OBITUARIES:

Dr. Chester B. Primm
  (ROANOKE) Services for Dr. Chester B. Primm, 85, of Roanoke, will be 
Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Roanoke Church of Christ, with Bro. 
Gerald Romine and Bro. Sam Carpenter officiating.  Burial will follow at 
Randolph Memory Gardens.
   The family will receive friends at Roanoke Church of Christ from 10 a.m. to 
8 p.m. on Friday.
   Dr. Primm died Thursday, Feb. 24, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   Survivors include one daughter, Susan Farris of Nashville, Tenn.; one son, 
Tommy Primm of Brentwood, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Jonathan Farris, Glenn Carpenter, Bill Caypless, Stanley 
Cofield, Bruce Davis, Bryan Kirby, Paul Romine, Roy Beenett and Johnny 
Wallace.  Honorary pallbearers will be the men and women of Roanoke Church of 
Christ and past and present staff of Randolph County Hospital.
   Dr. Primm was born Jan. 11, 1920, son of James Cevere and Lou Ethel 
McPherson Primm.  He was a member of Roanoke Church of Christ, which he served 
as an elder for many years, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during 
World War II.  Dr. Primm was a graduate of Walker College, attended Samford 
University, and graduated from Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham.  He 
did his residency at Erlanger Hospital and at Campbell's Clinic Hospital in 
Chattanooga.  He began his medical practice May 1, 1955, at the Knight 
Sanatorium in Roanoke and joined the medical staff at Randolph County Hospital 
in 1957.  He and Mrs. Primm were avid Band Boosters for the Handley High School 
Band. Dr. Primm retired after 42 years of service to the citizens of Randolph 
County and surrounding areas.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Faye 
Nelson Primm.

Faye Cobb

   (JACKSON'S GAP) Funeral services for Faye Cobb, 71, of Jackson's Gap will be 
at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home.  The Rev. 
James Burkhalter will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Tallapoosa County 
Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at 
Heritage Chapel Funeral Home.
   Mrs. Cobb died Sunday, Feb. 27, at her residence.  She was born Nov. 29, 
1933, in Randolph County to Louie Bozeman and Katie Young.  She worked as a 
winder in the textile industry for Russell Mills for most of her life and was a 
member of the Revival Center Church.
   She is survived by one son Larry Hudson and wife Mary of Jackson's Gap; two 
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her parents Louie and Katie Bozeman; her 
husband, Houston Cobb; and one brother, James Bozeman.

Evelyn Elizabeth Williams

   (ROANOKE) Memorial services for Evelyn Elizabeth Williams, 90, of Roanoke, 
formerly of Elkton, Ky., will be Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Roanoke 
Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Wally Rezendes officiating.
   The family will receive friends at the home of James Williams, 175 Pool 
Street, from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday and at Roanoke Church of the Nazarene from 1 
to 2 p.m. on Monday.
   Mrs. Williams died Friday, Feb. 25, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ruth Huntley of Cooskia, Idaho; two 
sons, James Williams of Roanoke and Harvey J. Williams of Enterprise; 12 
grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven step-
great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-
grandchildren.
   Mrs. Williams was born Dec. 24, 1914, daughter of John James and Mary Lee 
Beals.  She was a member of Roanoke Church of the Nazarene.  She was preceded 
in death by her husband, Harvey Jackson Williams Sr.

Howard E. Poole Sr.

   (OAK PARK, Mich.) Howard E. Poole Sr., 75, of Oak Park, Mich., died Jan. 22, 
2005.
   Mr. Poole was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Randolph County, Ala., to William Poole 
and Mary Ola Tucker.
   He leaves behind his wife, Angela A. Poole of Oak Park; nine children, 
Deborah Merriweather of Detroit, Mich., Karen Garner and Howard Poole Jr. of 
Wilmington, N.C., Kenneth Poole of Atlanta, Bernard Poole of Laurenburg, N.C., 
Howard McFarlin of Roanoke and Charlie B. Bryant of Vaccaville, Calif.; two 
stepchildren, Anthony Tucker of Oak Park and Robin Elaine Tucker of Detroit; 
two sisters, Margaret Smith of Detroit and Ethel Higgins of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 
and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
   Services were held Jan. 27 at Swanson Funeral Home, Detroit, with interment 
in Detroit Memorial Park West.

Vera Mae Patton

   (FAIRFAX) Vera Mae Patton, 99, of Fairfax died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at 
Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   Mrs. Patton was born in Chambers County July 29, 1905, daughter of the late 
Dora Alice Brown Osborne and William Robert Osborne.  She was a lifelong 
resident of Chambers County and a retired employee of West Point Pepperell with 
more than 41 years of service.  She was a member of Fairfax First Christian 
Church, W.M.U. and Ladies Sunday School Class.  She was preceded in death by 
her husband, Doyce C. Patton.
   Graveside services were at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, at Fairfax 
Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Rice officiating.
   The family asks that any memorial donations be made to Fairfax First 
Christian Church.

Jackie Pike Hill

   (ROANOKE) Services for Jackie Pike Hill, 61, of Roanoke will be Wednesday, 
March 2, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, Roanoke, with the Rev. 
Keith Benefield officiating.  Burial will follow at Wehadkee Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on 
Tuesday.
   Mrs. Hill died Monday, Feb. 28, at her residence.
   Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Brown of Rock Mills and Sonya 
Blackmon of Lineville; one son, James Phillip Hill of Sylacauga; three sisters, 
Sue Smith of Fitzgerald, Ga., Vera Whatley of LaGrange, Ga., and Brenda Farrow 
of Lanett; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews.
   Pallbearers will be Timothy Oats, Randy Slaughter, Ray Blackmon, Roy Glass, 
Russ Pilgrim, Tony Hill and Michael Kirby.
   Mrs. Hill was born Jan. 15, 1944, daughter of Thomas B. and Sallie Eaton 
Pike.  She was a member of Midway Full Gospel Church and a homemaker.  Mrs. 
Hill was preceded in death by her husband, James Alvin Hill.

Michael Wayne Alsobrook

   (DALTON, Ga.) Michael Wayne Alsobrook, 53, of Dalton. Ga., died Saturday, 
Feb. 26, 2005, in Resaca, Ga.
   Mr. Alsobrook was born Aug. 4, 1951, in LaGrange, Ga.  He was a U.S. Marine 
Corps veteran of the Vietnam era.  He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Elm 
City Lodge #544 F&AM, and the Scottish Rite, 32nd degree.  Mr. Alsobrook was an 
electrician and owned and operated Electrical Service Company.  He was preceded 
in death by his father, James Robert Alsobrook.
   Survivors include three daughters, Leslie Alsobrook Sebaugh of LaGrange, 
Ashley Diane Alsobrook of Birmingham, and Emily Lauren Alsobrook of Dalton; a 
son, Stephen Wayne Alsobrook of Dalton; two grandchildren; his mother and 
stepfather, Katherine and Bill Parkerson of LaGrange; a sister, Pat Thompson of 
LaGrange; a brother, Winston Alsobrook of Hogansville; step-sisters, Karen 
Anderson of Eufaula and June Parkerson of Newnan; a step-brother, Norman 
Parkerson of LaGrange; a niece; two nephews; and five great-nieces and nephews.
   Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Unity Baptist Church, 
with the Rev. Bobby Robinson and the Rev Marc Eichelberger officiating.  Burial 
will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
   A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Rocky Face 
Baptist Church in Rocky Face, Ga.
   Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Children's 
Healthcare of Atlanta in memory of Mr. Alsobrook.

Elnora Beam Battles

   (ROANOKE) Elnora Beam Battles, 85, of Roanoke, formally of Rome, Ga., died 
Friday, February 18, 2005, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mrs. Battles was born in Floyd County, Ga., on February 7, 1920, daughter of 
the late John William Beam and the late Annie Bell Lemming Beam.  She was a 
homemaker and a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in Rome.  Mrs. 
Battles was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Battles Sr. on April 29, 
1999; three sisters, Ruby Chambers, Mrs. Buford Garner and Olivia Chumbley; and 
two brothers, Henry Beam and Sherman Beam.
   Survivors include a son, Carl Battles Jr. of Wedowee; two grandchildren; 
four great-granddaughters: two sisters, Josephine Evans of Silver Creek, Ga., 
and Mablene Jenkins of Trion, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Battles were Monday, Feb. 21, in Rome with the 
Rev. Floyd Battles Sr. and Dr. Dan Armistead officiating.
   Pallbearers were Jeff Battles, Ronnie Bragg, Benny Dukes, Turner Evans, Bill 
Everett and Steve Holbrook.  Interment followed in East View Cemetery, Rome.

Gladys Sendy Cosper


   (RANBURNE) Services for Gladys Sendy Cosper, 87, of Ranburne, will be 
Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at 1 p.m. CST at Goldridge Baptist Church with the Rev. 
Bobby Garner and Rev. Ken Baldwin officiating.  Burial will be in Goldridge 
Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 4-8 CST Monday at Dryden Funeral 
Home in Heflin.
   Mrs. Cosper died Saturday at Carroll Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
   Survivors include a daughter, Laura Gunnells, and her husband Virgil, of 
Ranburne; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Brandon Stitt, Kelly Harper, Fred Lovvorn, Paul Hosey, 
Tony McManus and Gary McManus.
   Mrs. Cosper was a native of Randolph County and lived in Cleburne County for 
most of her life.  She was a homemaker and a member of Goldridge Baptist 
Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Cosper.

Jerri Anderson Harrington

   (WOODLAND) Memorial services for Jerri Anderson Harrington, 49, of Woodland 
will be Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at noon at 5689 County Road 51, Newell, with the 
Rev. Paul Widener officiating.  The family will receive friends there just 
prior to the service on Tuesday.
   Mrs. Harrington died Saturday, Feb. 26, at Emory University Hospital in 
Atlanta.
   Survivors include her husband, Phenix Harrington of Woodland; a 
stepdaughter, Christy Heard of Woodland; two stepsons, Andy Harrington of 
Woodland and Eddie Harrington of Newell; a brother, Freddy Anderson of Indiana; 
and seven grandchildren.
   Mrs. Harrington was a native of Indiana, born June 22, 1955, daughter of 
Clifford and June Anderson.  She was employed, with Traylor Nursing Home in 
Roanoke and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Roanoke.  She 
was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sally Anderson.

Betty Lou Lobe Foster

   (CLARKESVILLE, Ga.) Betty Lou Lobe Foster, 73, of Clarkesville, Ga. died 
Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 at Limestone Heritage Long Term Care of Gainesville, Ga. 
following a period of declining health.
   Mrs. Foster was born in Cashmere, Wash., daughter of the late Arthur Melvin 
Lobe and the late Marie Loeffelbein Lobe Milbrath.  Mrs. Foster was formerly 
married to Valdon Jasper Foster and was the mother of six children.  She 
attended Deaconess School of Nursing in Wenatchee, Wash. and had a career in 
retail management.  She was a member of Houston Avenue Christian Church in 
Macon, Ga.
   Survivors include four daughters, Anita Marie Mauldin of Wedowee, Karen 
Elizabeth Cooper of Sautee, Ga., Patricia LeAnn Cruse of Griffin, Ga., and Teri 
Annette Newsome of Cleveland, Ga.; one son, Valdon (Buddy) Arthur Foster of 
Woodland; a brother, Arthur Tobias Lobe of Snohomish, Wash.; 18 grandchildren 
and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diann 
Carol Foster.
   Graveside services were Sunday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park 
Cemetery in Macon, Ga.

Vennie C. Beard

   (CHANTILLY, Va.) Vennie C. Beard, 83, of Chantilly, Va., formerly of 
Waverly, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at George Washington University 
Hospital, Washington, D.C.
   A memorial service will be held at Vines Funeral Home Chapel, LaFayette, on 
Saturday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Gary Dixon and the Rev. Ed Vines 
officiating.
   Born Sept. 29, 1921, in Chambers County, Mrs. Beard was the 13th of 15 
children born to the late Sam and Ellen Matthews.  She joined Mt. Calvary 
Baptist Church, LaFayette, at an early age.  After moving to Chantilly, Va., 
she moved her membership to Chantilly Baptist Church, where she served as 
chairperson of the deaconess board and sang in the choir.
   Surviving are her daughter, Shirley O. Nelson; two grand-children; two great-
grandchildren; four sisters, Rissellor Matthews Williams of Birmingham, Fannie 
Pearl Woodall of Roanoke, Mae Lizzie Hardy of Opelika and Mary Ellen Matthews 
of Camp Hill; two brothers, Sam Matthews Jr. of Chambers County and Brice 
Matthews of Roanoke; 68 nieces and nephews, many cousins and other relatives.

Charlie F. House

   (LANETT) Charlie F. House, 86, of Lanett died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at 
his residence.
   Memorial graveside services will be Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. EST at 
Shawmut Cemetery with the Revs. Albert Thornton and Jim Luttrell officiating.
   Mr. House is survived by five children, Charlie House Jr. of Lick Skillet, 
Ga., Bud House of Valley, Bobby House of Lanett, Becky Tolar of Dothan and Lucy 
Simmons of Fredonia; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special 
niece, Jan House Anderson.
   Born April 7, 1918, in Roanoke, Mr. House was the son of the late Jane McKay 
House and Ralph E. House.  He loved the Lord and was a faithful servant.  Mr. 
House enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting antique cars and 
woodworking, and he always wanted to be helpful to others.  He was a veteran of 
World War II and was the owner of the House Plumbing Company.  Mr. House was a 
blessing to all who knew him.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Claire 
House; his grandson, Josh House; and his brother, Ralph House Jr.
   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice, the 
Gideons or to the Lanett Community Chapel Church of God in his memory.
   The family will receive friends Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the 
Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Mildred L. Perry

   (WADLEY) Services for Mildred L. Perry, 88, of Wadley will be Friday, Feb. 
25, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Don Quick, 
Ricky Cummings and Tim Whaley officiating.  Burial will follow at Midway 
Methodist Church Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. 
on Thursday.
   Mrs. Perry died Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include three sons, James T. Perry of Daviston and William D. 
Perry and John Lane Perry of Roanoke; one sister, Sue Gibson of Wadley; six 
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be her nephews.
   Mrs. Perry was born June 2, 1916, daughter of Jefferson Davis and Emma Pearl 
Dewberry Lane.  She was a member of Radney's Chapel Methodist Church and owned 
and operated a general merchandise store.  Mrs. Perry was preceded in death by 
her husband, Truman S. Perry.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be 
made to Radney's Chapel Methodist Church.
   Pallbearers will be Chad Perry, Dan Gibson, Bill Lane, David Tidwell, 
Jerrell Hodges and Lane Perry.  Honorary pall-bearers will be David Harmon, 
Darryl Harmon, Waymon Hodges, Jerry Stephens and John Graves.

Lamar Wadsworth

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Lamar Wadsworth of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 
2005, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Mr. Wadsworth was born March 13, 1928, in LaGrange and was the son of the 
late Lawrence W. Wadsworth and Mary Salmon Wadsworth.  He lived in LaGrange all 
his life and was a graduate of LaGrange High School and attended Perry Business 
School and West Georgia Technical Institute. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 
and the Georgia National Guard.  Mr. Wadsworth was a retired manager of the Eli 
Witt Company and owner of Wadsworth Vending Company.  He was a member of First 
United Methodist Church, Highland Country Club, Academy of Model Aeronautics, 
the USTA and the Dulcimer Troopers.  He was an avid tennis player.  He was 
preceded in death by his twin brother, Leroy Wadsworth.
   Survivors include his wife, Jennie M. Wadsworth; two sons, Vance D. 
Wadsworth of Bradenton, Fla., and Michael L. Wadsworth of Ashland; two 
grandsons; three sisters, Betty Jo Alger of LaGrange, Bobbie Benefield of 
Roanoke and Linda Giles of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Bill Wadsworth of 
Columbus and Larry Wadsworth of LaGrange; a sister-in-law; and several nieces 
and nephews.
   A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at First United 
Methodist Church with the Rev. Dane Wagner and Dr. Don Jolly officiating.  A 
private interment will be held in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
   The family respectfully requests that all flowers be omitted, and those 
desiring may make contributions to First United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund 
in memory of Mr. Wadsworth.

Girleaner Hudson Wright

   (ROANOKE) Girleaner Hudson Wright, 58, of Roanoke died Saturday, March 5, 
2005, at Randolph Medical Center in Roanoke.
   Mrs. Wright was a native of Baxley, Ga.  For more than 20 years, she was 
employed as a home health aide with the Randolph County Home Health division of 
the Randolph County Health Department.  She was a dedicated member of Abundant 
Life Christian Church.
   She is survived by four sons, Master Sgt. Johnathan Maurice Wright and 
Johann Strauss Wright of San Antonio, Texas, Willie Earl Wright Jr. of Camden, 
Ark., and Dedrick Wright of Atlanta, Ga.; nine grandchildren; four brothers, 
Ulysess Hudson of Fayetteville, N.C., Early Lee Hudson of Baxley, Henry Hudson 
Jr. of Atlanta and Harold Hudson Sr. of Buffalo, N.Y.; four sisters, Rose Ann 
Hudson of Chicago, Ill., Shirley Hudson Harris and Annette Hudson of Baxley and 
Elder Lillian Hudson of Atlanta.
   Services will be Friday, March 11, at 3 p.m. EST at First African Baptist 
Church in Baxley.

   (ROANOKE) Rocelius Allen Sr., 72, of Roanoke died Monday, March 7, 2005, at 
East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
   Services will be at noon on Saturday, March 12, at First United Methodist 
Church, Roanoke, with the Rev. O'Neil Ridgeway officiating.  Burial will be in 
Rocky Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Public viewing will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke, from 10 
a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday.  The body will be placed in the church one hour 
before services.  The family is receiving visitors and friends at the residence 
of Vanessa Carlisle, 623 West Point St., Roanoke.
   Rev. Allen is survived by former wives Luree Woodgett Allen of Roanoke and 
Loretta Allen of LaFayette; seven sons, Stanley Allen, Rocelius Allen Jr. and

   (WOODLAND) Services for Beatrice Jones Bailey, 76, of Woodland were Monday,

   Mrs. Bailey died Saturday, March 5, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband, R.Z. Bailey of Woodland; one son, 
Ronnie Bailey of Woodland; two grandchildren; three sisters, Pearlie Davis of 
Shawmut, Hazel Williams of Roanoke and Faye Mapp of Franklin, Ga.; and one 
brother, Roosevelt Jones of LaGrange, Ga.
   Pallbearers were J.R. Fincher, John Fincher, Jack Johnson, Brad Johnson, 
Russell Bailey, Greg Almond, Sid Norred and Jack Gross.
   Mrs. Bailey was a native of Randolph County, born July 3, 1928, daughter of 
Sam and Minnie Bolt Jones.  She was a member of Mt. Carmel Church of Christ and 
a retired machine operator for Palm Beach Company.  She was preceded in death 
by her parents; one son, Samuel Bud Bailey; one grandchild, James Michael 
Bailey; one brother, Sammy Jones; and one sister, Daisy Gross.

   (GARY, Ind.) Mae Emma Sims, 62, of Gary, Ind., died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, 
at St. Mary and Hobart Hospital, Hobart, Ind.
   Services were Saturday, March 5, at 1 p.m. at Canaan "Shining Light" Baptist 
Church, Wedowee, with the Rev. A.J. Sims officiating.  Burial will be in the 
church cemetery.
   Survivors include her husband, Grady Sims of Gary; a daughter, Myra Staples 
of Hazel Crest, Ill.; two sons, Earl Sims of Gary and Eddie Sims of 
Indianapolis, Ind.; and four brothers, James Molden of Bowdon, Ga., Frank 
Molden and Bennie Ray Molden of Atlanta, and John Molden of Cincinnati, Ohio.  
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Molden.

Christenelia I. Jairrels

   (LANETT) Christenelia I. Jairrels, 80, of Lanett died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, 
at her residence.
   Funeral services were March 5, at noon CST at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in 
Roanoke with the Revs. Robert L. Heflin, pastor, Louis Upshaw and Calvin 
Trammell officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.
   Miss Jairrels is survived by two aunts, Leah E. Nolen of Lanett and Lavonia 
Booker of Lanett, two uncles, O'Neal Williams and Abraham Williams, both of 
Cincinnati, Ohio; two stepsisters, Mattie Bailey Jones and the Rev. Wilby 
Thomas, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; one stepbrother, Alvin Bailey of Fort 
Lauderdale; a devoted cousin and caregiver, Clora Davis and Demarias Booker of 
Lanett, and a host of stepnieces, nephews, cousins and several devoted friends.
   Mrs. Jairrels was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Randolph County.  She was a member 
of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Roanoke.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Elton Ertis Boyd, 59, of Roanoke were Friday, March

   Mr. Boyd died Tuesday, March 1, at University of Alabama Hospital, 
Birmingham.
   Survivors include his wife, Faye Kelley Boyd of Roanoke; two sons, Thad 
Wayne Boyd of Wedowee and Randall Ertis Boyd of Newell; four sisters, Janice 
Bentley of Bowdon, Ga., Linda Kirby and Judy Smith of Roanoke and Jane Whaley 
of Wedowee; one brother, Darrel Boyd of Wedowee; three stepchildren, Alecia 
Taylor of Guntersville, Rodney Hand of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Kevin Hand of 
Brooklyn, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Jason Boyd, Shane Strain, Dusty Taylor, Ricky Whaley, Mike 
McCain and Junior McCain.
   Mr. Boyd was born April 5, 1945, son of John Dallas and Anna Bell McCain 
Boyd.  He was a member of Cavers Grove Baptist Church and a retired gas fitter 
for the Roanoke Utilities Board.

   (OPELIKA) Services for Annie Stillwell Miller, 83, of Opelika, formerly of 
Roanoke, will be Thursday, March 10, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral 
Chapel, Roanoke, with the Rev. Henry Sheppard officiating.  Burial will follow 
at Potash Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on 
Wednesday.
   Mrs. Miller died Tuesday, March 8, at Care Center of Opelika.
   Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Miller of Opelika; two sisters, 
Myrtle Brand of Rock Mills and Myrtice DeSear of Braton, Fla.; and one 
grandchild.
   Mrs. Miller was born April 3, 1921, daughter of Henry and Lula Thomas 
Stillwell.  She was of the Church of God faith and had been a textile worker 
for Handley Mills.  Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar 
Thomas Miller.

   (BESSEMER) Graveside services for Estelle Bain Owen, 77, of Bessemer were at

   Mrs. Owen died Monday, Feb. 28, at The Oaks on Parkwood in Bessemer.
   Survivors include a daughter Sandee Owen Coker of Birmingham; three sons, 
Steven Lee Owen of Huntsville, Mark Randall Owen of Sayre, Pa., and James E. 
Owen Jr. of Atlanta; a sister, Mary Jim Bain of Anniston; nine grandchildren; 
two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers were Don Bain, Marty Bain, Carl Bain, John Bain, Ron Bain, Lynn 
Bain, Benjamin Owen and James E. Owen III.  Honorary pallbearers are Matthew 
Owen, Casey Owen, Cody Owen and Jesse Coker.
   Mrs. Owen was a native of Randolph County and a member of the First Baptist 
Church of Phenix City.  Mrs. Owen spent her lifetime sharing with others her 
joy and passion for learning through her work as a teacher and librarian, 
retiring in 1989 after 39 years of service.  She was the wife of the late Dr. 
James E. Owen.

Sara Embrey Waldroup

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Sara Embrey Waldroup, 79, of LaGrange, Ga., died Wednesday, 
March 2, 2005, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Mrs. Waldroup, born June 16, 1925, in Randolph County, Ala., was the 
daughter of the late Ben and Doshie Embrey.  She had lived in LaGrange most of 
her life and was a member of Gray Hill Baptist Church.
   Survivors include a son, Larry Waldroup of LaGrange; 10 grandchildren, 17 
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Mitchell of West Point, Ga., and Helen 
Nguyen of Franklin, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in 
death by her husband, John L. Waldroup; four sons, Marvin, David, John and 
James Waldroup; two grandchildren, Lynn Waldroup and Donald "Bubba" Waldroup.
   Funeral services were Friday, March 4, at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with 
the Rev. Charles Greathouse officiating.  Burial was in Gray Hill Baptist

   Mrs. Whaley was born April 14, 1930, daughter of James Allen and Kathryn

bookkeeper for Piggly Wiggly of Roanoke and Canal Industries.  Mrs. Whaley was 
preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Whaley; and one grandson, Christopher

Genel Railey

   (WADLEY) Funeral services for Genel Railey, 87, of Wadley, were Tuesday, 
March 15, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church (Motley) with the Rev. Zenus 
Windsor officiating.  Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mrs. Railey died Sunday, March 13, at Clay County Hospital.
   She was a native of Clay County, but moved to Randolph County in 1932.  She 
retired from Clegg's Manufacturing after 36 years and was a member of Union 
Baptist Church in the Motley community.
   She is survived by four sisters, Avis Rice of Lanett, Annie Maron of 
Langdale, Jean Rice of Opelika and Geraldine Weldon of Wadley; and a host of 
nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Railey, 
and son, Samuel Thomas Railey.
   Pallbearers were Rodney Railey, Rick Bailey, Roger Coker, Garon Tidwell, 
Hershel Railey and Terry Williams.

Thornton Murphy.  She was a member of Midway Methodist Church and had been a

Roy 'Odell' Ozley

   (PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla.) Roy "Odell" Ozley, 65, of Panama City Beach died 
unexpectedly after a short illness on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at a local 
hospital.
   Mr. Ozley was born May 9, 1941, in LaFayette.  He was retired from Southern 
Company Services, Birmingham.
   Mr. Ozley is survived by his wife, Nina Beck Ozley; a son, John "Beck" 
Ozley; a daughter Nina "Taylor" Ozley Krishack; and one grandson; all of Panama 
City Beach; a brother, John H. Ozley of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Roanoke; 
two nieces and one nephew.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John 
Houston and Sally Ozley of LaFayette; and his sister, Sybel Janell Ozley 
Brazell of Greenville.
   Services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 14, at Ridouts Valley Chapel, 
Homewood, with interment at Forest Hills Cemetery, Birmingham.

   (VALLEY) Herbert Hoover Moncus, 75, of Valley died Saturday, March 12, 2005, 
at his residence.

Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
   Mr. Moncus is survived by his wife, Kathaleen Hunt Moncus; one brother,

   Mr. Moncus was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Wadley.  He was a member of Mt. Olive 
Baptist Church in Wadley.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy

of Lineville; two sisters, Marie Stidham of Lakeland, Fla., and Pearl Palmer of 
New Orleans; two brothers, Charles Mitchell of Jemison and Junior "Legs" 
Mitchell of Clanton; seven grandchildren and 13 grandchildren.

retired elementary school teacher of 44 years in Alabama and Georgia, a member 
of the American Legion auxiliary and Joy Club of First Baptist Church.  She 
traveled extensively touring all 50 states.         Mrs. Bartlett was preceded 
in death by her husband, Wayne Bartlett.

with the Rev. Mike Newton officiating.  Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery in

   Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife, Alice G. Bowen of Columbus; one 
stepdaughter, Cindy Funderburk of Columbus; three stepsons, Ralph Gibson of 
Columbus, Ohio, Ronald Gibson of Columbus and Edward Gibson of Dallas, Texas; 
six sisters, Myrtie Lou Mitchell of Roanoke, Bonnelle Keeble and Joyce Gibson 
of Columbus, Wilma Newton of Union City, Ga., Glennis Rhodes of Sweetwater, 
Tenn., and Charlotte Wills of Eastaboga; two brothers, Lorenza "John" Bowen of 
Rock Mills and Gary Bowen of Opelika; and 10 grandchildren.
   Born Dec. 5, 1923, in Randolph County, Ala., Mr. Bowen was the son of the 
late Verna Ethel Brown and Arthur Denson Bowen.  He grew up attending the 
Church of Christ in the Napoleon community.  Mr. Bowen was a U.S. Army veteran 
serving in the European Theater during World War II.  He was retired from 
Monsanto Chemical Company in Pensacola, Fla., with 31 years of service.  Mr. 
Bowen was a member of the Valley Seniors Golf Club in Columbus, Lakewood 
Country Club of Phenix City and the Dixie Seniors Golf Club of Phenix City.  He 
attended Morningside Baptist Church in Columbus.

Eunice Thompson Robinson

   (BOWDON, Ga.) Eunice Thompson Robinson, 82, of Bowdon, Ga., died Tuesday, 
March 8, 2005, at Carrollton Manor in Carrollton, Ga.
   Mrs. Robinson was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Carroll County, Ga., to the late 
Arlin and Frances Sears Thompson.  She was employed at Lamar Manufacturing in 
Bowdon for 23 years, where she worked as a seamstress.  A lifelong resident of 
this area, she was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church.  In addition to her 
parents, Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by her husband, Q.P. Robinson, and 
brothers, Loyd Thompson, Robert Thompson, Ridley Thompson and Junior Thompson.
   Survivors include a son, Larry Robinson of Carrollton, Ga.; three daughters, 
Patsy Smith of Ranburne, Linda Smith of Bowdon and Hilda Eichstedt of Newell; 
two sisters, Lillian Bohannon of Carrollton and Sara Entrekin of Woodland; 
eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Robinson were at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the 
chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home in Bowdon with elder Homer Benefield and 
Kenneth Spratlin officiating.  Music was furnished by Gita Spratlin and Michael 
Entrekin.
   Pallbearers were Carl Smith, Jimmy Smith, Bobby Smith, John Traylor, Nathan 
Smith, Ryan Smith and Truman Traylor.  Interment will follow the funeral

   (GEORGETOWN, Del.) Pauline V. Messick Willey, 79, of Georgetown, Del., died 
Tuesday, March 15, 2005, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, Del.
   Mrs. Willey was born Feb. 19, 1926, in Dagsboro, Del., daughter of the late 
Edward C. and Hazel V.W. Helm Smith.  She was a self-employed seamstress for 
many years and a homemaker.  She enjoyed crafts, loved baseball and was a 
NASCAR fan.  She was a member of St. Paul's U.M. Church, Laurel, Del.
   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, 
James E. Messick Sr., in 1973; a grandchild, Jeremiah Heath, in 1979; a sister, 
Eleanor Nascik; and a step-daughter, Beatrice Brittingham.
   She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Samuel W. Willey; four sons,

Messick of Ellendale, Del., and Andy Messick of Warner Robins, Ga.; four 
daughters, Clara Tackett of Milford, Del., Edie Banzohf and Lois Wiley of 
Wedowee, and Rebecca Fisher of Gumboro, Del.; a stepdaughter, Betty Lee Bryam 
of Lititz, Pa.; two sisters, Doris Raymond of Dover, Del., and Sandra Esty of 
Warminster, Pa.; 19 grand-children; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-
grandchild.

   Mrs. Williams died Sunday, March 20, at Cleburne Nursing Home in Heflin.
   Survivors include a son, Noel Williams of Heflin; three daughters, Joan Reid 
of Piedmont, Linda Robinson of Muscadine and Jane Hulsey of Tallapoosa, Ga.; a 
sister, Flora McEllen of Dallas, Ga.; a brother, Leo Holland of Woodland; nine

   Mrs. Williams was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County and a

Randy Gerald Crowder

   (CLANTON) Services for Randy Gerald Crowder, 52, of Clanton, formerly of 
Roanoke, were Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 
with the Rev. Michael Morris and the Rev. Derrell Jones officiating.  Burial 
followed in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Crowder died Sunday, March 19, at DCH Regional Medical Center in 
Tuscaloosa from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
   Survivors include three daughters, Heather Vinet and Jessica Crowder, both 
of Philadelphia, Miss., and Thea Crowder of Meridian, Miss.; his companion, 
Audrey Jones of Clanton; one brother, Judd Crowder; and six grandchildren.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Crowder was born March 25, 1952, son of Jewel 
and Blanche Crowder.  He was Baptist by faith and was an owner and operator 
with Crowder Brothers Trucking.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Effie Lene Stallings, 82, of Roanoke will be

Cemetery.
   Mrs. Stallings died Sunday, March 20, at LaFayette Nursing Home.
   Mrs. Stallings is survived by one daughter, Willene Elliott of Roanoke; two 
sons, Troy Stallings of Marietta, Ga., and Jack Stallings of Roanoke; eight 
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Keith Benefield, Larry Bowen, Chris Stallings, Roger 
Adcock, Nance Bishop, Ryan Conger and Danny Baldwin.
   Mrs. Stallings was born April 25, 1922, daughter of Zachariah and Sarah Hill 
Bowen.  She was a member of Highway First Congregational Methodist Church and a 
homemaker.  Mrs. Stallings was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence 
Stallings, and two grandsons, Gerald Stallings and Chad Elliott.

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Awbrey Bowen Burns Jr., 76, of Wedowee will be

Wedowee City Cemetery.
   Mr. Burns died Saturday, March 19, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.

   Mr. Burns is survived by four first cousins, Jane Ussery of Anniston, 
Mitchell Gay Burns Jr. of Wedowee, and Bill Campbell and Susan Green of 
Sylacauga; and two second cousins, James M. Adams Jr. of Marietta, Ga., and Ann 
Adams Mazeko of Pensacola, Fla.

   Mr. Burns was born Jan. 19, 1929, son of Awbrey Burns Sr. and Saralu 
Prescott Burns.  He had been an investor and had degrees in law and pharmacy.

Joe Allen

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Joe Allen, 67, of Wedowee were Sunday, March 20, 2005 
at 2 p.m. at Wedowee First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary

Memory Gardens.
   Mr. Allen died Thursday, March 17, at Palmyra Hospital, Albany, Ga.
   Mr. Allen was born Dec. 14, 1937, son of John Henry and Eloise Arnett 
Allen.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wedowee, which he 
served as a member of the choir and chairman of the finance committee.  He was 
a graduate of Auburn University and the ROTC program and had been employed in 
trucking, banking, insurance and accounting businesses.  He was a member of the 
Lake Wedowee Property Owners Association, which he served as a water 
specialist, and was a former member of the Roanoke City Council, where he was 
instrumental in developing the water filtration plant, recreation center and 
sports complex.  He served on the board of directors of Bank of Wedowee.
   Surviving are his wife, Joy Benefield Allen of Wedowee; two daughters, Lisa 
Thrower of Opelika and Donna Beaman of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son, Jimmy 
Allen of Roanoke; and nine grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his 
parents and one son, Mark Edward Allen.
   Pallbearers were nephews or cousins Jerry Mitchum, Joe Huey, Dennis and 
Danny Crossett, Frank Lanier, Roger Arnett and Whit Bonner.   Honorary

Wedowee; two sons, Thomas Keith and John Brian Mitchell of Wedowee; her mother, 
Emogene Smith of Roanoke; one sister, Mary Rogers of Wedowee; her maternal 
grandmother, Eartele Brewer of Roanoke; and three grandchildren.

   Mr. Green died Thursday, March 17, at University of Alabama-Birmingham

Graham; two sisters, Bernice Lovvorn of Woodland and Runell Johnson of 
LaGrange, Ga.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several 
nieces and nephews.

George Henry Ross

   (ROANOKE) George Henry Ross, 92, of Roanoke died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, 
at his residence.
   Services were Monday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, 
Abanda, with the Rev. Calvin Trammell officiating.  Interment was in New Zion 
Cemetery, Lanett.
   Mr. Ross was born Sept. 10, 1912, in Chambers County to the late Elbert Ross 
and Elizabeth Boyd Ross.  He was one of 13 children. Mr. Ross was a member of 
Hopewell Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board.  He 
was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Etta Askew Ross.
   Surviving are one son, Jeremiah Ross of San Francisco, Calif.; one daughter, 
Lonita Poole of San Francisco; two sisters, Thelma Willis of Atlanta, Ga., and 
Arbell Hardnett of Alexander City; two brothers, John Tom Ross of San Francisco 
and Sebon Ross of LaFayette; a devoted caretaker, Mary Barnard; seven 
grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a 
host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memory Chapel in charge.  Burial will be at Forestlawn Gardens.
   Mr. Brady died Sunday, March 20, at his residence.
   Survivors include his spouse, Lucille Yates Brady of Anniston; a daughter, 
Delores Brady Busenlehner of Austin, Texas; a son, Daniel Robert Brady of 
Oxford; a sister, Edith McCord of Columbiana; a brother, Warren H. Brady of 
Oxford; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons of Mr. Brady.  Honorary 
pallbearers will be Deacons of Parker Memorial Baptist; Mike Lipscomb; Hulon 
Ogle; Dr. Warren Sarrell; Dr. Charles Martin.
   Mr. Brady was a native of Randolph County, where he lived during his early 
life.  He moved to Calhoun County in 1946.  He was a member of the Parker 
Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 49 years and also 
taught Sunday school.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #500 and served on 
the board of directors for the Fellowship House, where he taught Sunday school 
for 12 years.  He was a former member of Northside Baptist Church, where he 
served as a Sunday school teacher and in the choir.  He was the owner and 
operator of Brady Barber Shop for 45 years.  He was a World War II veteran.

	Mrs. Newton was born March 25, 1912, daughter of Stephan and Frances

Quinton L. Bell

   (FIVE POINTS) Quinton L. Bell, 21, of Five Points died Wednesday, March 23, 
2005, in LaFayette.
   Mr. Bell was born Oct. 23, 1983.  He was a member of New Life Worship Center 
of Roanoke.
   Survivors include his mother, Christella Bell of Five Points; his father, 
Donald Bell of LaFayette; three sisters, Miranda Bell and Latonya Bell of 
LaFayette and Renada Jackson of Lanett; his grandmothers, Mary Lizzie Kyles of 
Five Points and Mozell Bell of LaFayette; a niece; four uncles and six aunts.
   Services were Monday, March 28, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 
LaFayette, with the Rev. Lathonia Wright officiating.  Burial was in Skyview

Roy L. Lovvorn

   (RALEIGH, N.C.) Dr. Roy L. Lovvorn, 95, of Springmoor Retirement Community 
in Raleigh, died Saturday, March 26, 2005.  Services were at Springmoor 
Retirement Community at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29.  Burial followed at 
Montlawn Memorial Park.
   Dr. Lovvorn was born in Woodland on Jan. 24, 1910, and was a graduate of 
Auburn University, the University of Missouri and the University of Wisconsin.  
He began his professional career with the Missouri Agricultural Extension 
Service and the US Soil Conservation Service.  In 1936 he accepted a position 
as assistant professor in the Department of Agronomy at what is now North 
Carolina State University.  He resigned in 1950 to accept a position as 
director of the Division of Weed Investigations, U.S. Department of 
Agriculture, Beltsville, Md.
   In 1953 he returned to NC State as director of instruction in the College of 
Agriculture and Life Sciences.  He was director of the Agricultural Experiment 
Station from 1955 until 1969, when he became administrator of the Cooperative 
State Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C.  He 
retired in 1976 and returned to live in Raleigh.
   During his professional years he was named Tarheel of the Week in the News 
and Observer, Man of the Year in Service to North Carolina Agriculture from the 
Progressive Farmer and an International Gamma Sigma Delta award for 
Distinguished Service to Agriculture.  His life is chronicled in From a Log 
Cabin to the Nation's Capital, an autobiography.
   Following retirement he traveled with his wife, Virginia, in a number of 
countries, serving many as a consultant in agricultural research.  In Raleigh 
he served on the Wake County Library Commission, was president of the North 
Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and 
other organizations.  He was also active at Springmoor Retirement Community, 
serving as president of the Residents Association and as manager of the 
Community Store for several years.
   He was a member of Alpha Zeta, Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma 
XI, as well as a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and the American 
Association for the Advancement of Science.  He was selected for membership in 
the Cosmos Club of Washington, D.C., for his many scientific contributions and 
accomplishments.  His membership in the Rotary Club of Raleigh covered more 
than 50 years, and he was honored with a Paul Harris Fellowship.  He was a long-
time member of the NCSU University Club and had served on the board of deacons 
of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church and Greystone Baptist Church.  At the time of 
his death, he was a member of Greystone Baptist Church.
   Dr. Lovvorn was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Virginia, who 
died in June 2003 after suffering from Alzheimer's for many years.   Surviving 
are three sons, Larry of New Bern, N.C., Lee of Marietta, Ga., and Brian of 
Penrose, N.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nephews; 
and his faithful companion and supporter, Mildred Fosnight.

Dorsey L. Benefield

   (LAGRANGE,Ga.) Dorsey L. Benefield, 86, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, March 
27, 2005, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Mr. Benefield, born Nov. 10, 1918, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of 
the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Benefield.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 
serving during World War II, and was employed by Callaway Mills, and later 
Milliken & Company, retiring after 47 years of service.  Mr. Benefield was 
preceded in death by his wife, Lorene South Benefield, and was a member of 
Spring Hill Baptist Church.
   Survivors include one son, Phillip Benefield of Decatur, Ga.; two grandsons; 
five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Jackson of LaGrange and Orene 
Crenshaw of Wedowee; four brothers, Ralph Benefield, Zeke Benefield and Don 
Benefield of Wedowee and D.V. Benefield of Roanoke; and a special friend, Zelma 
Daniel of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.

   (LANETT) Lillie Siggers Hill Merritt, 89, of Lanett died Saturday, March 26, 
2005, at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange, Ga.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at Lanett First United 
Methodist Church with the Rev. Donnie Erwin-Brown and Steve Jenkins 
officiating.  Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett.
   Mrs. Merritt is survived by her daughter, Deane Stone of Lanett; one 
daughter-in-law, Barbara Hill Piper of West Point, Ga.; three grandchildren; 
seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Sara Jenkins of Lanett; and several 
nieces and nephews.
   Born Nov 27, 1915, in Randolph County, Mrs. Merritt was the daughter of the 
late Nora Nix Siggers and the late Jessie Siggers.  She was active in the 
Lanett First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Loyalty 
Sunday School Class.  She retired from Lanett Mill in 1979 with more than 30 
years of service and had been a homemaker since.  Mrs. Merritt was preceded in 
death by her husbands, James Houston Hill and Monroe J. Merritt, her son, Bobby 
Hill, four brothers and four sisters.

Bobby O'Neal Adams

   (LANETT) Bobby O'Neal Adams, 74, of Lanett died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at 
his residence.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service 
Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Blake Lockhart officiating.  Burial 
followed at Garden Hill Cemetery.
   Mr. Adams is survived by five daughters, Sonja Wiseman of Panama City Beach, 
Fla., Shelia Adams of LaFayette, Penny Hull of Lanett, Rhonda Sims of Wetumpka 
and Vicky Rabideau of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one son, Bud Stringfellow of Wadley; 10 
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
   Born in Alabama on Oct. 16, 1930, Mr. Adams was the son of the late Adrian 
Adams and Annie Lee Adams.  He loved to gold mine and fish.  Mr. Adams enjoyed 
meeting with his friends three times a day at the Waffle House and loved to 
travel.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Adams, and his sister, 
Betty Sanders.  Mr. Adams was a member of Huguley United Methodist Church and 
Lost Dutchmans Association.

William Howard Coleman

   (OPELIKA) William Howard Coleman, 65, of Opelika died Saturday, March 26, 
2005.  The family will receive friends at Frederick's Funeral Home in Opelika 
Friday, April 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a private burial ceremony near 
the family home in Randolph County.
   Mr. Coleman was born April 23, 1939, in Randolph County, to the late Ben and 
Winnie Mae Broach Coleman.
   He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carolyn Lee 
Singleton Coleman, and his brother, Thamas Nathaniel Coleman of Hattiesburg, 
Miss.  Survivors include three sons, Scott William Coleman of Austin, Texas, 
Jason Matthew Coleman of Cusseta and John David Coleman of Kyle, Texas; three 
grandchildren; two brothers, Ben Coleman Jr. of Atlanta and James "Pete" 
Coleman of San Antonio, Texas, along with many other relatives and friends.
   The family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American 
Cancer Society or their local Hospice organization.

Robert Ford Davidson

   (ROANOKE) Services for Robert Ford Davidson, 77, of Roanoke were Tuesday, 
March 29, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Keith 
Benefield officiating.  Burial followed at New Harmony Cemetery.
   Mr. Davidson died Sunday, March 27, at his residence.
   Survivors include one daughter, Shelby Jean Hardy of Breman, Ga.; three 
sons, Terry Davidson, Johnny Ray Davidson and Bruce Davidson of Roanoke; two 
sisters, Sally Hanlin of Columbus, Ga., and Julie Waites of Opelika; two 
brothers, Pete Davidson of Valley and Merl Davidson of Greenville, S.C.; six 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were James Burns, Scott Dukus,. Russell Carr, Billy Royston, 
Steve Davidson, Brentford Davidson, Ricky Davidson and Greg Harper.
   Mr. Davidson was born Sept. 29, 1927, son of William H. and Ezekiel Waldrep 
Davidson.  He was a member of Midway Full Gospel Church and a truck driver for 
McDonald Lumber Company.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  
Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Davidson.
   Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Midway Full Gospel 
Church.

Johnny Wayne Cobb

   (HEFLIN) Services for Johnny Wayne Cobb, 64, of Heflin were Monday, March 
28, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Heflin, with the Rev. Bo 
Hendon and the Rev. Franklin Turner officiating.  Burial was in Cedar Creek 
Cemetery, Heflin, with Dryden Funeral Home in charge.
   Mr. Cobb died Friday, March 25, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Ga.
   He is survived by his spouse, Nancy Cobb of Carrollton, Ga.; three 
daughters, Leisa Bearden of Heflin, Donna Akin of Newell and Misty Loveless of 
Carrollton; three sons, David Cobb of Roanoke and Danny Cobb and Brandon Cobb 
of Heflin; two sisters, Amy Smith of Delta and Thelma Clark of Anniston; three 
brothers, Russell Cobb of Anniston and Jimmy Cobb and Gay Cobb of Heflin; and 
15 grandchildren.
   Mr. Cobb was a lifelong resident of Cleburne County and a member of Cedar 
Creek Baptist Church.

Susie Mann Miles

   (FIVE POINTS) Services for Susie Mann Miles, 83, of Five Points were held 
Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the 
Rev. Sonny Kent and the Rev. Adam Bishop officiating.  Burial followed at Rocky 
Mount Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Miles died Saturday, March 26, at Bethany House in Auburn.
   Survivors include her husband, J.T. "Jake" Miles of Five Points; three 
daughters, Sue Sheppard of LaFayette, Ann Beldsoe of West Point, Ga., and 
Phyllis Harris of Auburn; five sons, Hewell Bishop of Woodland, Tommy Bishop of 
Midland, Ga., Frank Bishop of Daviston, Darrell Bishop of Lanett and Wayne 
Miles of Five Points; two brothers, Grady Mann of Langdale and J.T. Mann of New 
Site; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Miles was born Jan. 18, 1922, daughter of Joseph Minnon and Susie 
Willoughby Mann.  She was employed with West Point Pepperell.

Wylee Burl Yates

   (MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho) Wylee Burl Yates, 75, of Mountain Home, Idaho, died 
Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at a Boise hospital.
   Memorial services were at 5 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Summers Funeral Homes, 
McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.  Wylee chose to be cremated and his remains 
will be interred beside his mother and father in Providence Baptist Church 
Cemetery in Woodland.  A memorial service will be Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. 
at Providence Baptist Church with Bro. David Daniel officiating.  Cremation is 
under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
   Mr. Yates was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Randolph County, the only child of Guy 
Leberus and Mary Jim Rampy Yates.  His father was a taxicab owner/driver in 
Roanoke.  His dad tragically died July 20, 1940.  Wylee's mother was a 
beautiful lady and a talented beautician.  She needed help caring for young 
Wylee after her husband's death, so he lived with his grandmother Ella Yates 
and Aunt Inez Yates.  Wylee joined the U.S. Army and served as a medic during 
the Korean War.  He was the recipient of a Purple Heart.  He graduated from 
Boise State University, bought a home and settled in Mountain Home.
   He is survived by two aunts, Lois Rampy of Anniston and Mac Rampy of 
Piedmont; a host of cousins; and a dear friend, Myrna Gonzales.  He was 
preceded in death by his parents.

Celestine B. Heard

   (WADLEY) Celestine B. Heard, 78, of 1754 County Road 838, Wadley, died 
Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Services were Tuesday, March 29, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 
Wadley, with the Revs. Cornelius Reese, Timothy Heard and James Carlisle 
officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include seven sons, Kenneth Walker, Ethridge Knight, Jerry Wayne 
Anderson and Charles Anderson of Wadley, James Anderson and Eric Anderson of 
Atlanta, and George Anderson ,of LaGrange; two daughters, Frances Greathouse of 
Wadley and Brenda Pierce of Atlanta; two sisters, Zenobie Horton and Virginia 
Monday of Dayton, Ohio; 28 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Josh Heard; and a sister, Hortence Battle.

Jimmie Verval Heard

   (ROANOKE) Services for Jimmie Verval Heard, 82, of Roanoke were Friday, 
March 25, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Bill 
Dean officiating.  Burial followed at Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Heard died Wednesday, March 23, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Survivors include one daughter, Janis Fincher of Roanoke; three 
grandchildren; one sister, Sara Shewark of Roanoke; and eight great-
grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Rob Perry, David Ireland, Donald Mitchem, Chuck Holloway, 
Jimmy Bennett and Jerry Bennett.
   Mrs. Heard was born April 15, 1923, daughter of James Edward and Ella Hall 
Bennett.  She was a member of Roanoke First Baptist Church and owner of Heard 
Florist.  Mrs. Heard is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Grover 
Heard; and two brothers, Harvey and J.L. Bennett.

Glover Whaley

   (LINEVILLE) Services for Glover Whaley, 70, of Lineville, were at 2 p.m. 
Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Lineville Church of Christ with Scott Latham, 
Michael Horn and Paul Cockrell officiating.  Burial followed at Lineville City 
Cemetery with Clay County Funeral Home in charge.
   Mr. Whaley died Tuesday, March 22, at University Hospital in Birmingham.
   He was a native of Randolph County, but had been a resident of Lineville 
most of his life.  Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Anniston 
Army Depot as a mechanic.  He was a member of East Alabama Antique Farm 
Equipment Club and Lineville Church of Christ, where he was the song director 
and had previously served as a deacon.
   He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Whaley of Lineville; a 
daughter, Donna Adamson of Lineville; a son Ricky Whaley; three grandchildren; 
a great-grandson; a sister Maggie Dollar of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and a brother 
Grover Whaley of Anniston.
   Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Whaley were Nathan Whaley, Jack Whaley, Jody 
Whaley, Harold Dollar; Vernon Chapman, Rayford Johnson, Albert Gregg, James 
Horn, Duward Rice and Jerry Rice.

Randall Scott

   (ROANOKE) Services for Randall Scott of Roanoke, 68, were Friday. March 25. 
2005. at 10 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clayton Scott 
officiating.  Graveside services and burial were at Taylors Crossroads Church 
of Christ Cemetery, with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  
Mr. Scott died Wednesday, March 23, at Higgins General Hospital.
   Survivors include one daughter, Holli Deeanne Evans of Breman, Ga.; one 
sister, Cindy Tidwell of LaFayette; two brothers, Harold Scott of Powder 
Springs, Ga., and Mark Scott of Woodland.
   Pallbearers were Richard Evans, Joseph Scott, Tony Scott, Darryl Scott, 
Jamie Cofield and Larry Cofield.
   Mr. Scott was born July 9, 1936, son of Elmer and Ila Robinson Scott.  He 
was Church of Christ by faith and a diesel mechanic for Southeastern Freight 
Lines.  Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Kendall Scott and one 
sister; Sue Manley.

Millie E. Phillips

   (BOAZ) Graveside rites for Millie E. Phillips, 82, of Boaz, formerly of 
Anniston, were at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Anniston Memorial Gardens 
with the Rev. Tony Gunter officiating.
   Mrs. Phillips died Tuesday, March 22, at Marshall Medical Center in Boaz.
   Survivors are a special niece, Joyce Baird of Boaz, and several other nieces 
and nephews.
   Nephews served as pallbearers.
   Mrs. Phillips was a native of Randolph County and is preceded in death by 
her husband, Benjamin Phillips.
   In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Marshall 
County.

Donald Wayne Parker Sr.

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Donald Wayne Parker Sr., 52, of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, 
March 22, 2005, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mr. Parker was born Sept. 8, 1952, in LaGrange, son of Charlie Parker Jr. of 
Franklin, Ga., and the late Nira McRae Parker.  He was a lifelong resident and 
was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  He was a member of Beech Springs Baptist 
Church.  Mr. Parker was employed with the LaGrange Housing Authority, where he 
worked in the maintenance department.  In addition to his mother, he was 
preceded in death by a brother, Ray Wyatt Parker.
   Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Margaret J. Parker 
of LaGrange; a daughter, Aprile Jean Parker of Beulah; two sons, Donald Wayne 
Parker Jr. and Donald Eugene Parker, both of LaGrange; his stepmother, Era 
Parker of Franklin; two sisters, Shelia Beard of Franklin and Sharon Pierson of 
Rock Mills; five brothers, Hugh Parker and Lee Parker of Cleveland, Tenn., Ken 
Parker of LaGrange, Vernon Parker of Franklin and Jeff Parker of Biloxi, Miss.; 
four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at Striffler-Hamby 
Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy McMillian and his brother, Rev. 
Kenneth Parker, officiating.  Burial followed in Glenn Cemetery.
   In lieu of flowers, those so desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange in 
memory of Mr. Parker.

Herman Grady Jacobs

   (EAST PRAIRIE, Mo.) Herman Grady Jacobs, 93, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at 
his residence in East Prairie, Mo. Burial was March 16 in Missouri.
   Mr. Jacobs was born Sept. 17, 1911, in Cleburne County, Ala.
   Survivors include two sons, John Jacobs of Woodland and Dan Jacobs of 
Chattanooga, Tenn.; one daughter, Jo Alice Mospan of Woodland; seven 
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   Preceding him in death were his wife and mother of his children, Mary P. 
Jacobs; two sons, Bobby H. Jacobs and a stillborn infant; one grandson, Kevin 
Jacobs; and two brothers, Homer L. Jacobs and Otis L. Jacobs.
