OBITUARIES:

Willie Joe 'Pap' Prothro

   (WEDOWEE) Willie Joe "Pap" Prothro, 54, of Wedowee died Sunday, May 1, 2005, 
at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center, Anniston.
   Services were Tuesday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at Burks Chapel United Methodist 
Church, with the Rev. James Wright officiating.  Interment was in the church 
cemetery.
   Mr. Prothro is survived by his mother, Minnie Prothro of Wedowee; four 
sisters, Mayola Houston, Willie Dean Roundtree and Flora Mae Wright of Wedowee 
and Maudie Brown of Wadley; and one brother, Herman Pearson of Wedowee.
   Mr. Prothro was a member of Burks Chapel UMC.  He was preceded in death by 
his father, Joe D. Prothro; and two sisters, Mary Frances Pickard and Rosie Lee 
Wright.

Olive Precious Cole

   (ROANOKE) Services for Olive Precious Cole, 79, of Roanoke were Tuesday, May 
3, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Center Chapel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jody Overton 
and William Pemberton officiating.  Burial followed at Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mrs. Cole died Saturday, April 30, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include her husband, George Frank Cole of Roanoke; two daughters, 
Patricia Cole of Roanoke and Elizabeth Winburn of Niceville, Fla.; two sons, 
Richard Cole of Gainesville, Ga., and Kenneth Cole of Roanoke; three sisters, 
Emily Knight of Wadley, Pauline Beeker of Melbourne, Fla., and Annette Elliott 
of Five Points; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Scott Winburn, Gerald Knight, Peter Knight, David Rice, 
Israel Henry, Dudley White, Harold Elliott and Mac Holderfield.
   Mrs. Cole was born Nov 1, 1925, daughter of Paul and Ethel Cooper Moore.  
She was a member of Center Chapel Baptist Church and a battre [?] filler with 
Handley Mills.

William Horace McDaniel

   (ROANOKE) Services for William Horace McDaniel, 60, of Roanoke will be 
Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Highway First Congregational Methodist Church, with the 
Rev. Vernon Willis officiating.  Mr. McDaniel will lie in state at the church 
for one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Mr. McDaniel died Monday, May 2, at his home.
   The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Benefield 
Funeral Home in Wedowee.
   Mr. McDaniel is survived by his wife, Berna Hendrix McDaniel; two daughters, 
Karen Nuckolls of Newell and Mandy Farmer of Bowdon, Ga.; two sons, Steve 
McDaniel of Roanoke and Noel McDaniel of Lineville; two sisters, Nancy Hunt and 
Blanch Brown of Roanoke; one brother, Bob McDaniel of Ashburn, Ga.; eight 
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Pallbearers will be Tracy Eason, Charlie Hanner, Alvin Smith, Ray Rogers, 
Maxie Strickland and Jimmy Daniel.
   Mr. McDaniel was born Dec. 1, 1944, son of William Shellie and Laura Jean 
Mulkey McDaniel.  He was a cutter for Bremen Bowdon Investment and Lamar 
Manufacturing and was a member of Highway First Congregational Methodist 
Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Douglas 
McDaniel; and one sister, Peggy Faye McDaniel.

Joe Bob Meadows

   (HEFLIN) Services for Joe Bob Meadows, 69, of Heflin were Monday, May 2, 
2005 at 11 a.m. at Harmony Congregational Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lewis 
Cushing officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Meadows died Thursday, April 28, at Cleburne County Nursing Home.
   Mr. Meadows is survived by three daughters, Lynn Meadows of Dallas, Ga., 
Shelby Kidd of Franklin, Ga., and JoAnn Meadows of Atlanta; two sons, Ricky 
Meadows of Lincolnton and Bobby R. Meadows of Opelika; two stepbrothers, Edward 
and James Meadows of Newell; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Pallbearers were Edward Meadows, Dale Meadows, Pierce Meadows, Wayne 
Meadows, Samuel Meadows and Rance Meadows.
   Mr. Meadows was born March 15, 1936, son of S.E. and Maude Ellen Lovvorn 
Meadows.  He was a mobile home installer.  He was preceded in death by a 
daughter, Ann Meadows.

Norma Sanders Whaley

   (McDONOUGH, Ga.) Norma Sanders Whaley, 66, of McDonough, Ga., died Saturday, 
April 30, 2005.
   She was born in Randolph County, daughter of the late J.T. and Dessa Towler 
Sanders.  She loved her family and was an avid Braves fan.
   She is survived by her husband, James R. Whaley Sr.; four children, Freddie 
Crowell, Jimmy Whaley, Stan Whaley and Kay Rowan; five grandchildren; two 
brothers, Edward Sanders and Johnny Sanders; a sister, Lois Sanders; and a 
sister-in-law.
   Services were at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 2, at The Chapel of Cannon Cleveland 
Funeral Directors, with Pastor William R. Lewis officiating.  Interment was at 
Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to A

Thomas H. 'Bud' Spratlin

   (MARIETTA, Ga.) Thomas H. "Bud" Spratlin, 67, of Marietta, Ga., a native of 
Randolph County, died Sunday, May 1, 2005.
   Mr. Spratlin was a member of the Jonquil Stars Square Dancing Club, CWA, and 
the Telephone Pioneers.  He also worked at Sears part-time following his 
retirement from Southern Bell in 1991.  He was an avid gardener and collected 
John Deere products.
   Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Spratlin of Marietta; three daughters, 
Melanie Ann Leigh of Loganville, Ga., Michele Renee Rabanal of Cumming, Ga., 
and Monica Howard of Dallas, Ga.; his mother, Florence Spratlin of Roanoke; 
five sisters, Gwen Meadows and Sheila Spradlin of Woodland, Barbara Dabbs and 
Rebecca Weathers of Roanoke, and Mary Dabbs of Clarkesville, Ga.; four 
brothers, Gerald Spratlin and Mike Spratlin of Wedowee and Harold Spratlin and 
Ricky Spratlin of Woodland; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Castlellaw Funeral Home 
Jonquil Chapel, Smyrna, Ga., with the Rev. Cecil Dunton and the Rev. Roger 
Murdock officiating.  Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Ala. time Wednesday at 
Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Woodland.

Charles Lindy Kaylor

   (ROANOKE) Services for Charles Lindy Kaylor, 77, of Roanoke were Sunday, May 
1, 2005 at 4 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Keith Benefield 
and Lewis Cushing officiating.  Burial followed at Shiloh Baptist Church 
Cemetery.
   Mr. Kaylor died Friday, April 29, at Central Alabama Veterans Care Systems 
in Alexander City.
   Survivors include his wife, Dera N. Kaylor of Roanoke; one son, Larry Kaylor 
of Roanoke; one daughter, Carolyn Huddleston of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren and 
several great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Tony Kaylor, Michael Kaylor, Brandon Arrington, Mike L. 
Brown, Dewayne Baldwin and Joe Baldwin.
   Mr. Kaylor was born Oct. 20, 1927, son of James Levi and Sara Higgins 
Kaylor.  He had been employed by Douglas and Lomason Auto Body Parts 
Manufacturing, was a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.  He was 
preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Terry Linsey Kaylor and Perry 
Alan Kaylor.

Ruby Lee Hart Ray

   (OHATCHEE) Services for Ruby Lee Hart Ray, 78, of Ohatchee were at 2 p.m. 
Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with the Revs. Joe Jones and 
Jerry Turner officiating.  Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery.
   Mrs. Ray died Saturday, April 30, at Regional Medical Center.
   Survivors include her husband, Charles W. Ray of Ohatchee; three sons, Danny 
Ray of Roanoke, James Knight of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Ken Ray of Wadley; one 
sister, Mergie Fetter; one brother, Marvin Hart; ten grandchildren; ten great-
grandchildren; ten nephews; and six nieces.
   Pallbearers were Scotty Knight, Shane Ray, Chris Ray, Joshua Ray, Thomas 
Knight and Russell Hodges and the honorary pallbearer will be Eddie Kloepfer. 
   Mrs. Ray was a native of Piedmont and a resident of Ohatchee.  She was a 
member of Ohatchee United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by 
her parents John and Lovella Hart.

Orbin Nobles

   (ROCK MILLS) Services for Orbin Nobles, 81, of Rock Mills were Sunday, May 
1, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Foster 
officiating.  Burial followed at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mr. Nobles died Thursday, April 28, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Joyce Kiser of Jacksonville, Fla.; 
one son, Larry Lamar Nobles of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Mildred Drinnon 
of Palmetto, Ga.; one brother, Raymond Lee Nobles of Jacksonville, Fla.; four 
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Nobles was born May 12, 1923, son of Raymond and Bertie Anderson 
Nobles.  He was a member of Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene, a retired truck 
driver for Roadway Express, and a member of #600 Masonic Lodge in Union City, 
Ga.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  Mr. Nobles was preceded 
in death by his wife, Sara Christine Nobles; his parents and two brothers, 
Gordon and Ervin Nobles.

Kermit T. McCain

   (ROANOKE) Services for Kermit T. McCain, 84, of Roanoke were Friday, April 
29, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Caver's Grove Congregational Christian Church with the 
Revs. Clayton Scott and Anthony Herren officiating.  Burial followed in the 
adjoining church cemetery.
   Mr. McCain died Thursday, April 28, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mr. McCain is survived by one son, Tony Ray McCain of Wedowee; six 
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Mike Manning, Bobby Bolt, J.R. Nelson, Rance Meadows and 
Bill Nelson.
   Mr. McCain was born March 16, 1921, the son of Dan and Roxie McManus 
McCain.  He was a member of Caver's Grove Congregational Christian Church and a 
dump truck driver for Randolph County.  Mr. McCain was preceded in death by his 
wife, Eron Campbell McCain; two sisters, Nellie Ruth Holloway and Gladys 
Nelson; one son, Ed McCain; one grandson, Dan McCain; and three brothers, 
Floyd, Charlie Will and Joe Tom McCain.

Charlie N. Bailey

   (MONTGOMERY) Charlie N. Bailey, 83, of Montgomery, formerly of Phenix City, 
died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his home.
   Services were Saturday, April 16, at the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Phenix 
City Chapel, with Ministers L.E. Wishum, Mark Trevathan and Larry Vaughn 
officiating.  Interment with military honors was in Lakeview Memory Gardens.    
Nephews served as pallbearers.
   Mr. Bailey was born Nov 26, 1921 in Randolph County, son of the late Charles 
B. and Martha Adams Bailey.  He was a retired warehouseman with W.C. Bradley 
Co., a member of University Church of Christ in Montgomery and a charter member 
of Phenix City Church of Christ.  Mr. Bailey was a U.S. Army veteran of World 
War II and participated in the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach.  He was 
awarded the Silver Star and was twice awarded the Purple Heart.  He also 
received four battle stars among numerous other awards.
   Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Florence Head Bailey of 
Montgomery; a son, Randall Charles Bailey of Montgomery; one sister, Alma Evans 
of Hogansville, Ga.; one brother, Theodore Bailey of Phenix City; two 
grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

Barbara Ann Sheppard

   (LINEVILLE) Services for Barbara Ann Sheppard, 52, of Lineville were at 1 
p.m. Friday, April 29, 2005, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Clay County 
with Pastor Craig McClure officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery with 
Rest In Peace Funeral Service in charge.
   Ms. Sheppard died Sunday, April 24, at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.
   Survivors include three sons, Marvin Sheppard of Lineville, Kenneth Sheppard 
of Anniston and Tyson Sheppard of Lineville; five sisters, Beverly McRath and 
Amma Haynes McRath of Anniston, Diane Sheppard of Wedowee, Linda Welch and 
Raquel Welch of Lineville; four brothers, Michael Welch, Lewis Welch and Larry 
Welch, all of Anniston and Willie Frank Welch of Lineville; mother, Mavis Welch 
of Barfield; four grandchildren; 14 nephews and four nieces.
   Pallbearers were brothers and nephews.
   Ms. Sheppard was a lifelong resident of Lineville and a member of the 
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her lifelong 
friend, Robert Lee McLemore.

Annie Pearl Mays Wadsworth

   (ROANOKE) Graveside services for Annie Pearl Mays Wadsworth, 90, of Roanoke 
were Friday, April 29, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery with the Rev. 
Bill Dean officiating.
   Mrs. Wadsworth died Tuesday, April 26, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Survivors include one daughter, Betty Wadsworth Doan of Tallahassee, Fla.; 
one son, Ben Awbrey Wadsworth Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; six grandchildren and 
nine great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Clara 
Hughes; and one granddaughter, Katie B. Wadsworth.
   Pallbearers were her grandsons.
   Mrs. Wadsworth was born Jan. 1, 1915, daughter of Willie Franklin and 
Frances Gaither Mays.  She was a member of First Baptist Church and the 
lunchroom supervisor for 27 years at Handley High School.  Mrs. Wadsworth was 
preceded in death by her husband, Ben Awbrey Wadsworth.
   Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to First Baptist Church.

Dura Louise Riddle

   (HEFLIN) Services for Dura Louise Riddle, 59, of Heflin were at 11 a.m. 
Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Pinetucky Baptist in Heflin with the Rev. Randy Morris 
officiating.  Burial was in Pinetucky Cemetery with Dryden Funeral Home in 
charge.  Mrs. Riddle died Saturday, April 30, at Baptist Montclair in 
Birmingham.
   Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Riddle of Heflin and Michell Craft 
of Boaz; one son, Lemuel Riddle of Heflin; four sisters, Dot Smith of Heflin, 
Judy Brown of Woodland, Betty Duncan of Greenville, N.C., and Mary Johnson of 
Wellington; three brothers, Sam Hudgins of Heflin, Horace Hudgins of Ocilla, 
Ga., and Tommy Gill of Moody; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
   Pallbearers were Josh Green, Mike Ferguson, Greg Hudgins, Patrick Hudgins, 
Ray Taylor and Brandon Gill.  Mrs. Riddle was a native and lifelong resident of 
Cleburne County.  She attended the Baptist church.

Willie L. Polk

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Mrs. Willie L. Polk, 95, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, 
April 30, 2005, at Brian Center Nursing Care.
   Mrs. Polk, born Dec. 4, 1909, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of 
the late Sidney S. and Evie Lee Johnson Farr.  She had lived in LaGrange most 
of her life and was a member of Dunson United Methodist Church.  She retired 
from the Dunson Division of West Point Pepperell after 30 years and was a 
member of the Pepperettes.
   Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Tate of LaGrange; two grandchildren; 
four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Fuller of Valley; a brother, John Farr 
of Pulluyup, Wash; a brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and 
nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Frank Polk.
   Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in Shadowlawn Cemetery 
with the Rev. Wayne Hester officiating.

   A ceremony marking the tenth anniversary of the death of Randolph County 
Sheriff's Officer Mark Windsor, who was killed in the line of duty, will be 
Thursday, May 5, at 5 p.m. at Randolph County Courthouse. 

Front page article:  [Windsor, 28, of Roanoke, was killed May 6, 1995 while 
responding to a call about a rowdy party near Woodland. He had pulled off the 
road to wait for his backup, when a drunk driver struck him in the driver's 
side door.  
   Copies of Windsor's F.O.P. Hall of Fame award were shared with his mother, 
Jacklyne, and his widow, June.  His widow also received the Supreme Sacrifice 
Medal.]

OBITUARIES:

Jay Frye

   (LINEVILLE) Graveside services for Jay Frye, 84, of Lineville were Monday, 
May 9, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Clay County Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Dan Keith 
officiating.
   Mr. Frye died Saturday, May 7, at the home of his son in Roanoke after 
losing his battle with cancer.  He was a native of Hamilton but had lived most 
of his life in Lineville.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked for the 
Clay County Road Commission and the City of Lineville until he retired in 1985.
   He is survived by three sons, Ronnie Frye, Raye Frye and Tim Frye of 
Roanoke; two sisters, Betty Short of Birmingham and Louise Greetan of Carlsbad, 
N.M.; two brothers, James Frye of Lineville and Roy Frye of Florida; five 
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Keith Frye, Patrick Frye, Brian Butler, B.G. Harvel, Ronnie 
Frye and Raye Frye.

Albert I. Faulkner

   (HOGANSVILLE, Ga.) Albert I. Faulkner, 82, of Hogansville, Ga., died 
Saturday, May 7, 2005, at his home.
   Mr. Faulkner was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Randolph County, Ala., son of the 
late Francis Marion Faulkner and the late Liddie Overton Faulkner Driver.  A 
resident of Hogansville since 1930, he was an army veteran of World War II and 
was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  He retired from Uniroyal Inc. after 43 
years of service and was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ward Faulkner.
   Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Evans of Newnan, Ga.; one son, A.G. 
Faulkner of Carrollton, Texas; one sister, Pauline Wright of Albertville; one 
brother, Edward Driver of Roanoke; four grandchildren and seven great-
grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many special friends.
   Services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Claude A. 
McKibben and Sons Funeral Home.  The Revs. Frank Powers and Wesley Boatman will 
officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

Mildred Boggs Welborn

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Mildred Boggs Welborn, 87, of LaGrange, Ga., died Thursday, 
May 5, 2005, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Mrs. Welborn was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Rock Mills, daughter of the late 
E.B. Boggs and Mary Harper Boggs.  She was a member of Trinity on the Hill 
United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Welborn worked as an inspector for Callaway 
Mills.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harvey Welborn Sr., and 
one son, William Larry Welborn.
   Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Ann Fuerst of Smyrna, Ga., 
Marjorie F. Pettus of Griffin, Ga., and Vicki Vincent of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 
four sons, James Harvey Welborn Jr. of Opelika, Gerald Raymond Welborn of 
Alexandria, Va., Ronald E. Welborn of LaGrange and Mike Welborn of Marietta, 
Ga.; a brother, Wayne Boggs of LaGrange; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-
grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at Trinity on the Hill United 
Methodist Church with Dr. Colin Dacus officiating.  Burial followed in 
Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Elizabeth Magby Sook' Smith

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Elizabeth Magby Sook Smith of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, 
May 1, 2005, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Mrs. Smith, the daughter of the late William Arthur Magby and Lillie Dean 
Magby was born April 1, 1928, in Roanoke.  She was the youngest of six 
children.  At an early age, Mrs. Smith united with Bethlehem Baptist Church in 
Standing Rock, where she was active in the choir and the Missionary Society 
until her health began to fail.  Mrs. Smith attended Randolph County Training 
School and graduated from Poro Beauty College in Birmingham and for a brief 
time was a beautician.
   Mrs. Smith had no biological children, but Erica Jenkins and LaKristy 
Robinson of LaGrange were her special children.  In addition to them she leaves 
to cherish her memories one sister-in-law, Mrs. Odie S. Magby of Columbus, 
Ohio; five nieces; four nephews; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and 
cousins.
   Services were Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in 
Standing Rock with the Rev. W.H. Trammell officiating.  Burial was in the 
church cemetery.

Fred Butts

   (GOLDVILLE) Graveside services for Mr. Fred Butts, 78, of Goldville were 
Sunday, May 8, 2005, at 3 p.m. at New Salem Cemetery.  The Rev. Tim Whaley 
officiated.
   Mr. Butts died Friday, May 6, at Russell Medical Center.
   He was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Blount County to Claude Lee Butts and Ludie 
Green.  He was a welder with Robinson Foundry for most of his life and was a 
member of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
   He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ellie Ree Butts; three daughters, 
Charlotte Jordan of Wadley, Sheila Hodge of Kellyton and Freda Jorgensen of 
Goldville; four brothers, Jessie Butts of Lakeland, Fla., Millard Butts of 
Tallahassee, Fla., Virgil Butts of Birmingham and Willie B. Butts of Wadley; 
two sisters, Eula Mae Teal of Wadley and Mary Ellen Ross of Florida; and five 
grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Ludie 
Butts; one son, Lawrence B. Butts; and several brothers.

   (ANNISTON) Services for Lillie A. Ogle, 86, of Anniston were at 11 a.m.

   Mrs. Ogle died Saturday, May 7, at NHC.
   Survivors include sons, Dewey Ogle of Weaver, Donald Ogle of Blue Mountain, 
Jerre Ogle of Anniston; brothers, Arlin Ashley of Edwardsville and Ellis Ashley 
of Randolph County; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-
great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

   Mrs. Ogle was a born in Randolph County and lived most of her life in 
Calhoun County.  She retired from Blue Mountain Industries in 1967 and was a 
Salvation Army bell ringer in 2001.  Mrs. Ogle was preceded in death by her 
husband, Bill Ogle.

W. Glynn Bailey

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) W. Glynn Bailey, 77, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, May 8, 
2005, at Florence Hand Nursing Home, LaGrange.
   Mr. Bailey was born Nov. 23, 1927 in Woodland, son of the late Roscoe and 
Nettie Bailey.  He had lived in LaGrange for the past 65 years, moving there 
from Alabama when he was 12 years old.  He was owner and operator of Glynn's 
Record Shop for 47 years.  Mr. Bailey was a member of Western Heights Baptist 
Church and Troup County Senior Center.
   Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Wynette Weathers Bailey of LaGrange; 
one son, Jimmie G. Bailey of St. Simons Island; two grandsons; three sisters, 
Sara Bartlett of Marietta, Ga., Mavis Gilbert of Villa Rica, Ga., and Dorothy 
Mooney of Flowery Branch, Ga.; two brothers, Malcolm Bailey and Elton Bailey of 
Albuquerque, N.M., and several nieces and nephews.
   Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, in Restlawn Memory 
Gardens.  The Rev. O. Max McCord will officiate.  The family will receive 
friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.  Flowers will be 
accepted or those so desiring may contribute to the Troup County Humane Society 
in memory of Mr. Bailey.

   Mrs. Carson died Thursday, May 5, at her residence.

of Wadley and Kathy Scarantino of Douglasville, Ga.; one son, Barry Carson of 
Wadley; four brothers, James, Casper and Ford Brown of Valley and Billy Brown 
of LaFayette; one brother-in-law, Barney Nixon of Columbus, Ga.; 12 
grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Service.  Mrs. Carson was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Frank Carson 
and a son, Michael Harris.

Milton Bruce Chase

   (MARIETTA, Ga.) Milton Bruce Chase, 80, of Marietta, Ga., a native of 
Roanoke died Wednesday, May 4, 2005.
   Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in the Jonquil Chapel of Castellaw 
Funeral Home with the Rev. Scotty Davis officiating.  Burial was in Kennesaw 
Memorial Park with military honors.
   Mr. Chase is survived by his wife, Louise Chase of Marietta; two daughters, 
Robyn Chase of Marietta and Denise Griffith of Woodstock, Ga.; sons, Mike and 
Matt Chase of Marietta; a sister, Dorothy Noles of Montgomery; a brother, Henry 
Ewell Chase of San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren; and several nieces 
and nephews.
   Mr. Chase was a lifelong deacon at King Spring Baptist Church and a Gideon.  
He was a Mason, a Kiwanian, a World War II Navy Underwater Demolition Team 
(frog man) member veteran, receiving the Bronze Star and the Presidential 
Citation.  He had B.A., B.S. and master's degrees from Jacksonville State 
University.  Mr. Chase was a football coach at Jefferson County High School in 
Monticello, Fla., and the first football coach at Crossville High School.  He 
was a school-teacher and also retired from Lockheed.

Oliver 'Evan' Traylor 

   (DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.) Oliver "Evan" Traylor, 79, of Douglasville, Ga. died 
Wednesday, May 4, 2005.
   Mr. Traylor was born in Randolph County and moved to Douglasville at a young 
age.  He was the son of the late Elbert Washie and Bula Henderson Traylor.  He 
was retired as a supervisor in the textile industry.  He was a Baptist and a 
deacon of Star of Bethlehem Church.
   Mr. Traylor is survived by a son, Billy Traylor of Douglasville; three 
daughters, Judy Woody, Kathy New and Annette Thomason of Douglasville; his twin 
sister, Retha Harmon of Cleburne County; eight grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Darcus L. Head Traylor.
   Services were  May 7, at 2 p.m. at Couch-Garner & Cole Funeral Home
in Douglasville, with the Revs. Keith Head and Floyd Hufstetler officiating.  
Interment was in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Billy G. Levens

   (LINCOLN) Funeral services for Billy G. Levens, 65, of Lincoln will be 2 
p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with the Rev. David 
Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow at Levens Baptist Church Cemetery in 
Randolph County.
   Mr. Levens died Monday, May 16, in Wellington.
   Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Joyce of Albertville; one brother, 
Kenneth Levens of Wellington; two sisters, Helen Morrison and Gaynell Coldiron 
of Delta; and several nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers will be nephews.
   Mr. Levens was a native and resident of Alabama and a member of Church of 
God in Lincoln.  He retired from AOD.  Mr. Levens was preceded in death by his 
son, Billy F. Levens, and his daughter, Audrey Lee Levens.

   Mrs. Folsom died Sunday, May 15, at the Long Term Care Hospital of Northeast 
Alabama Regional Medical Center, Anniston.
   Mrs. Folsom is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Minter and Debra 
Lindsay of Lineville and Sandra Laird of Heflin; four sons, Eric Folsom of 
Munford, Steve and Brandon Folsom of Heflin and Jeremy Folsom of Ft. 
Oglethorpe, Tenn.; a sister, Rose Youngblood of Oxford; a brother, Butch Ray of 
Oxford; a half-brother, Terry Wayne Hudgins of Oxford; 14 grandchildren and 
five great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Chris Ray, Jesse Lindsay, Robert Lindsay, Lance Folsom, 
Travis Folsom and Caleb Clemens. 
   Mrs. Folsom was a native of Calhoun County, born Aug. 24, 1941, daughter of 
William Edwin Ray and Nell Kettles Ray.  She had been employed with the 
Lineville Nursing Facility as a CNA and was a member of Open Door Baptist 
Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Folsom; and a 
daughter, Leslie D. Folsom.

   Mrs. Bradshaw died Friday, May 13, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.

Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews.

Camilla Lee Ogletree

   (TALLADEGA) Camilla Lee Ogletree, 96, of Talladega died Saturday, May 14, 
2005 in Talladega.
   Mrs. Ogletree was a native of Clay County who had lived in Roanoke much of 
her life.  She moved to Talladega in 1971 upon retiring from Palm Beach 
Company.  She was a member of Alpine Baptist Church and the adult Sunday school 
class.
   Graveside rites were Monday, May 16 at 1 p.m. at Randolph Memory Gardens, 
with Dr. Larry Morris officiating.

   Surviving are a daughter, Jean O. Chase of Oxford; a sister, Sibyl Morris of

Joseph C. Henderson

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Joseph Clifford Henderson, 80, of LaGrange, Ga., died 
Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mr. Henderson was born April 12, 1925, in Randolph County, son of the late 
James Terrell Henderson and Mattie Lou Moore Henderson.  He lived in LaGrange 
since 1956 and was a member of Living Waters Baptist Church.  He retired from 
the State of Georgia, where he worked as a maintenance foreman in the highway 
department.
   Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ressie Lee Henderson of LaGrange; 
three daughters, Brenda Morman of Cedartown, Ga., Sandra Parr of Shady Dale and 
Gail Neely of LaGrange; a brother, Fletcher Henderson of Dothan; a sister, 
Mavis Stephen of Vero Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; three great-
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda Jean Hardy 

   (LANETT) Linda Jean Hardy, 60, of Lanett died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Lanier 
Memorial Hospital, Valley.  Mrs. Hardy was born in Langdale August 14, 1944.
   Surviving are two sons, Mark Hardy of Lacombe, La., and Chris Hardy of 
Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; her mother, Betty A. Williams of Lanett; a 
sister, Stephanie Williams Parker of Acworth, Ga.; a brother, Michael E. 
Williams of Lanett; seven aunts, including Mattie Ruth Royston and Sara Ellen 
Prather of Roanoke; and numerous cousins.  She was preceded in death by her 
father, Eugene A. Williams.
   Services were at Lanett First Christian Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 
12, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.  The Rev. Howard Merchant officiated.

Jennie Mae Pinkard

   CLEVELAND - The remembrance of life service for Jennie Mae Pinkard, 77, of 
Cleveland were conducted Friday at noon at the Collier-Butler Funeral Home in 
Gadsden with the Rev. Ron Lesley and Pastor Jeremy Lesley officiating.  
Interment followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Double Springs.
   Jennie Mae Pinkard, a resident of Cleveland, died Wednesday evening, May 11, 
in a local hospital.
   Mrs. Pinkard was the daughter of the late Lola Mae McCurrey Haynes and 
Brooks Haynes Sr.  Mrs. Pinkard worked beside her husband as a pastor's wife 
for more than 40 years.  She was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God.
   Survivors include her husband, the Rev. L.R. Pinkard of Cleveland; her 
daughter, Debbie Pinkard Lesley of Cleveland; her grandson; her sisters, Sally 
Argo of Anniston and Rosabell Dennis of Graham; and her brothers, Edward 
Haynes, Vernon Haynes and Chester Haynes, all of Anniston, and William Haynes 
of Gadsden; several nieces and nephews also survive.

   Mrs. House was born in Chambers County Jan. 24, 1918.  She was retired from 
the Playtex Sewing Plant in LaFayette.  She was a member of Sweet Home 
Methodist Church in LaFayette.
   Services were at Sweet Home Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 
with interment in the church cemetery.  The Rev. David Holmes and the Rev. 
Russell Williams officiated.
   Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Bonner of Ashland and Susan Smith of 
Tuscaloosa; one son, John C. House Jr. of Hattiesburg, Miss.; four 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her

Judson Talmadge Cox

   (LAFAYETTE) Judson Talmadge Cox, 88, of LaFayette died Friday, May 13, 2005 
at his home.

Christian Church, with the Revs. Barry Brooks and Al Ruggles officiating.  
Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Cox was born Oct. 6, 1916.  He was an army veteran who served in the 
Pacific Theater in World War II.  He was retired from East Alabama Lumber 
Company and was a 50-year member of Solomon Lodge #74 F&AM and a lifetime 
member of the American Legion.
   Surviving are his wife, Louise Cox of LaFayette; two daughters, Marlene Cox 
Jackson of Ashland and Emily Cox Smith of Opelika; three sons, James Elliott

   (LANETT) Beatrice Newman "Bea" Maddux, 76, of Lanett died Tuesday, May 10, 
2005, at her residence.
   Mrs. Maddux was born in Roanoke on March 27, 1929, daughter of the late 
Dillie Mae Keeble Newman and William Newman.  She was a retired employee of 
West Point Stevens' Shawmut Mill and a member of Shawmut Church of the Nazarene.
   Surviving are a daughter, Rhonda Earl of Lanett; four sons, David Maddux and 
Randall Maddux of Valley, Eugene Maddux of Kingsport, Tenn., and Wayne Maddux 
of Hamilton; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, 
Leroy Newman of Roanoke and Kenneth Newman of Duluth, Ga.  She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Preston Maddux; and her sister, Verbie Brooks.

   (WEDOWEE) Graveside services for James O. (J.O.) Worthy, 86, of Wedowee will 
be Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Mellow Valley Baptist Cemetery, with the 
Rev. Don Paris officiating.
   Mr. Worthy died Sunday, May 22, at Lineville Nursing Facility.  The family 
will receive friends on Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home, 
Wedowee.
   Mr. Worthy is survived by four daughters, Susie Kopp of St. Louis, Mo., 
Anita Buss of Olney, Ill., Marian Hall of Ontario, Calif., and Annie Wojtys of 
South Bend, Ind.; two sons, Billy and Bobby Worthy of Wedowee; one sister, 
Joyce Watson of Orange Park, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.
   Mr. Worthy was born May 7, 1919, son of Lorean and Pearlie Dawkins Worthy.  
He was of the Baptist faith, a self-employed poultry farmer, and a U.S. Navy 
veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Worthy was preceded in 
death by two brothers, Billy Joe Worthy and Henry Alton Worthy.

Avon Jordan Williams

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Avon Jordan Williams, 86, of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, 
May 21, 2005, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mrs. Williams, born Jan. 15, 1919, in Malone, was the daughter of the late 
Charles Webster and Ida Kenady Jordan.  She was raised in Roanoke and had lived 
in LaGrange for 65 years.  She had been a member of LaGrange First United 
Methodist Church for 25 years.  Mrs. Williams was a teacher for LaGrange City 
Schools for 20 years, having taught at Hill Street Junior High School and 
Westside Junior High School.
   Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Fabbri of Hampton, Ga., and Susan 
Harrison of St. Augustine, Fla.; a son, James Pat Williams Jr. of LaGrange; 
eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by 
her husband, James Pate Williams Sr.
   Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, in the chapel of First 
United Methodist Church of LaGrange with Dr. Harold Lawrence and the Rev. Dane 
Wagner officiating.  Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cem[e]tery.

Melvin K. Cox Jr.

   (OXFORD) Services for Melvin K. Cox Jr., 75, of Oxford were at 11 a.m. 
Monday, May 23, 2005, at First Baptist Church Oxford with Dr. Ron Ethridge and 
the Rev. Tim Embry officiating.  Burial was in the Forestlawn Gardens Cemetery.
   Mr. Cox died Friday, May 20, at Regional Medical Center.
   Survivors include his wife, Jewel Cox of Oxford; two sons, Danny Cox of 
Wellington and son, Dr. Don Cox, of Anderson, S.C.; a daughter, Linda Cockrell 
of Wedowee; sister, Barbara St. Jermaine of Anniston; 12 grandchildren and 
three great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Brandon Cockrell, Grant Cockrell, Justin Cox, Nicholas 
Cox, Caleb Cox, Josiah Cox and Lenn Singleton.
   Mr. Cox was a resident of Oxford most of his life.  He was a member of First 
Baptist Church Oxford, where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.  He 
was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Velma Cox Sr.; a brother, Sam 
Cox; a son, Dennis Cox; and granddaughters, Allison Singleton and Dana

   (WADLEY) Agatha Yates, 90, of Wadley died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Clay 
County Hospital, Ashland.
   Services will be Wednesday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist 
Church, Wadley, with the Rev. Cornelius Reese, Elder Thomas Knight and the Rev. 
Tim Heard officiating.  Burial will be in Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church 
Cemetery.
   Survivors include three sons, Beotis Spidell of Bronx, N.Y., Renward Yates 
of Toledo, Ohio, and Ronald Yates of Wadley; two daughters, Dorothy Yates of 
Wadley and Barbara Yates of Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Lavonia Battle of Detroit, 
Mich.; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death 
by her husband, Winston Yates.

Friday, May 20, 2005, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Gadsden.

Christ, Wedowee, with Brother Henry Nelson officiating. Burial will be in 
Stephens Mission Church Cemetery.
   Survivors include four daughters, Lonnie Mae Miller of Gadsden, Annie Mae 
House and Linda Saddler of Cleveland, Ohio, and Alida Stribling of Wedowee; and 
one son John Saddler Jr. of Cleveland.  She was preceded in death by her 
husband, John Saddler.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke, from 10 
a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday.  The body will be placed in the church one hour

Billy Ray Key

   (RANDOLPH COUNTY) Services for Billy Ray Key, 68, a lifelong resident of 
Randolph County, were Monday, May 23,, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral 
Chapel, with the Rev. Billy East officiating.  Burial followed in Union Hill 
Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Key died Saturday, May 21, at Clay County Hospital.
   Mr. Key is survived by five sisters, Nora Craft of Anniston, Mora Humphrey 
of Lineville, Ethel Bean and Betty Hendricks of Huntsville, and Naomia Hill of 
Wedowee; two brothers, Harold Key and Basil Key of Wedowee; and a host of 
nieces, nephews and friends.
   Pallbearers were Timothy Key, Billy Brewer, Lloyd Craft, Terry Richardson, 
Willis Smith and Jeffery Smith.
   Mr. Key was born Jan. 6, 1937, son of William Wesley and Weda Ophelia East 
Key.  He was a member of Union Hill Congregational Methodist Church and a 
machinist at Key's Plating.  Mr. Key is preceded in death by his parents; one 
brother, Lincoln Key; and one sister, Flora Brewer.

Frank Owen Carden

   (ANNISTON) Services for Frank Owen Carden, 81, of Anniston, were Monday at 
11 a.m. at Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel, Anniston, with Rev. Robert Champion and 
the Rev. Bill Gunn officiating. Graveside service was Monday at 3 p.m. at 
Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke.
   Mr. Carden died Saturday in Alexander City.
   Mr. Carden is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Elaine Carden of Anniston; a 
sister, Sarah Dye of Tupelo, Miss.; a brother, Tom Carden of Mt. Olive 
community in Chambers County; a numerous nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Carden was a native of Chambers County, where he lived during his early 
life.  He formerly lived in Shreveport, La., for 35 years and resided in 
Calhoun County the past 14 years.  Mr. Carden retired from-American General 
Insurance Company with over 30 years of service, was a World War II veteran, 
and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church of Anniston.  He was 
preceded in death by his wife, Frances Stephens Carden, his parents, Escar L. 
Carden and Sarah Gross Carden, and a brother, Harold Carden.

Lewis Victor 'Vic' Baldwin

   (ROANOKE) Services for Lewis Victor "Vic" Baldwin, 79, of Roanoke were 
Sunday, May 22, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Highway First Congregational Methodist 
Church, with Bros. Clayton Scott and J.R. Bowen officiating. Burial was in the 
adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Baldwin died Saturday, May 21, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife, Arrie Myrtis Scott Baldwin of Roanoke; 
one daughter-in-law, Sandra Baldwin; two grandchildren; one sister, Linda R. 
Baldwin of Roanoke; and one brother, Mac Baldwin of Roanoke.
   Pallbearers will be members of the New Hope Fire Department.
   Mr. Baldwin was born Nov. 24, 1925, son of Hiram Dewey and Mattie Sue 
Robinson Baldwin. He was a member of Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ, a 
textile worker for Lanett Dye Works and a self-employed farmer. Mr. Baldwin was 
preceded in death by two sons, Steve and Tim Baldwin; one grandson, Steven 
Baldwin; three sisters and two brothers.

Ellie Mae Langley Bailey

   (WOODLAND) Services for Ellie Mae Langley Bailey, 87, of Woodland were 
Sunday, May 22, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Napoleon Church of Christ, with Bros. Terry 
Langley, Ricky Martin and Jeff Thompson officiating.  Burial was in the 
adjoining cemetery.
   Mrs. Bailey died Friday, May 20, at her home.
   Mrs. Bailey is survived by one sister, Mamie Keel of Woodland; several 
brothers and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Mark Johnson, Charles Green, Ryan Prince, Brian Raughton, 
Max Yarbrough and Joe Thompson.  Honorary pallbearers were the men of Napoleon 
Church of Christ.
   Mrs. Bailey was born Sept. 17, 1917, daughter of H. Luther and Nora Bowen 
Langley.  She was a member of the Napoleon Church of Christ and a housewife.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, Uklet Bailey; three brothers, Melvin, 
Nathan and Noah Langley; and five sisters, Udell Scott, Ruthie Hill, Eunie 
Langley, Winnie Langley and Estelle Wilson.  Memorial donations may be made to

George Edward Spradlin

   (WOODLAND) Graveside services for George Edward Spradlin, 50, of Woodland 
were Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Church of Christ Cemetery, 
with Bro. Alan Daniel officiating.
   Mr. Spradlin was born Dec. 12, 1954, son of Horace and Ruth Stewart 
Spradlin. 
He was of the Church of Christ faith and was a self-employed painter.
   Surviving are one daughter, Heather Dewitt of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two 
grandchildren; his mother, Ruth Spradlin of Heflin; two sisters, Terri Short of 
Heflin and Carol Arons of Fayetteville, N.C.; and one brother, David Spradlin 
of Woodland.  Mr. Spradlin was preceded in death by his father and twin 
brothers Larry and Barry Spradlin.
   Pallbearers were Ken Spradlin, Mike Spradlin, Jimmy Lynn Clark, Johnny 
Spradlin, Bobby Crenshaw and Brandon Teague.  Memorial donations may be made to

Elbert Couch

   (TALLADEGA) Services for Elbert "Big 6" Couch, 84, were Saturday, May 21, 
2005, at 2 p.m. at Talladega Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Hazel and the 
Rev. Jackie Bentley officiating.  Burial was at Pine Hill Memorial Park.
   Mr. Couch died May 18 at his residence on Logan Martin Lake.  He was born 
Aug. 10, 1920, in Gadsden to the late Mark and Charlie Foster Couch.
   He was a navy veteran of World War II, seeing action in the Pacific Theater, 
and an army veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He played football for both Auburn 
University and Jacksonville State University.  Between his periods of military 
service, he served as head football coach and taught at Handley High School in 
Roanoke from 1948 to 1951.  He received an M.A. degree from Peabody College in 
Nashville, and from 1954 until 1963, he was the head football coach at Sylvania 
High School, where his teams won several county championships and one state 
title.  From 1963 until 1966, he coached at Etowah County High School.  He 
served as the first director of the Vocational High School in Talladega until 
his retirement in 1982.
   Mr. Couch was active in the Talladega Rotary Club and was named a Paul 
Harris Fellow.  He was selected as an Outstanding Talladegan in 2000 and was a 
member of Southside Baptist Church.  He was inducted into the Etowah County 
Sports Hall of Fame in 1996, the Dekalb County Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and 
the Emma Samson Wall of Fame in 1994.  He served in national guard and reserve 
units and retired in 1986 as a lieutenant colonel with 32 years of service.
   Mr. Couch is survived by his wife, Elaine Couch of Talladega; a daughter, 
Carolyn Hamlin of Talladega; a son-in-law, James E. Couch of Jonesboro, Ark.; 
four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Martha Jo Danehower of 
Gadsden; brothers Jack Couch of Ore City, Texas, and L.B., James and Charlie 
Couch of Gadsden.
   He was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Truitt Couch; a 
stepson, Byron Conner; and brothers Albert and John Couch.

Fannie Elizabeth Scott Prince

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Fannie Elizabeth Scott Prince, 99, of LaGrange, Ga., died at 
her home Tuesday, May 17, 2005.
   Mrs. Prince was born May 28, 1905, in Randolph County, Ala., the daughter of 
the late Charlie Andrew Scott and Lula Anglin Scott. She was a member of Murphy 
Avenue Church of Christ and retired from Callaway Mills.  She was preceded in 
death by her husband of 44 years, James Foster Prince; a daughter, Lura Wilson; 
and a son, Floyd Prince.
   Survivors include her children, Lavelle Parker of Bremen, Ga., Ruth Maharry 
and Alice Thompson of LaGrange and Betty Scott of Round Rock, Texas; five 
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
   Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, at Murphy Avenue Church of 
Christ with minister Don Jackson and minister Rick Martin officiating.  Burial 
followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Neil Smith Jr.

   (LANETT) Neil Smith Jr., 74, of Lanett died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at his 
residence.
   Funeral services were Saturday, May 21, at 2 p.m. EDT at Mt. Nebo Missionary 
Baptist Church in Cusseta with the Rev. Mario F. McDaniel, eulogist, and the 
Revs. Willie Patterson, Josephus Cofield and Arthur Thomas officiating.  Burial 
was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Sara Charles Hall Vines Smith of Lanett; 
four children, Gwendolyn Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Neil Smith III of Erlanger, 
Ky., Vernon Avery of Houston, Texas, and Valerie Lorraine Smith of Auburn; two 
stepchildren, Wilda Yvonne Vines Gunn of Parker, Colo., and the Rev. Warren 
Elliott Vines Sr. of Lanett; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 
five sisters, Mildred Brown of Cleveland, Everlena Hart and Beulah Davis of 
Chattanooga, Tenn., Mary Lee Thompson and Leola Thompson of LaGrange; two 
brothers, Timothy Wilder of Roanoke and Elmer Wilder of LaGrange; two sisters-
in-law; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
   Mr. Smith was born in Chambers County on Feb. 27, 1931.  He was a member of 
Canaan Baptist Church in the Welch community, where he served on the usher 
board.  During his early adult years, he worked for the railroad and West Point 
Manufacturing Company.  Mr. Smith retired from WestPoint Pepperell with more 
than 20 years of service.  His early child-hood beginnings of cattle farming 
was and continued to be his passion and hobby throughout life until his health 
began to decline.  He was the son of the late Neil Smith Sr. and Lillie Mae 
Hill.  Three brothers preceded him in death, one of which was a twin who died 
at birth, Will and John Eddie.

   (PORTLAND, Ore.) Roger Carl Williams, 51, of Portland, Ore., formerly of 
Wedowee, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at his residence.

Christ, Wedowee, with Elder Thomas Knight and Minister Marvin Jones 
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include his wife, Mary Williams of Portland; one brother, Henry 
Williams of Tampa, Fla.; and two sisters, Gloria Bledsoe and Bobbie Jean Berry 
of Wedowee.  He was preceded in death by his parents. Richard Williams and 
Christine Knight Williams.

Randy W. Senn

   (TROY) Randy W. Senn, 40, of Troy died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at University 
of Alabama Birmingham Hospital.
   Services were at Dillard Funeral Home on Friday, May 20, at 2 p.m., with the 
Rev. Christine Gassett and Shirley Ellis officiating.  Burial was at Shady 
Grove Cemetery. His nephews and brother-in-law served as pallbearers.
   Surviving are his wife, Wanda Senn of Troy; a son, Tyler Senn of Troy; his 
mother, Vina Mae Senn of Brundidge; four brothers, Wayne Senn of Valley, Freddy 
Senn of Wadley, Chris Senn of Calera and Gary Senn of Brundidge; a sister, 
Kathy Outlaw of Brundidge; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-
nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Gaston Senn.

   (CARSON CITY, Calif.) Ruthie James, 86, of Carson City, Calif., a native of

   Surviving are two daughters, Gwendolyn Boykin of Las Vegas, Nev., and Joyce

Wadley; and two sisters, Louise Veal of Dayton, Ohio, and Mildred Traylor of 
Columbus, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James; and a 
son, Jerry James.

James Edward Siggers

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) James Edward Siggers, 69, of LaGrange, Ga., died Wednesday, 
May 18, 2005, at his residence.
   Mr. Siggers was born March 28, 1936, in Roanoke, son of the late John Clyde 
Siggers and Sara Frances Cummings Siggers.  He was a retired driver for Old 
Dominion Freight Company and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.  He 
was a skilled woodworker and an avid camper.  Mr. Siggers was preceded in death 
by a son, Randy Siggers; a stepdaughter, Lisa Ware McDaniel; four brothers and 
two sisters.
   Survivors include his wife, Brenda Kay Green Siggers; a daughter, Gail 
Whatley; a stepson, Dave Ware, all of LaGrange; three sisters, Willie Mae 
Melton of LaGrange, Lou L. Davis of Trussville and Ioan Greene of Roanoke; a 
brother, J.C. Siggers of Danville, Va.; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; 
and several nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Bethel United Methodist 
Church with the Rev. Jeff Howard officiating.  Entombment followed in 
Shadowlawn Mausoleum.

Kenneth Alton Voss

   (MARIETTA, Ga.) Kenneth Alton Voss, 32, of Marietta, Ga., died Monday, May 
23, 2005, after a long battle with cancer.
   Ken graduated from the University of Alabama and obtained a master's degree 
from Georgia Tech.  He was employed by Cingular Wireless and attended Mt. Paran 
North Church of God.
   He is survived by his wife, Robin Colston Voss; a son, Joshua Alton Voss; 
his parents, Frank and Wanda Voss; and a sister, Angela Pontius.
   Services will be Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at Canton Hill Chapel, 
Marietta, with the Revs. Alan Mathura, Robert Gruver and Lionel Gruver 
officiating.  Burial will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park.  The family will 
receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wednesday.  Mrs. Webb died Monday, May 23, at Columbus Medical Center, 
Columbus, Ga.  Survivors include two sisters, Robbie Faulkner of Smiths and 
Ruby Hill of Lanett; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Webb was born April 18, 1918, daughter of Fountain and Cardie Jane 
McCollough Breed.  She was a homemaker and a member of Roanoke Church of 
Christ.  Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Webb; and four 
brothers, R.W. Breed, Howard Breed, Amos Breed and Tom Breed.  Flowers will be
