Biographical Sketches

William A. Stowe. Mr. Stowe was born in Franklin county, near Eastanollee,
May 19, 1873. His early experiences were on the farm. The fact is he spent
his entire career on the farm until his eldction to the office of Sheriff of
Stephens county. The only education he received was in the common schools,
which afforded very meager advantages during the years he attended them. He
is the son of Rev. W.A. Stowe, of Toccoa.

He has two brothers and six sisters. He lived on the same farm where he was
born until three years ago, when he came to Toccoa. Mr. Stwe entered the race
for Sheriff when Stephens was created, and won out over several opponents. In
the second race he was elected without opposition, which fact showed his worth
as an officer to the voters of our county. He made the third race this year
and was again elected by a handsome vote, having one opponent in the race.

Mr. Stowe was married Nov. 23, 1894, to Miss Flora Panell, of the section in
which he lived. Six children, five girls and one boy, have been born to this
family. As a father and husband he is very devoted to the home, and is
especially anxious that every comfort and advantage be thrown about this home.

He is not a terror to evil doers because he succeeds in his work without
characterizing it with that Western bull-dog style. He approaches his man
with a firm but friendly manner and rarely encounters a personal difficulty in
making an arrest. When given a warrant he seldom fails to score a success in
serving it. His record would be hard to duplicate in the State, because he is
an honest, faithful and dutiful servant of the people.

I photographed the microfilm machine screen, but the quality of the image on
the screen was very poor.]
