White/Freeman Bible, Newnan, Coweta Co., GA 
 
Letter from Ettie Tidwell McCall (Mrs. Howard H. McCall, Sr.)  Atlanta  to  
NSDAR Registrar General in regards to a DAR Membership Application submitted  
by Virginia Freeman Jacobs Eden of Atlanta; Stamped by DAR May 28, 1953.  
Letter located in Loose DAR file of Thomas White b. 1745 at DAR Library,  
Washington, D.C. Transcribed by Robert C. Johnston, Jr. on May 25, 2003. 
 
(Note: Though the said bible record matches the dates found on tombstones in  
Newnan, GA, the Genealogical information on Thomas White, father of Henry  
White, is not correct and was confused with another person of the like name in  
the same county at the same time frame. Please verify and properly document  
all the information about Thomas White, Rev War Soldier, before sending to DAR

From statement made by Mrs. Virginia Eloise (Freeman) Jacobs, widow of Edwin  
Gustavus Jacobs, of 318 Vineville Ave, Macon Ga. And now living in the old  
Freeman home in Newnan, Ga. (letter) 
That the Family Bible was in the possioner of her sister, Annie (Freeman)  
Orr, (Mrs. Sylvanus? G. Orr of Newnan, Ga.) after her parents death, and that  
she copied the following records from this Bible; which was the Family Bible  
of her grandparents, Samuel Freeman and his wife, Sarah Ann Virginia White. 
Henry White was born in Orange Co., Va. 20th Day of April 1778, died Sept. 16  
 1842 in Elbert Co., Ga. (He was my g-grandfather.) 
Mary Streshley Starke was born in Hanover Co., Va. 30th Day of April 1779,  
died July 12, 1851 Newnan, Ga. 
Henry White and Mary S. Starke were married in Hanover Co., Va. Feb. 28, 1805. 
My grand-parents recorded in Bible: 
Sarah Ann Virginia White was born Aug. 1  1815 Elbert Co., Ga.; died Newnan,  
Ga May 29, 1889 
Samuel Freeman, Jr. was born Schenectady New York, died Feb. 4, 1891 Newnan,  
Ga.

Samuel Freeman Jr. and Sarah Ann Virginia White were married in Elbert Co.,  
Ga. Sept. 21-1837. 
My Parents  
Alvan Dean Freeman was born Mar. 15, 1842 at Carnesville, Ga., died Newnan,  
Ga. Oct. 11-1917. 
Eloise Clinton Hall was born Frankfort, Ky., died Newnan, Ga. June 14, 1841,  
died Newnan, Ga. Mar. 16  1889. 
Alvan Dean Freeman and Eloise Clinton Hall were married Oct. 28, 1869. 
Also in letter from: 
Miss Dora Freeman, of Greenville, Ga. Stating the same record as above  and  
copied from the same Family Bible also in possession of her first cousin Annie  
Freeman Orr. (who was the family genealogist and all the family went to her  
for information). 
Also that all the family were buried in the City Cemetery of Newnan and had  
handsome monuments, with the dates as in the Bible recorded on tomb- 
stones. My father who was a brother of alvan Dean Freeman moved to Moreland,  
Ga. A few miles from Newnan, in Meriweather Co., Ga. Where I have lived since  
child-hood.

In an article of Van's Creek Church by Mrs. Z.? W. Copeland of Elberton, the  
names of Thomas White and his wife Sally White appear as members. This Van's  
(Van Creek Church was the second Baptist Church organized in Ga., with Rev.  
Dozier Thorton, Organizer and first Pastor. 
I certify that these two letters contained the correct records found in the  
Family Bible, then in the possession of Annie Freeman Orr, dau of Alvan Dean  
Freeman of Newnan, Ga. By Mrs. Virginia Eloise Freeman, as 1st generation in  
Mrs. Eden's papers, and her first cousin Miss Dora Freeman of Greenville, Ga.  
For Bible and tombstone records given in Mrs. Eden's application for D.A.R.  
Membership, for Generations 2-3- and 4.
