OBITUARIES:

Edna Earl Waldrep

   (ROANOKE) Services for Edna Earl Waldrep of Roan[o]ke, 93, will be 
Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the 
Rev. Stanley Yarbrough officiating.  Burial will follow at Rock Springs 
Christian Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Waldrep died Sunday, Jan. 2, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   Survivors include one daughter, Joann Kirby of Roanoke; one son, Donald 
Waldrep of St. Pauls, N.C.; one brother, Mitchell Waldrep of Roanoke; five 
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Bud Jackson, Kent Wilson, Jonathan Caldwell, Daniel 
Bozeman, Tim Jackson and Ronald White.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Waldrep was born March 24, 1911, daughter of 
George W. and Susan E. Whaley Waldrep. She was a member of Rock Springs 
Christian Church, a former employee of Handley Mills and Frame-Away, and was 
well known as a local artist.

Bertha Elizabeth Bolt

   (HEFLIN) Services for Bertha Elizabeth Bolt, 60, of Heflin will be 
Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. 
Charlie Bolt officiating.  Burial will be at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Bolt died Monday, Jan. 3, at her home.
   Survivors include four daughters, Roxie Muse and Juanita Glagola of Villa 
Rice, Ga., Janet Holland of Heflin and Mary Merritts of Douglasville, Ga.; two 
sons, Robert Grover Bolt II of Villa Rica and James Allen Bolt of Carrollton, 
Ga.; a brother, Arthur Robert Swords of Heflin; and 18 grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Timothy Muse, Jonathan Muse, Nick Dickerson, Billy 
Glagola II and T. J. Holland, grandsons of Mrs. Bolt, and Robert Swords, nephew.
   Mrs. Bolt was a St. Petersburg, Fla., native, born July 22, 1944, daughter 
of Harvey Clark and Elsie J. Swords.  She was Baptist by faith and was self-
employed as a contract cleaning professional.  She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Robert Grover Bolt.

Jerry Wayne Butler

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Services for Jerry Wayne Butler, 41, of LaGrange, Ga., 
formerly of Roanoke, will be Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum 
Funeral Chapel, Roanoke, with the Revs. Tim Whaley, Theo Arnett and Jamie 
Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on 
Wednesday.
   Mr. Butler died Monday, Jan. 3, at University Hospital-Birmingham following 
a two-year bout with leukemia.
   Survivors include his mother, Doris Butler of Roanoke; three sisters, Glenda 
Rogers of Woodland and Cathy Windsor and Lisa Taylor of Roanoke; one brother, 
Jimmy Butler of Roopville, Ga.; his fiance, Rhonda Smith of LaGrange; and seven 
nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers will be Mike Bible, Eddy Perry, Donald Woodyard, Don Turner, 
Ricky White, Tim Harper, David Harper, Chris McCarley and Richard Autrey.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Butler was born July 27, 1963, son of James 
Fred and Doris McKee Butler.  He was a member of Southwest LaGrange Baptist 
Church and had been employed with West Point Stevens.

Lala Edge Allen

   (UNION HILL) Lala Edge Allen, 96, of Union Hill died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at 
LaFayette Extended Care Facility.  Services will be at Pleasant Grove Christian 
Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, with interment in the church cemetery.
   The Rev. Barry Brooks and the Rev. Floyd Carmack will officiate.
   Mrs. Allen is survived by a host of special nieces, nephews, relatives and 
friends.
   Mrs. Allen was born in Chambers County April 28, 1908.  She graduated from 
Auburn University in 1950 and taught in the Chambers County school system for 
45 years.  She was the founder of the Allen Retreat Center in Penton and was 
inducted into the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.  She was a member of 
Delta Kappa Gamma International Society, past president of the Retired Teachers 
Association, and a member of the Inter Se Women's Federation in Wadley.  She 
helped establish P.A.L.S. in Chambers County.  She was a member of the Greater 
Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, Union Hill Community Club, Union Hill Fire 
Department, and Pleasant Grove Christian Church.  She was preceded in death by 
her husband, J. Emory Allen.

Floyd Ray Goodwin

   (PIEDMONT) Services for Floyd Ray Goodwin, 66, of Piedmont, were at 2 p.m. 
Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Center chapel 
with the Rev. T.R. Harper officiating.  Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in 
Piedmont.
   Mr. Goodwin died Sunday, Jan. 2, at Jacksonville Medical Center.
   Survivors include his wife, Ona Lee Goodwin; a daughter, Rebecca Goodwin 
Pruitt of Weaver; two sons, Tony R. Goodwin of Anniston and Robert C. Goodwin 
of Wedowee; two brothers, Alton Goodwin of Jonesboro, Ga., and Kenneth Goodwin 
of Anniston; four sisters, Mildred Buford and Doris Woodard of Anniston, Irma 
Laney of Ohatchee, and Barbara Ramsay of Jacksonville; and a grandson.
   Pallbearers were Mike Lanie, Cliff Goodwin, Lee Lane, Carl Cochran, Daniel 
Putnam and Randy Martin.
   Mr. Goodwin, a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County, was a member 
of Faith Temple.  He was devoted to his family and spent the last eight years 
of his life dedicated to his grandson, Austin.

Wilma Stewart Nelson

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Wilma Stewart Nelson, 78, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, 
Jan. 1, 2005, at Florence Hand home, after several years of declining health.
   Mrs. Nelson was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Randolph County, Ala., daughter of 
the late James Vinson and Clyde Hinton Stewart.  Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker 
and a member of Teaver Road Baptist Church and a former member of Hillside 
Congregational Christian Church, where she was very active.
   Survivors include two daughters, Jan Reason and Regina Dollar; a son, Randy 
Nelson; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of LaGrange; two 
sisters, Vicie Jordan of Roanoke and Jewel Harwell of Birmingham; two brothers, 
Jack Stewart of Opelika and Winston Stewart of Wedowee; and numerous nieces and 
nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Ray Nelson; a 
brother, Walter Stewart; and two sisters, Mary Daniel and Lora Dobson.
   Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at Restlawn Memory 
Gardens with the Rev. Don Ellison officiating.

Ellie Ruth Rushing

   (WOODLAND) Services for Ellie Ruth Rushing, 74, of Woodland were Saturday, 
Jan. 1, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Horace 
Harper and the Rev. Keith Benefield officiating.  Burial was at Highway 
Congregational Methodist Church cemetery.
   Mrs. Rushing died Thursday, Dec. 30, at her home.
   Survivors include four daughters, Nita Starnes of Glenn, Ga., Teresa 
Crockett and Samantha Burke of Woodland, and Pam Halsey of Rock Mills; two 
sons, Mike Rushing of Woodland and Tim Rushing of Rock Mills; two sisters, 
Margaret Burke and Lois Wilson of Woodland; one brother, Herman W. Burke of 
Roanoke; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Larry Wilson, Edward Barrett, Ervin Barrett, Nicky Burke, 
Benny Burke and Donnie Owens.
   Mrs. Rushing was born March 14, 1930, daughter of Jay Hugh and Talitha Lipp 
Burke.  She was of the Holiness faith, and worked as a textile spinner at 
Wehadkee and Handley Mills.  Mrs. Rushing was preceded in death by her husband, 
Rayford Bonnie Rushing.

E.G. Clark Sr.

   (ROANOKE) Services for the Rev. E.G. Clark Sr., 84, of Roanoke were Monday, 
Jan. 3, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Stanley 
Yarbrough, S. T. Janney and Carl Partian officiating.  Burial was in Cedarwood 
Cemetery.
   Rev. Clark died Saturday, Jan. 1, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include one son, Garfield Clark of Roanoke; two sisters, Vera 
Brown and Iva Lee Clark of Roanoke; three grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Jeffery Clark, Cody Clark, Richard Payne, Ronald Clark, 
Ronnie Clark, Russell Clark and Pete Brown.
   A Randolph County native, Rev. Clark was born Aug. 15, 1920, son of Thomas 
Edward and Connie Mae Florence Clark.  He was a member of Rock Springs 
Christian Church and served as pastor of several churches in Randolph County.  
Rev. Clark was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Dell Brown Clark.

Nora Magnolia Clegg Hart

   (STEPHENVILLE, Texas) Memorial services for Nora Magnolia Clegg Hart, 92, of 
Stephenville, Texas, formerly of Randolph County, will be held at a later date 
at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wadley.
   Mrs. Hart died Jan. 1, 2005, at Canterbury Villa Nursing Home in 
Stephenville.
   Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Cash of Dublin, Texas; a son, Ross Hart 
of Ft. Worth, Texas; a brother, Thomas F. Clegg of Wecomico Church, Va.; five 
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Hart was a Wadley native, born Oct. 20, 1912, daughter of Kentchen 
Marvin and Betty Pauline Thomason Clegg.  She was the oldest of seven children 
with six younger brothers.  She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp during World 
War II and was Methodist by faith.

William Winfred Ward

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) William Winfred Ward, 81, of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, 
Dec. 27, 2004, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mr. Ward was born March 4, 1923, in Roanoke, son of John Will and Myrtle Lee 
Brown Ward.  He had lived in the LaGrange area most of his life and served in 
the U.S. Navy.  Mr. Ward was retired from Troup County EMC (later known as 
Diverse Power) with more than 27 years of service and was a member of Union 
Lodge 28 F&AM.  He was a member of East Vernon Baptist Church, where he taught 
Sunday school, served as Sunday school superintendent and served in many other 
official capacities.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie McDonald; 
and a brother, Melvin Corky Ward.
   Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Para "Tiny" Ward; and nieces Jackie 
Ward Taylor of LaGrange and Janice McDonald Underwood of Jonesboro, Ga.
   Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Striffler-
Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Don Ellison officiating.  Burial will follow in 
Randolph Memory Gardens.

James E. 'Jimmy' Childers

   (CRAGFORD) Services for James E. "Jimmy" Childers, 56, of Cragford, were at 
2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Ashland 
with the Rev. Braden Morrison and Wendell McLain officiating.  Burial with full 
military honors was in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Clay County.
   Mr. Childers died Friday, Jan. 31, 2004, at VA Hospital in Birmingham.
   Survivors include his wife, Sonja Childers; two daughters, Tina Hannah and 
Lori Starnes of Franklin, Ga.; a sister, Joyce Andrews of LaGrange, Ga.; and 
seven grandchildren.
   Mr. Childers, a Randolph County native, lived in Germany and Washington 
before returning to Clay County in 1992.  He was employed with Wellborn Cabinet 
Company.  He served in the Army for 17 years, including Desert Storm.  He was 
awarded many decorations and medals for his service, including the Bronze Star.

Flossie White

   (HUGULEY) Flossie White, 96, of Huguley died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at her 
residence.
   Mrs. White was a native of Randolph County, born Nov 28, 1908, daughter of 
the late Bill and Lavora Burson.  She was a retired employee of West Point 
Stevens Shawmut Mill and a member of Calvary	Baptist Church in Huguley.
   Surviving are two daughters, Jean Boyington and Gerry Meacham of Huguley; 
one son, King D. White of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a sister, Novella Cardwell 
of West Point, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and six great-
great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert White.	
   Services will be at Calvary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. EST on Thursday, Jan. 
6, with burial in	Resthaven Cemetery.  Dr. Kenneth Overby will officiate.
   Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice.  
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. EST at 
Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Charles Richard Jones Sr.

   (WADLEY) Services for Charles Richard Jones Sr., 65, of Wadley were 
Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the 
Rev. Tim Craft and the Rev. Steven Brasington officiating.  Burial was in the 
adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Jones died Tuesday, Dec. 28, at his home.
   Survivors include his wife, Sara Nolen Jones of Wadley; two sons, Charles 
Richard Jones Jr. and Timothy Brandon Jones of Wadley; his mother, Iva Lee 
Jones of Wadley; one brother, Jimmy Jones of Wadley; and two grandchildren.
   Mr. Jones was born July 18, 1939, son of L. Z. and Iva Lee Waldrep Jones.  
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Roanoke Masonic Lodge #132, 
had served in the National Guard and worked in the weave room of Amoco Fabrics 
and Fibers Company's Roanoke Mills.

Sue Wilson Ashcraft

   (MONTGOMERY) Graveside services for Sue Wilson Ashcraft, 82, of Montgomery, 
formerly of Roanoke, were Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Randolph Memory 
Gardens, with the Rev. Bill Dean officiating.
   Mrs. Ashcraft died Thursday, Dec. 30, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.
   Survivors include a host of cousins.
   Mrs. Ashcraft was born Nov 7, ,1922, daughter of Wyatt Ross and Earlie 
Conaway Wilson.  She was Baptist by faith and a retired computer systems 
analyst for the Department of Defense.  She was preceded in death by her 
parents and one daughter, Carolyn Mullery.

Jimmy E. Stewart Sr.

   (OHATCHEE) Services for Jimmy E. Stewart Sr., 64, of Ohatchee were at 1 p.m. 
Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Miller Funeral Home in Oxford.  Burial was in 
Edgemont Cemetery.
   Mr. Stewart died Monday, Dec. 27, at his home.
   Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Bullock of Eastaboga; a son, Jimmy E. 
Stewart Jr. of Anniston; a brother, Joel Stewart of Wedowee; a sister, Margaret 
Gaye of Jacksonville; two stepbrothers, Wayne Stewart and Barry Stewart of 
Texas; three stepsisters, Gail Stewart, Faye Stewart and Ameilla Stewart, all 
of Texas; and three grandchildren.
   Mr. Stewart, a Woodland native, had lived in Ohatchee the past 14 years.  He 
was preceded in death by his wife, Leta Stewart.

Robert Andrew Jordan

   (RANBURNE) Services for Robert Andrew Jordan, 73, of Ranburne were at 2 p.m. 
Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Crumbley's Chapel Church of God with the Revs. Harlan 
Noles, Kenneth Howle, Tony Mahathy and W. H. Ford officiating.  Burial was in 
the church cemetery.
   Mr. Jordan died Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, 
Ga.
   Survivors include his wife, June Gay Jordan; a daughter, Robbie Webb of 
Ranburne; and two grandsons.
   Pallbearers were Clarence Noles Jr., Jonathon Noles, Allen Crosson, Dorsey 
Crosson, Dewayne Noles and Tommy Taylor.
   Mr. Jordan, a Randolph County native, was a member of Crumley's Chapel 
Church of God.  A Korean Conflict Army veteran, he retired from Sony's shipping 
department.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Jordan; and a sister, 
Dorothy Word.

Beulah Lee Bass

   (HEFLIN) Services for Beulah Lee Bass, 72, of Heflin, were at 2:30 p.m.

Raymond Angel officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Bass died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at her home in Heflin.
   Survivors include two sons, Orvelt Bass and Stanley Bass of Heflin; and a 
brother, Clarence Jairrels.
   Pallbearers were her nephews and cousins.
   Mrs. Bass was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Bass; and her 
parents, William and Lizzie Jairrels.

Sarah Mostellar Kearbey

   (ROLLA, Mo.) Services for Sarah Mostellar Kearbey, 65, of Rolla, Mo., were 
1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, 
Mo., with the Rev. Devon Black officiating.  Burial was in the Kearbey Chapel 
Cemetery in Butler County, Mo.
   Mrs. Kearbey died, Saturday, Jan. 1, at the Rolla Manor Care Center.
   Survivors include her husband, Jackie O. Kearbey Sr.; a daughter, Olivia 
Wiggins of Highlandville, Mo.; a son, Jackie O. Kearbey Jr. of St. James, Mo.; 
her mother, Kathryn Mostellar of Wedowee; two sisters, Emily Lovvorn of 
LaGrange, Ga., and Marian Smith of Fairfax, Va.; a brother, Murphy Mostellar 
Jr. of Birmingham; and four grandchildren.
   Mrs. Kearbey, a Roanoke native, was a longtime member of Bethel Chapel in 
Butler County.  She retired from the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in 
Poplar Bluff with 23 years service as a secretary.  She was a member of Poplar 
Bluff Chapter 344 of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was preceded in death 
by her father, James Murphy Mostellar Sr.
   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bethel Chapel Stained 
Glass Window Fund.

Gladys Simpson Traylor

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Gladys Simpson Traylor, 94, of Wedowee will be 
Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Wedowee, 
with the Rev. Harris Hand and the Rev. Gary Henderson officiating.  Mrs. 
Traylor will lie in state one hour before the service at the church.  Burial 
will follow in Pine Hill Christian Church Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Benefield 
Funeral Home.
   Mrs. Traylor died Sunday, Jan. 9, at Lineville Nursing Facility.
   Pallbearers will be Tim Iverson, J. R. Traylor, Roger Hammett, Jackie 
Whaley, Junior McCain and Robert Eason Jr.  Honorary pallbearers will be Huland 
Humphries, Grady Wakefield, Gene Grant, Benny Camp, Jerry Brazeal and Bob Perry.
   Mrs. Traylor is survived by one daughter, Betty Williamson of Marietta, Ga.; 
two sons, Sam Traylor of Odell, Calif., and Bill Traylor of Wedowee; six 
grandchildren; one brother, Bud Simpson of Bowdon, Ga.; and nine great-
grandchildren.
   A native of Randolph County, Mrs. Traylor was born June 18, 1910, daughter 
of Jim and Mattie Traylor Simpson.  She was a member of First United Methodist 
Church of Wedowee, a retired truant officer for the Randolph County Board of 
Education, manager of the Senior Citizen Center, member of the Wedowee Senior 
Citizens Garden Club, Wedowee Garden Club and United Methodist Church Women's 
Night Circle.  Mrs. Traylor was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. 
Traylor, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Inez Fuller Henry

   (BARFIELD) Services for Inez Fuller Henry, 85, of Barfield will be at 11 
a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Barfield Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne A. 
Stevens officiating.  Eulogists will be John Lovell, Susan Nelson, Susan Wales, 
Mary Waggle, Jimmie Adamson and Kay Hudson.  Burial will follow in the church 
cemetery.
   Mrs. Henry died Thursday, Jan. 6, at Knox Village Care Center in Lee's 
Summit, Mo.  She was born Dec. 8, 1919, at Barfield.  On Feb. 1, 1948, she 
married William (Bill) Hiram Henry and they made their home in Roanoke.
   Survivors include a daughter, Susan Henry Lovell of Lee's Summit; two 
sisters, Clare Faye Allen of Lineville and Mary Waggle of Atlanta; a sister-in-
law; a granddaughter; a grandson; two great-grandchildren, and nine nieces and 
nephews.
   Pallbearers will be Gary Nelson, Junior Huey, Jimmy Peek, Spec Bonner, 
Dwight Baker, Jerry Baker, Jeff Fuller and Gerald Mathews.  Honorary 
pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Henry held several positions before retiring; working as a hair stylist 
in Roanoke, a purchaser and saleswoman for Mansour's department store in 
LaGrange, Ga., a salesperson at Fort McClellan's post exchange and district 
supervisor for Green Thumb of central Alabama.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill Hiram Henry; her 
parents, Bertha and Exodus Fuller; two sisters, Fannie Mae Hendrix and Annie 
Gay Cargile; a brother, James Fuller; and a nephew.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Lee's Summit United Methodist Church,

   Mr. Harrison died Sunday, Dec. 26, at his residence.

   Mrs. Pitts, a Randolph County native and former Anniston resident who lived

was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church North.  She was preceded in death by 
her husband, John M. Pitts Sr.; three sons, Jesse Pitts, John Pitts Jr. and 
Willis Hill; her parents, Reuben and Loucinda Nix Hill; two grandsons, Tommy 
Ginn and Jesse Pitts Jr.; seven brothers, one sister and one great-
granddaughter.

   Mrs. Adams died Friday, Jan. 7, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Adams of Anniston; six sisters, Eunice Adamson, Reba Horn and Annie Latham, all 
of Lineville, Ozeal Smith and Margaret Turner of Heflin and Dot Carmack of 
Talladega; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

   Mrs. Adams, a Randolph County native and longtime Clay County resident, was 
a member of Campbell Springs Church of Christ.  She had been employed at the 
Clay County Hospital for more than 48 years as a nurse's aide.

   Mrs. Dalrymple died Monday, Jan. 10, at Russell Medical Center, Alexander

   Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Raymond of Dadeville and Katherene 
D. House of Forest Park, Ga.; one brother, William Hendley of Roanoke; three 
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Dalrymple was born Sept. 25, 1920, daughter

Church in Montgomery and a retired textile weaver for Handley Mills.  Mrs. 
Dalrymple was preceded in death by her husband, Varnell Dalrymple.

   (LANETT) Roby L. Allen, 86, of Lanett died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at

   Mr. Allen is survived by four daughters, Cindy Bartlett and Jo Ann Terrell 
of LaGrange, Ga., Norma Jean Hill of Beulah and Patricia Vickers of Woodbury, 
Tenn.; one son, Roby Wayne Allen of Roanoke; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-
grandchildren.
   Born in Chambers County on July 18, 1918, Mr. Allen was the son of the late 
J. D. Allen and Nannie Coggins Allen.  He was a former employee of WestPoint 
Pepperell's Lanett Mill.  He loved to go fishing.  Mr. Allen was of the 
Methodist faith.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred B. Allen.

   Born Nov. 8, 1932, in Chambers County, Ms. Trammell was a long-time resident 
of Randolph County.  She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, 
LaFayette.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolphus and Mary Bell 
Trammell Sr., and one brother, Calvin L. Trammell Sr.
   Surviving are two daughters, Sara Trammell and Linda Patterson, of Roanoke; 
two sisters, Bernice Trammell and Dora Hildreth, of Elyria, Ohio; five

   Mrs. Williamson was a native of Penns Grove, N.J., and had lived in Alabama

was preceded in death by her husband, Verdis Bill Williamson Sr.; a grandson,

Robert Donald Phillips

   (ROANOKE) Robert Donald Phillips, 63, of 195 Circle Drive, Roanoke, died of 
cardiac arrest on Friday, Dec. 24, 2004 at his home.
   Mr. Phillips was born May 16, 1941.  He was a painter.
   Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his father, Wilber Phillips.  
Survivors include one son, Richard Reese; a special friend, Barbara Akins; his 
mother, Mildred Phillips; three brothers, Clifton Phillips of Dadeville, Sidney 
Phillips of Tuskegee and James Phillips of Opelika; two sisters, Bonnie Colley

Mary S. George

   (FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla.) Mary S. George, 94, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., 
widow of the late Brig. Gen. L. George (U.S.A.F.), died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, 
at Baptist Medical Center-Nassau.
   A native of Upper Marlboro, Md., she was the daughter of the late Reverdy 
and Mary Dixon Beale Sasscer.  She and her husband spent most of their lives in 
East Point, Ga., and Coral Gables, Fla., relocating to Amelia Island, Fla., in 
1980.
   Mrs. George is survived by a son, Joseph S. George of Wedowee; three 
daughters, Mary Derryberry of Martinez, Ga., Margaret Barre of Seneca, S.C., 
and Penelope Robinson of Fernandina Beach; five grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren.
   A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 10, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church 
in Fernandina Beach, with interment at a later date in Arlington National 
Cemetery next to her late husband.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made 
in Mrs. George's name to the American Heart Assocation [Association], 7272 
Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.

   (ROANOKE) Ramonia M. Drake, 74, of Roanoke died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at her 
residence.
   Services were Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Canaan Missionary 
Baptist Church, Welch, with the Rev. Melvin Owens officiating.  Interment was 
in the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Drake was a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Welch.  Her 
life was a portrait of service.  She served as secretary for the Sunday school, 
secretary and president of Matrons, president of Women's Missionary Society and 
a member of the choir.  Her Christian walk extended from the local church to 
the district level.  She served as the secretary and president of the Women's 
Aid, secretary of the East Alabama Sunday school, secretary of Old Ship of Zion 
and secretary of the East Alabama Singing Convention.  She was a member of 
Order of Eastern Star, Lily White Chapter #352.
   Mrs. Drake retired from Terry Manufacturing Company, Roanoke, with over 30 
years of service.
   Surviving are a devoted husband of 53 years, Wilmer R. Drake of Roanoke; two 
sons, Sanders Drake of Roanoke and Frederick Drake of East Point, Ga.; one 
daughter, SFC Reta M. Drake of Ft. Stewart, Hinesville, Ga.; two brothers, 
Raymond Morgan of Atlanta and Thomas Morgan of Five Points; two sisters, Rosa 
Ferguson of Moreno, Calif., and Julia Adamson of Roanoke; three grandchildren; 
one great-granddaughter; a dear friend, Julia Hoggs; and many other relatives 
and friends.

Billy H. Hinton

   (VALLEY) Billy H. Hinton, 79, of Valley died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at 
George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.
   Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service 
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Revs. Allen Mahan and Ben Hewitt 
officiating.  Burial followed in Johnson Memorial Gardens.
   Mr. Hinton is survived by his wife, Maggie Hinton; two daughters, Jane 
Bonner of Valley and Tammy Holliday of Valley; one brother, Mack Hinton of 
Rogersville; one sister, Ann Wilder of Montgomery; four grandchildren; five 
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Born Jan. 2, 1926, in Randolph County, Mr. Hinton was the son of the late 
Willie M. and Janie H. Hinton.  He was a very loving husband, father and 
grandfather.  He was an avid fisherman.  Mr. Hinton was a big Alabama football 
fan.  He served as a deacon at Plant City Baptist Church.  Mr. Hinton was 
preceded in death by his granddaughter, Wendy Kirby Jackson.

Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer's Research Foundation in Mr. Hinton's

Tommy D. Davis

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Tommy D. Davis, 62, of LaGrange, Ga. died Saturday, Jan. 15, 
2005 at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Mr. Davis was born March 17, 1942 in Randolph County, son of the late Ora 
Dee and Bela Willingham Davis.  He was a member of Long Cane Lodge 424, F&AM, 
and had retired from CAFI.  He was a member of East LaGrange Baptist Church.
   Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Shirley H. Davis of LaGrange; two 
sons, Timothy D. Davis of LaGrange and Tracy D. Davis of Duluth, Ga.; one 
daughter, Shirah E. Davis of LaGrange; one sister, Charlene Cole of LaGrange; 
six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Edward Davis, Ray 
Davis and Daniel Davis; and a sister, Grace Overton.
   Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, in the chapel of Striffler-Harnby 
Mortuary, with the Rev. Sheila Crowe officiating.  Burial followed in Restlawn

   (ROANOKE) Dera Mae, Phillips, 77, of Roanoke died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, 
at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.

(CST), with the Rev. Harvey L. Jones officiating.  Interment will be in the 
church cemetery.
   Mrs. Phillips was a member of Rehope Baptist Church, LaFayette.  She retired 
from Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke, with over 25 years of service.
   Surviving are one daughter, Annie Whatley of Washington, D.C.; four sons, 
Willie Phillips, Minister Luther Phillips and Calvin Phillips of Roanoke and 
James Phillips Jr. of Temple Hills, Md.; one brother, Walter Phillips of 
Roanoke; two sisters, Evelyn Gates and Vera Heath of Roanoke; 10 grandchildren; 
four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Myrtie Lee Thomas

   (VILLA RICA, Ga.) Services for Myrtie Lee Thomas, 89, of Villa Rica, Ga.,

Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mickey Vaughn and the Rev. Tommy Gene Young

   Miss Thomas died Friday, Jan. 14, at Douglasville Nursing and Rehabilitation 
Center.
   Surviving are one sister, Edna Davis of Villa Rica, and several nieces and 
nephews.	
   Miss Thomas was born Sept. 27, 1915, daughter of Martin Manning and Laura 
McCain Thomas.  She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a weaver for

Bobby Joe Stewart

   (WADLEY) Services for Bobby Joe Stewart, 65, of Wadley will be Wednesday, 
Jan. 26, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Corinth Christian Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Brand 
officiating.  Mr. Stewart will lie in state one hour before service at the 
church.  Burial will follow at Forresters Chapel Cemetery.
   Mr. Stewart died Monday, Jan. 24, at his home.
   Survivors include one daughter, Rhonda Stewart of Talladega; his mother, 
Elva Stewart of Wadley; and three brothers, Pete and Billy Stewart of Wadley 
and Johnny Stewart of Atlanta, Ga.

   Mr. Stewart was born Sept. 18, 1939, son of William Elton and Elva Noles

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Edward "Ed" Terrence McCain, 60, of Wedowee were

   Mr. McCain died Sunday, Jan. 23, at his home.

McCain of Roanoke; one brother, Tony McCain of Wedowee; and eight grandchildren.

   Mr. McCain was born May 1, 1944, son of Kermit and Eron Campbell McCain.  He

   (VALLEY) Powell W. White, 75, of Valley died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at his 
residence.

   Mr. White is survived by his wife, Sarah White; one daughter, Geneva Hembree 
of LaGrange; one son, Ronnie White of Fredonia; seven sisters, Virie Kensey of 
Roanoke, Sandra Traylor and Faye Long of Bowdon, Ga., Artis Daniel of Anniston, 
Myrtlene Luker of Delta, Mary Ward of Phenix City and Jane Whaley of Lanett; 
three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Born Aug. 7, 1929, in Wedowee, Mr. White was the son of the late Lona Mae 
Hollaway White and William Elton White.  He was an active member of the Valley 
Rescue Squad for 37 years and served as its president for 17 years.  Mr. White 
was a retired employee of WestPoint Stevens Lanett Mill with 49 years of ser
vice with the company.  He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army 
during the Korean War.  Mr. White was a member of Lanier Baptist Church and was 
a member of the Disabled American Veterans for the past 18 years.
   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice 
in his memory.

   (WEST POINT, Ga.) Winfred Norred, 69, of West Point, Ga., died Monday, Jan.

   Mr. Norred is survived by his wife, Doris Prather Norred of West Point; two

Jennings of LaGrange; one son, Tommy Norred Sr. of West Point; three sisters, 
Ruby Adams of Lanett, Myrtle Newman of West Point and Julie Harrison of 
Clarksville, Tenn; and six grandchildren.
   Born April 21, 1935, in Randolph County, Mr. Norred was the son of the late 
Bertha Mae Smith Norred and George Marion Norred Sr.  He was retired from 
WestPoint Stevens Langdale Mill in Valley with 33 years of service.  He loved 
his children and grand-children.  He was of the Methodist faith.

   Mr. Kirby died Sunday, Jan. 23, at DHC Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.
   Survivors include his wife, Kathy Sellers Kirby; a stepdaughter, Brandy 
Sellers Hall; a stepson, Wesley Hall; two sons Shane and Kristopher Kirby; and 
one grandson.

was born in Randolph County and was a graduate of Oxford High School where he

father, Leon Kirby; and two sons, Michael and Scott Kirby.

and Connie Henry Halsey.  She was of the Methodist faith and had been employed

   (WOODLAND) Marion Arthur Cox, 78, of Woodland died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in

   He was born in Randolph County, July 24, 1926, son of the late Luther Edward 
and Meddie Bell Stevens Cox.  He was a retired employee of Trentix.  In 
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Edward 
Cox and William Buren Cox, and one sister, Mattie Skinner.
   Survivors include his wife Annie Fay Daniel Cox of Woodland; two sons, J. W. 
Cox and H. M. Cox of Woodland; two daughters, Shirley Geter and Helen Phillips 
of Woodland; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Steve 
Edward Cox of Carrollton, Ga.

H. and Lou Ola Walker Vinson.  She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church 
and was a homemaker.
   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim 
Breed; a daughter, Mae Bell Breed; a brother, James Vinson; a grandson, Jamie 
Cosper, and sons-in-law Junior Cofield and Leo Cosper.
   Survivors include two daughters, Adell Cofield of Wedowee and Doris Cosper 
of Graham; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-
grandchildren.

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Irma C. Holloway, 85, of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 
17, 2005, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mrs. Holloway was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Randolph County, Ala., the daughter 
of the late Will and Lena McClendon Cook.  She lived in LaGrange for most of 
her life and retired from the Dunson Division of West Point Pepperell.  She was 
a member of Wehadkee Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 
several years.  She enjoyed the outdoors and loved gardening.
   She is survived by two daughters, Martha Yarbrough of the Abbottsford 
community and Runette Bagley of LaGrange; sons Rayford Holloway, Steve Holloway 
and Gary Holloway, all of the Abbottsford community; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-
grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Will Cook 
of Sandy Springs, Ga., and Sonny Cook of LaGrange.  She was preceded in death 
by her husband, Curtis Holloway; a daughter, Peggy Joyce Holloway; and a 
grandson, Brad Holloway.
   Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in the Hunter-Allen-
Myhand Chapel with the Rev. Olin McClain officiating.  Burial was in Shadowlawn 
Cemetery.

   (HEADLAND) Flossie Granberry Richards, 94, of Headland died Thursday, Jan. 
20, 2005, in a Dothan hospital.

Headland, with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders Jr. officiating.  Committal services were 
at 3 p.m. Saturday in the New Hope Christian Church Cemetery in Abanda, with 
W.R. "Bill" Snell of Headland officiating.

   Mrs. Richards was born Nov. 27, 1910, in Henry County, daughter of the late 
George Frank Granberry and Maggie Armstrong Granberry.  She was a graduate of 
Houston County High School in Columbia and received a degree in home economics 
from Auburn University in 1940.  Mrs. Richards taught home economics in 
Milltown for 34 years.  She married James Herod "Rich" Richards in 1943.  Mr. 
and Mrs. Richards lived in Abanda until his death in 1985.  She moved to 
Headland in 1987.
   Mrs. Richards was an active member of First Baptist Church of Headland and 
the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.  She volunteered in the church office and 
library and had been a member of the Prime Time Singers.  Mrs. Richards was an 
active participant in the Burdeshaw-Solomon Senior Center.
   Mrs. Richards was preceded in death by her husband, James Herod "Rich" 
Richards of Abanda; four sisters, Margaret Granberry, Gladys Bryant, Beatrice 
Spivey and Ky Sharff; and a brother Monford Jack Granberry.	
   Surviving are a sister, Dutchie Lee Granberry Baggett of Columbus, Ga.; two 
brothers, Glenn Granberry of Headland  and William A. Granberry of Sarasota, 
Fla.; ten nieces, ten nephews, numerous great-nieces and	nephews, and 
great-great-nieces and nephews.

   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Haynes was born Oct. 1, 1919, daughter of

and the Retired Teachers Association.  She had been a junior high school 
teacher, employed for 30 years with the Randolph County Board of Education.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Haynes; a granddaughter, 
Stephanie Hudson; and a son, Anthony Haynes.

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Lois Mae Stillwell, 87, of LaGrange, Ga., died Wednesday,

   Mrs. Stillwell was born April 23, 1917, in Randolph County, Ala., the 
daughter of the late Jack and Ella Smith Spradlin.  She lived in LaGrange most 
of her life and was a member of East Vernon Baptist Church.  Mrs. Stillwell was 
a homemaker and a seamstress.
   She is survived by a son, Mac Stillwell of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter 
Diane Simmons of Alexander City; six grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Veal of Roanoke and Willie Mae Blackmon of 
LaGrange.  She was preceded in death by her husband, R. C. Stillwell and a 
daughter, Maxine Cook.
   Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at East Vernon Baptist 
Church with Clayton Scott and the Rev. Don Ellison officiating.  Burial was in

Nonnie Whatley Key

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Nonnie Key, 90, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, Jan. 15, 
2005, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
   Mrs. Key was born Sept. 10, 1914, in Randolph County, Ala., daughter of the 
late Rufus Jackson and Clara Evelyn Hood Whatley.  She had lived in LaGrange 
most of her life and was a member of Hilyer Baptist Church.  She retired from 
the Dunson Division of West Point Pepperell after 50 years.
   Survivors include a son, William Key; three grandchildren, four great-
grandchildren; a brother, Paul Whatley of LaGrange; two sisters-in-law; and 
several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
   Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand 
Chapel with the Revs. Bill Bryant and S.T. Janney officiating.  Burial was in

Sallie Woody

   (LaFAYETTE) Sallie Woody, 72, of LaFayette died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at 
East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
   Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. CST at New Mt. Sellers 
Baptist Church in LaFayette with the Rev. Terry Magby, pastor, and Elder Gerald 
Richardson officiating.  Burial was in Handy Cemetery.  
   Ms. Woody is survived by three daughters, Sharon Story, Brenda Moore and 
Cynthia Barker of LaFayette; eight sons, J.C. Woody, Clarence Woody, Freddy 
Woody, Bobby Woody, Lamar Woody, Larry Woody, Tommy Woody and Terry Woody of 
LaFayette; two sisters, Minnie Kate Woody and Mattie Whitlow of LaFayette; six 
brothers, John Henry Daniel of Five Points, Marvin Daniel of Lanett, James 
Daniel of Atlanta, Richard Daniel of Milledgeville, Ga., Milford Daniel of 
Wadley and Jonus Daniel of LaFayette; her mother-in-law, Era Bailey of 
LaFayette; 31 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
   Ms. Woody was born June 22, 1932, in Chambers County.  She was a member of 
Greater-Realness of God Church of God in Christ in LaFayette.

Joyce Wiggins

   (HOGANSVILLE, Ga.) Joyce Wiggins, 66, of Hogansville, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 
17, 2005, at her home.
   Born Aug. 13, 1938, in Randolph County, Ala., Miss Wiggins was the daughter 
of the late William Columbus Wiggins and the late Ila Mae Embry Wiggins.  She 
lived in Hogansville most of her life and was a member of the Baptist church.
   Survivors include a sister, Wanda Jones of Grantville, Ga.; a brother, 
Wendell Wiggins of Columbus, Ga.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-
nephews.
   Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the chapel of Claude 
A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. James Moon officiated and interment 
was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Ertis Bowen Hammock

   (VALLEY) Ertis Bowen Hammock, 85, of Valley died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at 
Lanier Memorial Hospital.
   Mrs. Hammock was born in Randolph County Dec. 12, 1919, daughter of the late 
Hattie Glema Robinson Bowen and Homer Levi Bowen.  Mrs. Hammock loved to walk 
and care for her garden.  She was a Bible scholar and a member of Riverview 
Pentecostal Church.
   Surviving are two daughters, Pat DeLoach of Valley and Peggy Lockett of 
Tuscumbia; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; four sisters, Girtie Mae 
Wood, Mary Jo Black and Dorothy Bowen of Valley and Bonnie Lee Sanders of 
Roanoke; several nieces, nephews and friends.
   Services were at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 2 
p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.  The Rev. Roy Bain 
officiated.
