Peter Burton has built a new smokehouse. Thinks he will lock it, throw the
key away, and thus keep meat enough to do him.

Georgia Department of Archives and History.
The petition of Peter E. Burton respectfully showeth that Joseph J. Burton
formerly a resident of said county, but at the time of his death in the
service of the Confederate States Army near Mannassas, and died in the
hospital at Richmond on the 9th September 1861 - said deceased
was the son of your petitioner, and at the time of his death under the age
of twenty-one years; and at the time of his death entirely intestate as
your petitioner believes and herein avers said deceased has an estate
worth about fifty dollars. Your petitioner further showeth that an account
of the length of time required by law to advertise for permanent letters of
administration and the circumstances of said Joseph J. Burton's estate is
such that loss might accure and happen unless temporary letters of
administration is granted immediately on said deceased estate and
your petitioner will ever pray. Signed: P.E. Burton 18 Jan 1862
