to Anna Rodgers, who died Sept. 25, 1923, with a peculiar disease, 
which was baffling to physicians, from which the blood hardens in the veins.  
Three sons: Harry, married to Mary Jenkins, Doylesburg, Franklin Co., Pa.; 
Lehman, married to Thelma Neidigh, Perry Co., Pa., farmers; Lawrence, at 
home; one daughter, Eva, married to Bruce Burge, a trucker.  E. D. Book has 
made a success in this, his chosen work.

Note: E. D. Book is listed as Eddy Book, son of Samuel and Mary Book, in the 
1880 Huntingdon County, census.  The 1900 Huntingdon county census shows 
Edmund D. and Anna M. Book.
