DAVID S. BARD
Shirleysburg, Pa.

Merchant:  Born March 1, 1861, at Shirleysburg, Pa., and at Shirleysburg, Pa., 
received his education.  A son of William H. Bard, who died March 15, 1920, 
aged eighty-three years and one month; he was a Civil War veteran, Co. F, 47th 
Reg. Pa. Vol. Cavalry; a regimental blacksmith under Captain Huyett.  William 
H. Bard married Mary E. Nelson, who died in 1914, aged seventy-three years.  
David S. Bard was employed at the pumping station for a local oil company for 
four years; was also a woodsman, and a brakeman on the Middle Division of the 
P.R.R.  In 1920 he engaged in the mercantile business at Shirleysburg, Pa., and 
carries in stock a full line of groceries, etc.  He and his wife are members of 
the Methodist Episcopal Church and Sunday School, Shirleysburg, Pa.  He was 
previously a Sunday School superintendent.  At the present time he is a member 
of the election board; also  burgess.  A straight-out Republican.  He has three 
brothers:  Bruce Pa., married to Attie Berkstresser, a farmer, Love's Valley, 
Huntingdon Co., Pa.; Harry L., married to Gertrude Wogan, Shirleysburg, Pa., a 
blacksmith; Frank D., married to Lou Harris, Shirleysburg, Pa.  Two brothers 
are deceased:  William, aged two years, and Charles, aged twenty-one years, 
killed on the railroad at Tyrone, Pa.  David S. Bard was married to May 
McAllister, of Shirleysburg, Pa., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McAllister.
