The Carnesville Herald July 17, 1943
Sam Moss, and a few months old grand-baby are dead! Woodford Roberts, 14 year old
son of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Roberts of Lavonia, is in Toccoa hospital with two legs
broken and with other injuries. Mr. Pope Moss is unconscious and other occupants
of the ill-fated car are suffering from bruises at Toccoa hospital.

From information gathered over telephone at the time of going to press the facts
are about as follows:
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Moss and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Pope Moss and baby, and Woodford
Roberts left Lavonia just before twelve o'clock Wednesday for Toccoa. At the
concrete bridge just beyond the Jeff Davis farm the car got out of control and
missed the bridge. The car was badly damaged and all the occupants were more or
less injured. The only deaths reported at this time are Mr. Sam Moss and the baby
of Mr. and Mrs. Pope Moss. The ambulance of Weldon Funeral Home was called to
Toccoa to bring the injured back to Lavonia. Mr. Weldon had not returned to
Lavonia at the time of writing this story.

Mr. Moss lived in Lavonia. His wife is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Roberts of
Lavonia. Mr. Moss had just returned from defense work at Savannah and was in
Lavonia to spend the week end with his family.

Just as we go to press we learn that Mrs. Moss died.
