  HOWARD E. BUTZ, Huntingdon, Pa., was born near Allentown, Pa., November 30, 
1859.  After finishing the course of studies pursued in the public schools, he 
became a student at the Central Pennsylvania College, where he spent upwards of 
three years in completing his classical education.  He entered the law office of 
Jones & Schmehl, Reading, Pa., in 1880, completed his legal studies with 
Petrikin & McNeil, of Huntingdon, and was admitted to the bar April 12, 1882.  
In the summer of the same year Mr. Butz became the editor of the Huntingdon 
Globe; he afterwards purchased the paper, and is now its editor and proprietor.  
He has been an active Republican since attaining his majority.  He has been a 
delegate to State and county conventions; has frequently served friends as 
congressional, senatorial and judicial conferee, and has been since 1893 
chairman of the Republican county committee.
