in LaGrange, Ga., on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, following a long illness.
She had been a resident of Poplar Creek for more than two years and had only
recently been transferred to Brian Center when her medical condition worsened.
Mrs. Bryant was born Katheryn Larue Coker in Roanoke on Oct. 7, 1915. She was
the daughter of Abner Coker and Coral Carlisle Coker. Upon the early death of
her father, Mrs., Bryant, as a young girl, moved to LaGrange with her mother
and her brothers, William A. Coker and Earl K. Coker, all of whom are now
deceased. Mrs. Bryant was married to the late G. Emerson "Prof' Bryant of
LaGrange. They resided on Park Avenue, where Mrs. Bryant remained until her
mother's death in 1983. The Bryants were active members of the First Baptist
Church on the Square. An inveterate reader, Mrs. Bryant especially studied the
Bible and often spoke of how many times she had read the entire scriptures. Her
other primary interest was their lake property off Prof Bryant Road. If the
place is a virtual paradise, she made it so; she spent untold hours planting
and tending azaleas and dogwood trees and the lesser flowers that adorn the
springtime woods. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Bryant lived most of her
remaining years in her secluded cabin, there on Bryant Lake. Mrs. Bryant had no
children of her own, but shared with Mr. Bryant visits with his children and
grandchildren from a former marriage. In later years, she took up the thread of
the lives of her personal kin and was loved and admired by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. EDT in the Ida Cason
Callaway Memorial Chapel of First Baptist Church on the Square. The Rev. Dr.
Paul Baxter officiated. Interment followed in the Cedarwood Cemetery in
