Stanley Yarbrough and the Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery. Mrs. Prescott died Monday, July 3, at her home. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Nadine Prescott of Roanoke; two grandchildren; one sister, Josie Mae Norred of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Prescott was born March 25, 1913, daughter of Billy and Josievein Yarbrough Towler. She was a member of Bethany Lime Christian Church and had been a textile spinner for Handley Mills and Wehadkee Yarns. Mrs. Prescott was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Prescott; her parents; one son, Billy J. Prescott; and 11 brothers and sisters. Funeral services were Friday, June 30, at 4 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. George Collins officiating. Burial followed in Fairfax Cemetery. Mrs. Edmondson is survived by two children, Nelda Harry of LaGrange and Tony Edmondson of Lanett; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Olin Lee Anglin and John Phillip Anglin of Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford Edmondson; three children, Michael Jean Edmondson, Larry Winford Edmondson and Leonard Dean Edmondson; two sisters, Glenda Anglin Yarbrough and Hazel Anglin Barker; and three brothers, James Walter Anglin Jr., Otis Leon Anglin and George Cornelius "Neal" Anglin. Mrs. Edmondson was born in the Stroud community of Chambers County on April 11, 1926. She was raised on a farm in Standing Rock and lived all by [but] 16 years in Chambers County. For 16 years, she lived in LaGrange. After retiring from West Point Stevens' Shawmut Mill, Mrs. Edmondson was an avid homemaker. She loved sewing and gardening. Mrs. Edmondson created hundreds of artistic quilts and enjoyed preparing meals with her homegrown vegetables. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Mr. Banzet was born May 5, 1940, in Herndon, Kansas. He had worked as a machinist for Beech Aircraft in Wichita. He was a frequent contributor of editorial commentary to the newspaper and loved writing stories, poetry, songs and articles. He donated his body to science (UAB) to help further research into heart and kidney diseases. Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke. __________ Joseph Alexander Brittain (ATLANTA) Joseph Alexander Brittain, 65, died July 21, 2006, at his home in midtown Atlanta after an eight-month battle with leukemia. A teacher who was passionate about literature and the arts: a civil servant who was passionate about equal rights and equal opportunities; an outdoorsman who loved hiking and exploring our country, particularly the Four Corners area in the West; and a passionate advocate for the environment, Joe was also an athlete who continued to love football, basketball and soccer; and a music lover whose passion for country music was equaled by his love for string quartets. Joe was born in 1940 and raised in Roanoke, where he was an outstanding high school student and all-state in both basketball and football. He earned a B.A. in English literature from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., where he was a member of the football team. After receiving his M.A. at Northwestern University, Joe taught English literature at Emory at Oxford, Ga. Mr. Brittain had worked for the U.S. Office of Equal Opportunity on civil rights and economic empowerment issues and for the U.S. Regional Director's Office of Health, Education and Welfare. One interesting assignment during this time was working on the Haitian refugee crisis in Miami. His last, job before retiring was in oommunications with the 3rd Army at Ft. MacPherson. After retiring, he taught at Perimeter College, volunteered for several Democratic campaigns and with the homeless at Crossroads Atlanta. He also taught at Evening at Emory and the Emory Center for Continuing Education and led a contemporary poetry group until his illness. Other interests included fishing, camping, gardening, cooking, repairing antiques for his wife's business, traveling and helping coach his son's soccer teams. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nancy Awbrey Brittain; his daughter, Ellie Langsam of Charleston, S.C.; his son, Michael Brittain of Atlanta; four grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. James M. Brittain of Charlotte, N.C., and William H. Brittain of Montgomery; and many other relatives and friends. Tim Craft and the Rev. Eugene Robinson officiating. Burial was in Valley Grove Church Cemetery. Mr. Wortham died Thursday, July 20, at Wedowee Hospital. Mr. Wortham is survived by his wife, Zelma Stitcher Wortham of Wedowee; three sons, Jacky Lee Wortham, Bryant Wayne Wortham and Sherman Eugene Wortham all of Wedowee; five grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Lois Shears of Oxford and Trudy Barron of Roswell, Ga.; two brothers, Finis Wortham of Bowdon, Ga., and Chester Wortham of Wedowee. Pallbearers were Toby Stitcher, Allen Stitcher, Nathan Wortham, Reed Wortham, Sam Gross and Dale Holloway. Mr. Wortham was born Oct. 23, 1923, the son of John W. and Annie Thrasher Wortham. He was a member of the Iduma Congregational Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, had been employed by West Point Pepperell, and was a self-employed farmer. Survivors include her caregiver, Dora Mae Elswick of Roanoke; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Cofield was born April 12, 1924, daughter of Hiram and Hattie Jane Kirby. Butler, 75, of Ashland were Friday, July 21, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland. Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke. Mr. Butler died Tuesday, July 18, at Clay County Hospital. He was a native of Cleburne County, but had lived in Clay County since 1968. Mr. Butler was an electrician and mechanic. He and his wife, Joyce, loved southern gospel music and performed together for several years in the surrounding areas. He is survived by his wife, Joyce S. Butler of Ashland; two daughters, Patricia Collum of Dadeville and Glenis Payne of Douglasville, Ga.; a sister, Oren Weisner of Bowdon, Ga.; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim McVey; and parents, Thomas and Emily Butler. Pallbearers were Andrew Collum, Joshua Collum, Brian Payne and Matthew Hawkins. Earl Sefton "Mac" McGilvray Jr., who was born Nov 1, 1937, in Roanoke, son of the late Earl S. and Mary Kate Webb McGilvray, died at 9:35 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2006, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange. He graduated from Columbus High and Marion Military Institute before finishing at Auburn University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve until honorably discharged in 1964. He was appointed lieutenant colonel of the Alabama State Militia and Lt. Col. Aide de Camp to Georgia Gov. Jimmy Carter. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus. In his youth, he was a member of the Order of DeMolay and Boy Scouts of America, the latter organization he continued to serve as an adult and from whom he was awarded several honors, including the District Award of Merit, Order of the Arrow-Vigil Member and their highest honor, the Silver Beaver. He moved to LaGrange in 1979 as manager of the brand new Kirven's Department Store when West Georgia Commons Mall opened. He was formerly a member of the Rotary Club of LaGrange and later became co-owner and manger of the Georgian Manor. He built and operated the Pine Mountain Trading Company in Pine Mountain and later operated a successful antiques dealership. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, serving at the time of his death as treasurer of the LaGrange chapter, of which he was a founding member. He had been secretary-treasurer of the local chapter and served previously as president of the Chattahoochee River and McIntosh chapters, as well as Georgia State Society secretary. He was a founding member and former tanist of the Order of the Tartan, a Scottish heritage society, as well as a member of Clan MacGillivray. He was honored as a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland in Edinburgh. He was a member of the West Georgia Genealogical Society. He was a scion of several ancient Troup County families, including the Webbs, who helped found West Point, and the Tatoms. He was an Indian enthusiast and collector, who often gave demonstrations and lectures to school groups on Indian culture. He was also a founding member and former officer of First Families of Georgia, Continental Society of Sons and Indian Wars, Noble Order Descendants of Saints and Martyrs, Sons of Confederate Veterans and National Society of Sons of American Colonists. He is survived by his wife, Marge Buck McGilvray, who he married Dec. 28, 1958; two sons, Earl S. "Trip" McGilvray III and Charles S. "Chuck" McGilvray; two godsons; three aunts; and two nieces. A memorial service was at 3 p.m. EDT Thursday, July 20, in the Hunter-Allen- Myhand Chapel with the Rev. William McLemore, chaplain of the Order of the Tartan, presiding.
