The Toccoa Record, 29 Oct 1908, p. 1.

Biographical Sketches

Dr. John M. Terrell. Old Franklin county has contributed a large number of
worthy sons to many cities and towns in Georgia and throughout the country.
Some are already famous as ministers, teachers, lawyers and physicians, but
there are none who deserve more credit for the position they hold in the
estimation of the people than Dr. John H. Terrell. Quiet and unassuming in the
manner is this big-hearted, tireless worker who hails from the farm. This
sketch will treat of him as a man; one who believes more in work than in
genius.

Dr. Terrell was born on a farm near Hunters Creek church, five miles above
Carnesville, Jan. 11, 1879.

Dr. Terrell graduated at the Atlanta College of Physicians and Surgeons in
1901, and practiced four years in Franklin county. Three years ago he came to
Toccoa and former partnership with Dr. H. M. Freeman. Last year he took a
post graduate course at Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia.

The fortunes of his father's farm rested largely on his shoulders, therefore
he never had the opportunity to obtain a complete literary education. He went
to the common schools, never losing an opportunity to study and mentally equip
himself. Dr. Terrell came from a family who believed in work, and he carried
out these inherent qualities to a most marvelous extent. Virtually speaking,
he was never idle. His associates were limited for the simple reason he
didn't have the time to spare. When other boys were idle he kept busy.

Dr. Terrell is a public-spirited young man and is a great believer in Toccoa.
He is already a real estate holder and is a stockholder in some of the
enterprises here. In fraternity circles he is known as a Royal Arch Mason, an
Odd Fellow, and a Woodman.

Optimistic and thoroughly aggressive Dr. Terrell is a man whose friends say of
him, You may just watch him. All of which is very complimentary, at the same
time, very true. After a brief summary of this young man who has 20th century
ideas, it might be added that, as a man and as a citizen, Dr. Terrell is
destined to become even better known by Toccoans and the people in this
section. His unlimited capacity for work and h is optimistic mental attitude
justifies the foregoing assertion.

[The other biography on this date was of Hon. Fermor Barrett. Photos of both
men appeared in this article.]
