At Residence of Andrew Fife Peairs, Elizabeth Tp, Allegheny Co, Pa Oct 23, 1924
"History of the Peairs Family" which was prepared by Miss Mary J. Peairs of
Pgh, Pa. None of them know anything of the whereabouts of any of the
descendants of the eleven brothers & sisters of their great grandfather Joseph
Peairs except James Allen born 1818 grandson of Mary Peairs who married James
Allen who has often visited here.
Of the succeeding generation ie the children of Joseph Peairs 1760 1807,
their great grandfather, the oldest No 27 Elisha Peairs 1785 1844 was their
grandfather. They say the next one No 28 David 1786 who married Elizabeth
McAllen of Ohio went to Muskingum Co O near Duncan Falls & had 3 children Jane,
Joseph & George.
Jane married a Crooks who after being widowed lived with her brother Joseph.
Had no issue.
Joseph married in Ohio & had some sons & a daughter Hattie who married a Mercer
but had no children.
George married in Ohio & had a son who was married.
No 29 James died unmarried & is buried at Round Hill.
No 30 Joseph married Nancy Byers from up near Brownsville, & went to Muskingum
Co, O see list of their children. Andrew F. says his daughter Martha who
married a Kelly & lived at Cambridge, O
No 31 John 1797 1887 married Mary Westbay a daughter of Henry Westbay & went to
Zanesville, O, had nine children & one of them Rev Henry R. was the father of
Miss Mary J. Peairs of Pgh. Susan J. who married McChord lived at Zanesville &
had (don't know)
David A. went to Kansas. Ask Mary J. about this family.
No 32. Allen married Mary McKinley daughter of Andrew McKinley & moved to
Zanesville, O had 2 sons & one daughter Ann Eliza who married an Atchison & had
2 daughters who were unmarried & lived in Zanesville.
No 33. William married Jane Mahon probably from Ohio. He went to Ohio & died
there. His three daughters settled on farms in Illinois P.O. Warsaw opposite
Keokuk. He went to Morgan Co, O.
No 34. Isaac 1802 married Elizabeth Davis fr Ohio & settled in Morgan Co O.
None of them ever saw any of his children but have seen him. He was a little
man & wore a wig.
No 35 Mary never married & is buried at Round Hill.
No 36 Elizabeth married John Plummer I have this record
No 37 Nancy married Wm Fulton. Think I got their record at Keokuk in Sept 1921
No 38 Susannah married John Wycoff who A.F. thinks was a brother of Isaac & of
James (the father of Adam H.) They moved to Ohio abt Zanesville. Had a lot of
children. Not well to do.
No 27 Elisha Peairs, grandfather of my three informants married Sarah Wycoff
1791 1831, who was a sister of Isaac, James & John above named & was daughter
of Jonathan Wycoff & his wife Catherine see item 8 page 511
A.F. thinks his grandfather was born here, having come here he thinks prior to
1778, the date of the organization of Round Hill Church
Joseph Peairs was born Apr 10, 1760. Miss Mary Belle says they had settled in
New Jersey & from there went to Manck [sic] Chunk Pa & after a moderate sojourn
there came to Fayette Co, Pa, so Wm Wycoff, son of Isaac Wycoff, great Uncle
said. He said the Wycoffs & Peairs came over from Holland in the same ship &
both families settled in New Jersey. They think it would be Jonathan's father
ie Jonathan Wycoff's. Married Susannah Allen born June 30, 1764. They don't
know where she was born nor her parentage .

Elisha Peairs b Sept 30, 1785 ob Feby 26, 1844 married Sarah Wycoff b Mch 6,
1791 ob Nov 11, 1831. His children were all born in a log home which stood on
this site. He built this house in 1838.
Catharine Peairs ob married Robert Cunningham. He died at Fredericksburg,
Wayne Co O. Had 8 children of whom John lives at Shrove [best guess] O, Jesse
at Mayville, O, Elmer, Valpairaiso Ind. Both buried at Fredericsburgh, O.
Jane Peairs ob married Robt Cooper Howell son of Lewellen Howell Both buried in
Elizabeth Pa Cem & have markers. Had 3 girls & 4 boys born in Elizabeth Tp.
Elisha P. living in Elizabeth Tp, farmer & Flora C. McCune widow in McKeesport
living with her daughter Grace Caughey.
Joseph Peairs b Aug 7, 1816 ob June 12, 1897 married May 1, 1845 in this Tp to
Margaret Fife born Sept 12, 1822 & died Mch 4, 1902 daughter of Andrew Fife &
his wife Sarah Robinson. Both buried at Round Hill had 9 children all born in
this house. See page 546. They were married by Rev Audley Calhoun
Susanna A. Peairs b June 22, 1822 ob July 30, 1895 died unmarried & buried at
Round Hill
John W. Peairs b June 7, 1817 ob Oct 10, 1884 married to Dinah Boyd b July 30,
1826 ob Apr 13, 195 daughter of John Boyd & wife Mary. Both buried at Round
Hill had 3 boys & 2 girls all born near Mendon Westd Co Pa only one viz Dr W.F.
Peairs Sisterville, Pa is living, see item 27 p 515.

Nancy Peairs ob married John McHenry & lived in Rostraver Tp & both buried in
West Newton Cem & have marker. Had 7 children all born in Elizabeth Tp 5
living, Frank at old home Rostraver Tp Nora married Wm Irwin. She lives in
Boston this Tp 5 children, Mary Bell married John Cunningham is widow with 3
children & lives Versailles, Pa Caroline married Andrew Budd is a widow 3
children. Jennie married Jacob Nair & live Millsboro, Pa 4 children.
Elisha Peairs ob unmarried buried at Round Hill
Sarah A. Peairs b 182 ob Mch 15, 1838 in her 13th year d.y. & is buried at
Round Hill & has a marker.
Lydia C. Peairs b Mch 22, 1830 ob Apr 4, 1912 married Thos D. Douglass & both
buried at Round Hill. Had 5 children 3 living. David P. in Elizabeth Tp,
farmer 1 child, Mary Ellen single living in McKeesport, Jane, married James B.
Bittick, both living McKeesport 5 children, Elisha P. married Elvira Weddell.
He dead & she living in McKeesport, Pa & has 2 children viz Judge Howard W.
Douglass in McKeesport & Rev Earl Douglass of Buffalo NY. Sarah. He was born
Jany 18, 1822 & died June 6, 1896 see page 518 item 54 Sept 11, 1925 Judge
Howard W. Douglass died on Aug 30, 1925 aged 44 see Mor Her of Aug 31, survived
by a widow & two sons.
