OBITUARIES:

Cleo Cummings Young

   (ROANOKE) Services for Cleo Cummings Young, 91, of Roanoke will be 
Wednesday, June 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. 
Tommy Gene Young officiating.  Burial will follow at Welcome Home Baptist 
Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Young died Monday, June 4, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Survivors include one son, Ralph Young of Atlanta; nine grandchildren; 13 
great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Young was born Oct. 7, 1915, daughter of 
Elbert and Zora Holloway Cummings. She had been employed as a spinner by 
Handley Mills and a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church. She was preceded in 
death by her husband, George W. Young; and two sons, Edgar Young and William 
Young.

Harold Bozeman

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Harold Bozeman, 66, of Wedowee will be Wednesday, 
June 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Donald 
Spradlin, David Taft and Lynn Janney officiating. Mr. Bozeman will lie in state 
one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining 
cemetery.
   Mr. Bozeman died Monday, June 4, at Wedowee Hospital. The family will 
receive friends on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home.
   Pallbearers will be Derrick Bozeman, Joseph Mitchell, Travis Kelley, Josh 
Milam, Josh Spradlin, Mike Spradlin, Kenneth Spradlin and Cody Bozeman.
   Mr. Bozeman is survived by two daughters, Sharon Milam of Roanoke and Tonya 
East of Franklin, Ga.; two sons, Dwayne and Chad Bozeman of Wedowee; one 
sister, Hazel Puckett of Wedowee; one brother, Wornell Bozeman of Roanoke; 
seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
   Mr. Bozeman was born Aril 28, 1941, son of Dewey and Elila Pool Bozeman. He 
was a member of Mt. Grove Baptist Church and a trim make in the door department 
of Wellborn Cabinets. Mr. Bozeman was preceded in death by his parents.

Katheryn Aurelia Owensby

   (ROANOKE) Katheryn Aurelia Owensby of Roanoke died Monday, May 28, 2007, at 
West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.  
   Mrs. Owensby, a native of Heard County, Ga., was born June 26, 1925, 
daughter of the late Rev. Joe Mitchell Strickland and Mrs. Clevia Broome 
Strickland.  She was the fourth child of 12.  She was employed with Cheaha 
State Medical Health.  Mrs. Owensby was a devoted member of Mount Carrie 
Baptist Church, where she served as president of the choir and counselor of the 
Southwestern Union District, where she served for years. In addition, she was 
counselor of Mount Carrie Baptist Church Matrons.
   She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Brenda Truitt of 
Carrollton, Ga., and Annie Culberson of Franklin, Ga.; one godchild, Lucille 
Dallas of LaGrange, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, 
Mozell Reid and Mildred Morgan, both of LaGrange; one brother, Hodges 
Strickland of Atlanta; 13 sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; one daughter-in-
law; two sons-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She was 
preceded in death by her husband, deacon Charlie W. Owensby; and children, 
Leonard Lanard, Gloria Lorene, Gladys Corene, Charlie Willis and Annie.
   The funeral will be Saturday, June 2, at 1 p.m. at Mount Carrie Baptist 
Church on Victory Road in Franklin. The Rev. Ronnie Jones will officiate.  
Burial will be in Stateline Baptist Church Cemetery.

Olene Hester

   (FRANKLIN, Ga.) Olene Hester, 75, of Franklin, Ga., formerly of LaGrange, 
Ga., died Saturday June 2, 2007, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
   Mrs. Hester was born in 1932 in Randolph County, Ala., daughter of the late 
Jabe and Lillian Knott Woodard. She was retired and was a member of New 
Community Church and the Edwards Community Group. Mrs. Hester delivered meals 
on wheels for the Troup County Senior Center. She loved quilting and was an 
avid reader.
   Survivors include two daughters, Ronda Steeley of Bartlett, Tenn., and Susan 
Harris Jr. of Franklin; two sons, Tyre Hester of Snellville, Ga., and Jerry 
Hester of Monticello, Ga.; brother, Tommy Woodard of LaGrange; sister, Marjorie 
Franklin of Wedowee; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several 
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Hester.
   The funeral services for Mrs. Hester will be at 11 Tuesday, June 5, at New 
Community Church with Rev. Gerald Westbrook officiating. Interment will be at 
Restlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 
Monday evening from 6 until 8.
   Flowers will be accepted, or those desiring may make contributions in memory 
of Mrs. Hester to the New Community Church Missions Fund and Benevolent Fund[.]

Suggs B. Sugar' Strickland

   (ROANOKE) Suggs B. Sugar Strickland, 88, of Roanoke, died Friday, June 1, 
2007, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Services for Ms. Strickland will be Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at Peace 
and Goodwill Baptist Church, Roanoke, with the Revs. L.B. Houston and Steve 
Joiner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include a son, Tillman Brooks Jr. of San Francisco, Calif.; two 
brothers, Andrew Ellis Jr. of Roanoke and the Rev. C.L. Ellis of Youngstown, 
Ohio; a sister, Emma Finney of Anniston; and two grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Tillman Brooks Sr.; two brothers, John Henry 
Ellis and William Ellis; and three sisters, Ivy Joiner, Willie Mae Spence and 
Nannie Mae Hamilton.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service from 10 a.m. until 
6 p.m. on Friday. The body will be placed in the church one hour before 
services.

Dewey Bremen Smith

   (LAFAYETTE) Dewey Bremen Smith, 86, of LaFayette died Sunday, June 3, 2007, 
at LaFayette Extended Care.
   Military graveside services were at Ava Methodist Church Cemetery on 
Tuesday, June 5, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Michael Stiggers officiated. Pallbearers 
were from a military honor guard.
   Surviving are three sons, Dewey Lamar Smith of Carrollton, Ga., Harry Smith 
of Wedowee and Kenneth Edward Smith of LaFayette; one brother, Coy Smith of 
LaGrange, Ga.; six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
   Mr. Smith was born Oct. 20, 1920. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 
years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aline Smith, and two 
grandsons, Chris Smith and Jeremy Smith,

Winnie Bradley Washington

   (BISHOP, Ga.) Winnie Bradley Washington, 93, of Bishop, Ga., died Tuesday 
morning May 29, 2007.
   Mrs. Washington was born in Randolph County, Ala., on Aug. 2, 1913, the 
daughter of the late George Bradley and Verna Adcock Bradley. She was a 
homemaker and member of the Bowdon First Baptist Church.
   Survivors include a daughter, Betty Washington MacPherson of Bishop; a son, 
Jerry E. Washington of Rainbow City; eight grandchildren; eight great-
grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Bradley Washington of Carrollton, Ga. Besides 
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert E. Washington, 
one sister and three brothers.
   Funeral services will be Thursday, May 31, at 2 P.M. from the chapel of 
Almon Funeral Home with Mr. William H. Nix officiating. Interment will be in 
the Rocky Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Woodland.
   Pallbearers will be William Nix, Douglas MacPherson, Alan MacPherson, Bruce 
MacPherson, Edward Mitchell and Christopher Long.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 until 8 
p.m.

James Lucke Hauer

   (WADLEY) Services for James Lucke Hauer, 59, of Wadley will be Thursday, 
June 7, 2007, at 2 p.m. from Wadley First United Methodist Church with the 
Revs. Paul Messer and Richard Stryker officiating. Graveside services will be 
held Friday, June 8, at 1 p.m. from Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. on 
Wednesday, June 6.
   Mr. Hauer died Tuesday, June 5 at St. Francis.
   Survivors include his wife, the Rev. Martha Sue Hauer of Wadley; one 
daughter, Katherine Sprickard of Athens, Ala.; and one grandson.

Methodist Church, 371 Highland Ave., Wadley, AL 36276.
   Mr. Hauer was born Sept. 11, 1947, son of Edward and Helen Lucke Hauer. He 
was a Vietnam Navy veteran and a member of Wadley First United Methodist 
Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Helen Hauer; and 
one brother, Edward Hauer.

Joyce Yates Keeble

   (HUNTSVILLE) Joyce Yates Keeble, 78, of Huntsville died Friday, June 1, 2007.
   Survivors include a son, Bill Keeble; a daughter, Rebecca Martin of 
Huntsville: two granddaughters; and a sister, Janet Willis of Apache Junction, 
Ariz.
   Services were at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Aldersgate United Methodist 
Church. Burial followed in Roselawn Cemetery.
   Mrs. Keeble was born Dec. 14, 1928, and grew up in Roanoke, where her 
father, Ilo Yates, owned the Pure Gas Station.

Elvis L. Chief' Wilson

   (VALLEY) Elvis L. Chief Wilson, 78, of Valley died Sunday, May 27, 2007, 
at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley.
   Services were Wednesday, May 30, at 9 a.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral 
Home Chapel in Valley. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. at Crain Cemetery 
near Milton, Fla.
   Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Wilson; his daughter, 
Cynthia J. Wilson of Valley; his son, Timothy E. Wilson of Valley; seven 
sisters, Imogene Murphy and Geneva Roberts of Ozark, Nell Hamil of Augusta, 
Ga., Betty Hopper of Huntsville, Josephine Jerkins of Fort Pierce, Fla., 
Charlene Riddle of Opelika and Helen Hamil of Beaufort, S.C.; and two brothers, 
Edward Wilson and Wayne Wilson, both of Pisgah.
   Mr. Wilson was born Dec. 14, 1928, in Wedowee. He retired from the U.S. Navy 
after 20 years and 4 months. Mr. Wilson then worked at Wilson Roofing for many 
years after his military retirement. He attended Emanuel Temple.

Johnie A. Spot' Jones

   (JACKSON'S GAP) Services for Johnie A. Spot Jones, 68, of Jackson's Gap, 
will be Monday, June 4, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church with Dr. 
John Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park.
   Mr. Jones died on Friday, June 1, at his residence.
   He was born on July 2, 1938 in Tennessee to Louis E. Jones and Gertie. L. 
Staggs Jones. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. For 40 years, he was a 
contract truck driver in the logging business. He enjoyed Alabama football and 
the Atlanta Braves. He loved his family very much and enjoyed the family being 
together.
   He is survived by his wife, Pauline H. Jones of Jackson's Gap; sons, Darin 
Jones, James Culligan and Wayne Culligan, all of Alexander City; daughters, 
Sherry Hayes and Misty Martin of Alexander City; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren; brothers, Jimmy T. Jones of Opelika, William T. Jones of Wadley 
and Elmer L. Jones of Tallassee; sisters, Mary Griffin of Alexander City and 
Virginia Griffin of Cragford. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-
in-law, Bernice Hurst; and a daughter, Fran Curlee.

Peggy Ann Puckett

   (VALLEY) Graveside services for Peggy Ann Puckett, 59, of Valley were 
Monday, June 11, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, 
Wedowee, with the Rev. Donald Spradlin officiating.
   Mrs. Puckett died Friday, June 8, at Columbus Regional Medical Center.
   Survivors include her husband, Clinton Puckett of Valley; one daughter, 
Sherry Lynn McIlwain of Trussville; one son, Rex Jamie Puckett of Biloxi, 
Miss.; one sister, Carolyn McCord of Arab; and two grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were L.W. Culbertson, Tommy Wadkins, Freddie Payne, Lamar Payne, 
Bruce Lee and Luis Aleman.
   A Randolph County native, Mrs. Puckett was born Jan. 28, 1948, daughter of 
William Hettie and Lenie B. Holloway Bowen. She was a church member at Father's 
House Christian Fellowship and a self-employed hairstylist. She was preceded in 
death by her parents.

   (WOODLAND) Services for Natalie Michelle Purvine Turner, 29, of Woodland

in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mrs. Turner died Thursday, June 7, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical 
Center, Anniston.
   Mrs. Turner is survived by three sons, Marcus Purvine and Matthew and Travis 
Turner, all of Woodland; her parents, Randy and Pam Hewett of Woodland; 
paternal grandparents, Frank and Anne Smith of Grayson, Ga.; two sisters, 
Shannon Covington of Douglasville, Ga., and Molly Herrin of Jefferson, Ga.; and 
one brother, Pfc. Bradley Hewett of Camp Lejeune, N.C.
   Pallbearers were Chuck Covington, Pfc. Bradley Hewett, USMC, Sean Herrin, 
Benji Dockery, Scott Purvine and Chris Covington.
   Mrs. Turner was born Aug. 30, 1977, the daughter of Steve Purvine and Pam 
Harper Purvine. She was a member of Douglasville Christian Church and had been 
a medical assistant for the Atlanta Urological Group. Mrs. Turner was preceded 
in death by her father, Steve Purvine; grandparents, Billy and Betty Harper; 
and grandfather, Buddy Purvine.

Cheryl Anne Hall Griffith

   (PIEDMONT) Services for Cheryl Anne Hall Griffith, 50, will be at K.L. Brown 
Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2007, 
with the Rev. William Cain officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial 
Gardens.
   Mrs. Griffith died Saturday, June 9, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.
   She is survived her husband, Roy Alan Griffith of Piedmont; her parents, 
Lauton and Dorothy Hall of Jacksonville; three daughters, Jessica Zimmer of 
Woodland, Kimberly White of Jacksonville and Kristy Griffith of Piedmont; a 
son, David Griffith of Piedmont; two nieces and one nephew.
   Pallbearers will be Jonathan James, Ronald Foster, Joe Hall, Robert Brooks, 
Terry Brooks, Keith Jenkins, Phillip George, Jason Zimmer and Bradley White. 
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Hall of Phoenix, Ariz.
   Mrs. Griffith was a wonderful, loving wife and a devoted mother.  She loved 
animals, loved to sing and enjoyed doing hair. A graduate of Weaver High 
School, she played clarinet in the band and was a member of the color guard. 
She also played piano and autoharp.

Thomas Frederick Harlin

   (LEXINGTON, Ky.) Thomas Frederick Harlin, 90, a native of Randolph County, 
Ala., and a resident of Lexington, Ky., since 1960, died Wednesday, June 6, 
2007.
   He was the son of the late Warren P. and Emily Head Harlin. Mr. Harlin was 
an Auburn University graduate and was in government employ prior to World War 
II service. After the war, he worked for the Veterans Administration and was 
later the chief arbitrator for the Federal Mortgage Housing Administration for 
the south-eastern United States. From 1957-60, he was in the private mortgage 
business in Florida, and after 1960, comptroller and investment manager at 
Lexington Theological Seminary until 1987. He was a member of Crestwood 
Christian Church and a number of civic and service organizations.
   He was predeceased by his loving wife of 69 years, Elsie Moses Harlin. He is 
survived by a son, Philip W. Harlin; two grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren; and a sister, Geneva Wofford of Hickory, N.C.
   A graveside service was at noon on Saturday, June 9, at Lebanon Christian 
Church Cemetery near Roanoke.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Lebanon Christian Church or 
hospice.

Sarah Jane Sanford

   (VALLEY) Services for Sarah Jane Sanford, 86, of Valley were Saturday, June 
9, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Bryan 
officiating.
   Mrs. Sanford died Tuesday, June 5, at Lanier Nursing Home, Valley.
   Survivors include two daughters, Rosa Lee Rowe of Wayne, W.Va., and 
Elizabeth Ann Sellards of Rock Mills; four sons, Bill Sanford of Lanett, Henry 
D. Sanford of Rock Mills, Charles E. Sanford of Buffalo, W.Va. and Donald L. 
Sanford of Beach Fork, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 
one great-great-grandchild.
   Pallbearers were grandsons, Kevin, Nathan and Brad Sanford, Sammy and Tony 
Rowe and Daniel Street.
   Mrs. Sanford was born Oct. 4, 1920, daughter of the Charles Elba and Cordie 
Alice Howerton Lawhorn. She was a member of Calvary Worship Center in Valley 
and was a homemaker. Mrs. Sanford was preceded in death by her parents and her 
husband, Nathan Sanford.

   (DOUBLE SPRINGS) Frances Cardwell Potts, 86, of Double Springs died Tuesday, 
June 5, [2007] at Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville.
   Funeral services were Thursday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Brown-Service 
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.
   Mrs. Potts is survived by her daughter, Catherine Wade of Double Springs; 
three sisters, Richelle Wright, Alana Wright and Bethany Wright; and three 
grandchildren.
   Born Nov. 10, 1920, in Randolph County, Mrs. Potts was the daughter of the 
[late?] Dorcas Seymour Cardwell and William Cardwell. She was preceded in death 
by her husband, Herman Potts.

   (WADLEY) Vernon Joe Battle, 69, of Wadley died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at 
Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Services will be Wednesday, June 13, at noon at County Line Baptist Church, 
Wadley, with the Revs. Tim Heard, William Trammell and William Dean 
officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include three brothers, Willie James Battle and Herschel Battle of 
Wadley and Robert Battle of Roanoke; a sister, Jean Zachery of Wadley; and 
special friends, Recie Battle and Lisa Thompson of Wadley. He was preceded in 
death by his parents, Leonard and Katie Battle; three brothers, Melvin Battle, 
L.J. Battle and Benjamin Battle; and a sister, Mittie Lee Battle Lewis.

David Wayne Stewart

   (WOODLAND) Graveside services for David Wayne Stewart, 42, of Woodland will 
be Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Wortham Cemetery, with the Bro. Gerald 
Romine officiating.
   Mr. Stewart died Saturday, June 16, in Wadley.
   Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Kathy Stewart of Woodland; two 
daughters, April and Tammy Stewart of Woodland; two sons, David and Madison 
Stewart of Woodland; his mother, June Stewart of Woodland; his maternal 
grandmother, Ruth Elizabeth Stewart of Opelika; one sister, Annie Ruth Pool of 
Wedowee; and two brothers, Robin Lewis and James Garfield Stewart of Woodland.
   Pallbearers will be Chuck Lawson, Larry McCormick, Richard Taylor, Brandon 
Stewart, Dustin Messer, Richard Yates, Gary McCormick and Wayne Messer.
   Mr. Stewart was born April 27, 1965, son of William Howard Taft and June 
Elizabeth Stewart. He had been automobile mechanic. Mr. Stewart was preceded in 
death by his father and one brother, William Howard Stewart. In lieu of

Russell Wayne Bo' Parmer

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Russell Wayne Bo Parmer, 56, of LaGrange, Ga., died 
Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mr. Parmer was born Aug. 17, 1950, in West Point, Ga., son of Ethel Palmer 
Mitchell and William Pinky Parmer. He resided in Houston, Texas, for 18 years, 
where he was a self-employed electrician. Mr. Parmer was formerly employed as 
an electrician for the city of West Point and the city of LaGrange. He was a 
1968 graduate of West Point High School and had attended West Georgia College 
in Carrollton.
   Survivors in addition to his parents include two brothers, Ralph L. Parmer 
of Houston and Ray Parmer of Omaha, Ala.; two sisters, Ann Parmer Folds of 
Mountville and Carol Parmer Morgan of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Larry Wayne Parmer, and two 
brothers, William Harold Parmer and Aaron Parmer.
   The funeral for Mr. Parmer was at 3 p.m. EDT Monday at the Hunter-Allen-
Myhand Chapel with Ken Waldroup and the Rev. Charles Greathouse officiating.

Loyd Monroe Lipscomb

   (HEFLIN) The Rev. Loyd Monroe Lipscomb, 69, of Heflin, died Saturday, June 
16, 2007, at Regional Medical Center, Anniston.
   He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Allen Lipscomb of Heflin; two sons, David 
Lipscomb of Ashland and Harold Lipscomb of Jacksonville; four sisters, Nettie 
Farrow of Huntsville, Connie Moore of Heflin, Jane Rice of  Newell and Peggy 
Jacks of Oxford; a brother, Donnie Lipscomb of Newell; and four grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gurland and Donna Lipscomb.
   The Rev. Lipscomb was born in Gadsden, a lifelong resident of Cleburne 
County and retired from the Cleburne County School System with 22 years of 
service. He served Cleburne County as probate judge for six years and as a 
Baptist minister. He was a pastor of churches in Cleburne, Calhoun, Clay and 
Randolph counties for 30 years. He had been a member of Pine Grove Baptist 
Church in Cleburne County since he retired.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, June 19, at 2 p.m., at Pine Grove Baptist 
Church with the Revs. David Lipscomb, T.J. Morgan and G.K. Abner and Dr. Steve 
Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow in Heflin City Cemetery. The family 
will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will lie 
in state at the church one hour prior to services.
   Pallbearers were be Mack McManus, Lendon Fields, Ronald Kembrell, Jimmy 
Allen, Stewart Moore, Bill Prestridge, Joey Hand and Donnie Lipscomb. Honorary

Lucille Quinn Elliott

   (WADLEY) Services for Lucille Quinn Elliott, 84, of Wadley, were Friday, 
June 15, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Wadley First United Methodist Church with the Revs. 
Martha Sue Hauer and Bobby Burroughs and Marty Swartz officiating. Burial 
followed at Wadley Cemetery.
   Mrs. Elliott died Wednesday, June 13, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Survivors include one daughter, Linda Hodges of Wadley; two sons, Larry 
Elliott of Cusseta and Ronnie Elliott of Roanoke; six grandchildren and 10 
great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were her grandsons: Troy Hodges, Ryan Conger, Kevin Ogilvie, 
Kevin Elliott, Joe Jabo Jordan and Butch Sprayberry.
   Mrs. Elliott was born in Limestone County on April 16, 1923, daughter of 
Charlie B. and Katie Brown Quinn. She was a member of Wadley First United 
Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, 
William Shorty Lester Elliott; two sisters, Dot Elliott and Daisy Palmer; two 
brothers, Floyd Quinn and Allen Quinn; and one grandson, Chad Lamar Elliott.

   (OXFORD) Services for Robert Loyd Bolt, 79, of Oxford, were 1 p.m., Monday, 
June 18, 2007, in the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home and Crematory with the

Edgemont Cemetery.
   Mr. Bolt died Friday, June 15, at his residence.
  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Juanita Bolt; daughter, Retha Howard 
of Oxford; son, Richard Bolt of Ohatchee; two grandchildren; and four great-
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Nina Sellers 
Bolt.

   Mr. Bolt was a native of Randolph County and had lived in Oxford for the 
past 47 years. He was retired from Shelco Foundry in Jacksonville as a 
millwright.

   (ARAB) Carolyn Wanda McCord of Arab died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at her 
residence.
   Graveside services were Saturday, June 16, at 1:30 p.m. at Brookwood

   Mrs. McCord was born May 12, 1949, in Wedowee to William
Heddie and Lonnie Bee Holloway Bowen. She was a homemaker. 
   She is survived by her husband, Jeff McCord of Arab; two daughters, Lori 
Wright of Arab and Wendy Walker of Guntersville; four grandchildren; and one 
great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Peggy 
Puckett.

Berthell Crane

   (WEST POINT, Ga.) Berthell Crane, 83, of West Point, Ga., died Friday, June 
15, 2007, at her home.
   Mrs. Crane was born March 26, 1924, in Geraldine Ala., daughter of the late 
William Richard and Mamie Leola Webb Harper. She was a member of Pine Grove 
United Methodist Church in Opelika and the Friendship Sunday school class. She 
worked in the textile industry for West Point Pepperell.
   Survivors include her son-in-law, John Hoff of LaGrange, Ga.; five 
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice Parmer of Woodland; 
brothers, Lester Harper of LaGrange, Leroy Harper, Vernard Harper, Donald 
Harper and a sister, Dura Toole, all of Bowdon, Ga.; and numerous nieces and 
nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Crane; daughter, 
Myra Ellen Hoff; brothers, Grady Harper and Ernest Harper; and sisters, Inez 
Parmer and Mildred Harper.
   Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. EDT Sunday, June 17, in the Hunter-
Allen-Myhand Chapel with Rev. Mark McCarty and Rev. Ricky Thomaston

Emma Juanita Hall Williams

   (LAFAYETTE) Emma Juanita Hall Williams, 69, of LaFayette died Monday, June 
18, 2007, at her residence after an intense battle with cancer.
   Services will be Wednesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. CDT at County Line Baptist 
Church.
   Mrs. Williams was born Oct. 1, 1937. She retired from Gaines Williams 
Logging Company after many years of working beside her husband. She was a 
faithful member of County Line Baptist Church and a well known citizen of 
Chambers County.
   Mrs. Williams is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, 
Gaines H. Williams; two children, Victoria Langley of LaFayette and Jennifer 
Yost of Decatur; four grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and many 
dear friends.

Mary Jo Hodges

   (ROANOKE) Services for Mary Jo Hodges, 90, of Roanoke were Friday, June 22, 
2007, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Don Quick and Sandy 
Crosslin officiating. Burial followed in Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mrs. Hodges died Thursday, June 21, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Survivors include four sons, Fred Hodges and Waymon Hodges of Wadley, Don 
Hodges of Sylacauga and Jerrell Hodges of Roanoke; one brother, Pete Turnham of 
Auburn; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and 
nephews.

   Mrs. Hodges was born Aug. 16, 1916, daughter of Joseph Henry and Fannie Mae 
Sessions Turnham. She was a member of Radney's Chapel Methodist Church and had 
been a homemaker.
   Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hodges Sr.; her 
parents; one sister, Grace Moon; three brothers, Carl, Tobe and Bill Turnham.

Harold J. Robinson

   (FRANKLIN, Ga.) Harold J. Robinson, 55, of Franklin, Ga., passed away 
Saturday, June 23, 2007 at his home.
   Mr. Robinson, a native of Irondale, Ala., was born March 11, 1952, and was 
the son of Mae Doris Robinson and the late David J. Browning Sr. He was a 
graduate of Phillips High School in Five Points and was athletic director for 
the Heard County Parks and Recreation Department. He coached Little League 
Football and was a driver for the Swift Trucking Company.
   Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Cheeks Robinson of Franklin; children 
Latasha Session of Carrollton, Ga.; Sedrick Robinson of Cedar Park, Texas; 
Aundra Robinson and Ramus Robinson of Franklin; Tracey Sims of Wedowee; five 
grandchildren; mother, Mae Doris Owen of Lansing, Mich.; four sisters, Marsha 
McFarland of Jonesboro, Ga.; Cheryl Reid of Winder, Ga.; Omega Peoples of 
Lithonia, Ga.; Stacey Godfrey of Birmingham; three brothers, Ricky Harris and 
Jerry Harris of Birmingham; David Browning Jr. of Lithonia; stepmother, Carrie 
Browning of Birmingham; mother-in-law, Irene Cheeks of Franklin, Ga.; sisters

Frances C. Johnson Burney

   (YPSILANTI, Mich.) Frances C. Johnson Burney, 73, of Ypsilanti, Mich., died 
Friday, June 8, 2007, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.
   Services for Mrs. Burney were Thursday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Brown Chapel 
A.M.E. Church, Ypsilanti, with pastor Jerry Hatter officiating. Burial was at 
Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor.
   Mrs. Burney was the first child born to Curley and Rozine Johnson on March 
28, 1934, in Roanoke. She was the 1953 valedictorian of Randolph County 
Training School. Mrs. Burney attended Alabama A&M College in Huntsville and 
worked as a substitute teacher for six years in Roanoke Public Schools. She was 
a former member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Roanoke. On July 15, 1956, she was 
married to Rogers Burney. The family moved to Ypsilanti in 1966, where they 
joined Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church.      Mrs. Burney was a devoted and active 
church member until her health failed. She loved music and served as a member 
of the senior choir. Mrs. Burney was employed by Eastern Michigan University as 
an assistant librarian, retiring in 1988. She was an active member of the 
Eastern Michigan UAW and a longtime member of the EMU Bowling League. 
   Survivors include her husband, Rogers Burney; her daughter, Wanda Burney of 
Romulus, Mich.; her son, Wayne Burney of Ypsilanti; one grandson; two 
granddaughters; a sister, Sandra Bussey of Union City, Ga.; a brother, Howard 
Winston of Fayetteville, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws 
and other relatives and friends. Her parents and three brothers preceded her in 
death.

   Mr. Dobbs died Saturday, June 23, in Wedowee.

the late Y.B. and Pearlie Lee Baldwin Owens. She was a member of Mt. Calvary

grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

   Survivors include two daughters, Louise Treadwell of Atlanta and Sandra 
Meadows of Roanoke; a son, Andrew Meadows of Wadley; two sisters, Savannah 
Meadows of Wadley and Myrtis Walker of Alexander City; a brother, Willie C. 
Lewis of Mobile; a special friend, Deloris Weaver of Wadley; 12 grandchildren 
and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy

   (ORLANDO, Fla.) Sarah Pool Argo, 73, of Orlando, Fla., died June 21, 2007.
   She was born July 21, 1933, in Roanoke to Robert and Nellie Pool. She was a 
1949 graduate of Handley High School and a graduate of Rollins College in 
Winter Park, Fla. Mrs. Argo was a member of College Park Baptist Church, where 
she enjoyed singing in the choir.
   She was preceded in death by her husband John Argo. She is survived by her 
daughters, Annette Toney and Suzette Argo, both of Orlando; three 
grandchildren; brothers, Bob Pool and Bill Pool, both of Roanoke. and Ben Pool 
of Orlando and Roanoke.

Robbie Diane Fuller Sheets

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Services for Mrs. Robbie Diane Fuller Sheets, 51, of

   Mrs. Sheets died on Tuesday, June 19, at West Georgia Medical Center,

   She was born on Oct. 29, 1955, in Tallapoosa County to William Lifford Bud 
Fuller and Freida Millstead Fuller. She was employed by West Georgia Medical 
Center as a Patient Representative, loved her family and Gracie was her pride 
and joy. Mrs. Sheets loved to eat, enjoyed cooking, sewing, cross stitching, 
and flower gardening.
   She is survived by her husband, Larry Sheets; a daughter, Kristin Chappell; 
two sons Hunter Bonner and Forrest Bonner; stepchildren, Paula May, Randall 
Sheets, Jason Sheets and Kelly Kemp; mother, Freida Fuller; sister, Rebecca 
Fuller; brother, Richard Fuller; three grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 
and one great-grandchild.

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Dorothy Duke Toudt, 77, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at West 
Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Ms. Toudt was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Randolph County, daughter of the late 
James A. and Gertrude Vaughn Duke. She retired from West Georgia Medical 
Center, where she worked as a licensed practical nurse. She loved arts and 
crafts, gardening and traveling.
   Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Lorrow of LaGrange; a son, Wesley K. 
Toudt of East Point, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and 
great-great-nephews.
   Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand

Etta Louise Ward Prince

   (BOWDON, Ga.) Etta Louise Ward Prince, 84, of Bowdon, Ga., died Friday, June 
22, 2007, at Oak Mountain Village in Carrollton, Ga.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Prince were conducted Monday, June 25, at 2 p.m. 
at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Roanoke, with the Revs. Neil Awbrey and 
Scott Googe officiating. Close family friend Terry Harper offered a prayer. 
Music was provided by The Prince Family with grandson, Jake Awbrey as 
accompanist, and Danny Kirk offering instrumental music.
   Pallbearers were Scott Prince, Michael Parker, Tylor Prince, Jake Awbrey, 
Will Muse and Frankie Meigs. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Prince was born in Randolph County, Ala., on May 26, 1923, to the late 
Albert Ward and Evelyn Johnson Ward. She was a faithful and loving wife to her 
dear husband Rev. Hulet Prince until his death. Her contribution to his 
ministry helped to make a winning team. Many will have fond memories of her and 
her little children as she poured out her heart on the piano to the sounds of 
their sweet voices, a talent which people were still enjoying until the onset 
of her illness a few weeks ago. Mrs. Prince maintained her membership at 
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Roanoke, but was also active at the Glenloch 
Baptist Church in Heard County where her grandson, Neil Awbrey, is pastor. She 
always used the gifts God gave her where ever she was. Before her retirement, 
she was employed as a seamstress at Sewell Manufacturing Company in Bowdon and 
later Baby Cloze Manufacturing Company in Franklin, Ga.
   She is survived by two daughters, Judy Awbrey of Franklin and Jennifer Muse 
of Roopville, Ga.; three sons, Jimmy Prince of Atlanta, Jerry Prince of 
Franklin and Joel Prince of Carrollton; one sister, Shirlene Meigs of Bowdon; 
one brother, Alfred Ward also of Bowdon; 10 grandchildren; eight great-
grandchildren; and a host of adoring friends and other relatives.

   (BARTLESVILLE, Okla.) Donna Jo Calhoun, 71, of Bartlesville, Okla., died 
Friday, June 15, 2007, at Jane Phillips Medical Center.
   Services were at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 18, at Rose Hill Community Baptist 
Church, with the Rev. Orville Moody officiating. Interment was in the Dewey 
Cemetery.
   Survivors include her husband, David L. Pete Calhoun of Dewey, Okla., 
formerly of Roanoke; son, David Keith Calhoun of Jenks, Okla.; two sisters, 
Phyllis Brown of Bartlesville and Anna Lou Turinetti of Tulsa; three 
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Gary R. Bud' Hemrick

   (WHITESBURG, Ga.) Gary R. Bud' Hemrick, 72, of Whitesburg, Ga., died 
Monday, June 18, 2007.
   He was the son of the late Carrie & William Hemrick.
   He is survived by his children, Mary Ellen Davis, Garron Reeves, Michael 
Hemrick and Gary T. Hemrick; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three 
brothers, Jimmy Hemrick, Ray Hemrick and Charlie Hemrick; and a sister, Mary 
Ann Durrough.
   Services were held on, Friday, June 22, at 11 a.m. in McKoon Funeral Home 
Chapel with the Rev. Shane Roberson officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill 
Cemetery.

Marvis Penhale

   (BIG BEAR, Calif.) Marvis P. Penhale, 90, of Big Bear, Calif., died 
Thursday, June 14, 2007, in Big Bear.
   Mrs. Penhale was born in Randolph County, Ala., to the late James C. and 
Irene Payne.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar U. Penhale; and her brother, 
Hermit Payne. She is survived by a son, James E. Penhale; a daughter, Jean 
Bailey; two sisters, Gladys Botts and Ellaree Clark; four granddaughters and 
five great-grandchildren.
   A graveside service was held Friday, June 22, at noon at Elliotsville 
Cemetery. Pallbearers were James E. Penhale, William H. Adam III, James E. 
Adams, Carl R. Adams, James K. Webb and Bob Sears.
