JOHN W. ADAMS
South Huntingdon, Huntingdon Co., Pa.

Justice of the Peace; Born at Millheim, Centre County, Pa., April 9, 1865, the 
day General Lee surrendered to Grant. The Adams' are direct descendants of John 
Quincy Adams, of historical fame. J. W. Adams is a son of Wm. Black Adams, who 
owned a foundry. His father was Colonel Joseph Adams, of the State Militia, now 
called the National Guards. Wm. Adams married Elizabeth Feese; both are 
deceased. Squire John W. Adams began his schooling at Millheim, and later on 
attended Woods' Business College, Scranton, Pa. He has been a painter and 
paperhanger. Was a contractor in this line. Had a laundry at Mifflinburg, Pa. 
Has been a guard at the Reformatory for twenty-eight years, and fully 
understands prison methods. A Justice of the Peace for twenty-two years. Served 
as Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America for a number of years. Has always 
been an advocate of the enforcement of all laws and has been active in all 
civic movements. He is a Presbyterian; his wife also, when living. Both 
daughters are Presbyterians. During the World War he was a Justice of the 
Peace; he was appointed by the Government on the working Reserve Board, a body 
of officials to see that production was increased. He belongs to the P.O.S. of 
A., No. 321, Huntingdon, Pa. A charter member of the William Weand Commandery, 
a subsidiary or military branch of the P.O.S. of A., also a member of the 
Knights of Malta, Huntingdon, Pa. He has one brother, Oliver Perry Adams, 
Millheim, Pa., engaged in the restaurant business. He was married to Minnie 
Cronimiller. He has two sisters, Sadie, married to Harry Koons; Emma, Muncy, 
Pa.; Minnie, deceased, at the age of thirty years. Ella was married to J. M. 
Hoover. She is deceased. Squire Adams was married to Annie E. Hull, a daughter 
of Abram and Elizabeth Hull. She died Sept. 3, 1927. They have two daughters. 
Dora was married to R. Allison Miller, a plumber of Huntingdon, Pa.; Helen, 
Huntingdon, Pa., whose son was nine years of age July 3, 1929, in Grade School, 
Smithfield township.
