OBITUARIES:

Willie Frank Henderson

   (ATLANTA) Willie Frank Henderson, 59, of Atlanta died Saturday, March 3, 
2007, at Haven House Hospice, Atlanta.
   Services will be Thursday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 
Roanoke, with Pastor Myris Bell, Rev. Gilbert Staples, Rev. L.B. Houston and 
minister Jeffrey Henderson officiating.
   Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Howard Henderson; a daughter, Latasha 
Henderson of Newnan, Ga.; two sons, Bryant Houston and Wendell Houston of 
Newnan; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Shropshire of Newnan; five brothers, Charlie 
Earnest Henderson of Franklin, Ga., and Richard Henderson, Bobby Henderson, 
Randy Henderson and Carl Dennis Henderson of Roanoke; and four sisters, Mary 
Joyce Bell, Jessie Ruth Carlisle and Johnnie Mae Henderson of Roanoke and 
Marcia Culberson of Atlanta.
   Public viewing will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on 
Wednesday.
   The body will be placed in the church one hour before the funeral.

Teresa Terrell

   (WEDOWEE) Teresa Terrell, 26, of 998 County Rd. 1, Wedowee, died Sunday, 
March 4, 2007, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Services will be Saturday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at Union Chapel Methodist 
Church, Wedowee, with the Rev. William W. Crawford officiating. Burial will be 
in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include her parents, James and Helen Marsh of Wedowee; two sons, 
Jamarcus Brown and Jaiqwan Terell of Wedowee; a brother, Kenneth Terrell of 
Wedowee; three sisters, Joyce Terrell, Nickie Terrell and Janice Marsh of 
Wedowee; her grandmother, Ruby Andrews of Wedowee; and a special friend, Tyrone 
Rutlin of Wedowee.
   Public viewing hours will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. 
on Friday. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the funeral.

Amelia Thweatt Shumpert

   (BENTON HARBOR, Mich.) Amelia Thweatt Shumpert, 95, of Benton Harbor, Mich., 
died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, Mich.
   Services were Tuesday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist 
Church, Roanoke, with Pastor Shannon Allison, the Rev. L.B. Houston and the 
Rev. R.L. Heflin officiating. Burial was in Ashdale Cemetery, Tuskegee.
   Mrs. Shumpert was born July 14, 1911, in Tuskegee, daughter of the late 
Thomas Perry Thweatt and the late Lilla Perryman Thweatt. She obtained a B.S. 
degree in business education from Tennessee State University in 1950 and did 
graduate studies at Northwestern University, Iowa State University, Indiana 
State and Auburn University.
   Amelia married Theodore Shumpert Aug. 19, 1937, and they had two children. 
In Roanoke she joined Bethel United Methodist Church and worked in the Sunday 
school, Methodist Youth Fellowship, as pianist and organist and in other 
various capacities. She also served as temporary pianist and other capacities 
for First Missionary Baptist Church. Amelia taught 30 years in the schools of 
the Roanoke area: county, city and vocational. She served as a board member of 
the Talladega-Clay-Randolph Child Care Corporation.
   Her activities after retirement continued in the church. She volunteered at 
Randolph County Learning Center; she was also involved with the Randolph County 
Farm Home Administration Screening Committee, Randolph County Extension Service 
Home Economics Council, Task Force Committee of Roanoke City Schools, and 
Randolph-Roanoke Vocational Advisory Board. She was a member for four years and 
president for one year of the Roanoke Board of Education.
   After the death of her husband in 1985, Amelia became a resident of Benton 
Harbor-St. Joseph Twin City area. She joined Second Baptist Church, where she 
was a member of the Mothers & Deaconess Board, Gospel Chorus and played the 
piano when needed. She was also a volunteer for the Benton Harbor Senior Center 
Choir and was a resident of Adkins Village.
   Survivors include a daughter, Lottie Shumpert Pugh of Benton Harbor; a son, 
Theodore William Shumpert of St. Louis, Mo.; and three granddaughters. She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Shumpert; a special sister-in-law, 
Geneva Shumpert; and son-in-law, William Pugh.

Eddie Lee Rowe Morgan

   (ATLANTA) Eddie Lee Rowe Morgan, 75, of Atlanta died Thursday, March 1, 
2007, at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta.
   Services will be Wednesday, March 7, at noon at Mount Olive United Methodist 
Church, Wadley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Survivors include her husband, Raymond Morgan of Atlanta; a daughter, Judy 
Denise Morgan of Atlanta; two sons, Reginald Bernard Morgan of Smyrna, Ga., and 
Cedrid Lovell Morgan of Atlanta; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; 
and a special niece Wanda Rowe of Austell, Ga. She was preceded in death by two 
sisters, Jessie Mae Reese and Hazel Rowe; and three brothers, John Henry Rowe, 
Jessie Rowe Jr. and Robert Rowe.
   The body will be placed in the church one hour before the funeral.

William Richmond Stephens

   (ASHVILLE) Services for William Richmond Stephens, 57, of Ashville, formerly 
of Birmingham and Huntsville, were Saturday, March 3, 2007, at 1 p.m. at 
Quattlebaum  Funeral Chapel, Roanoke, with Dr. William Dean officiating. Burial 
followed at Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at Stroud.
   Mr. Stephens died Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Veterans Administration Medical 
Center in Birmingham.
   Survivors include his father, William C. Stephens of Roanoke; his 
stepmother, Inez Stephens of Roanoke; three sisters, Laura Patterson of 
Huntsville, Sue McWhorter of Madison and Kendra King of Roanoke; two step-
sisters, Phyllis Rutherford of North Carolina and Vicki Clark of Georgia, a 
step-brother, Chris Rowe of Panama City, Fla.; a nephew; a great-nephew and 
great-niece; one aunt; eight cousins and a host of good friends.
   Mr. Stephens was born April 11, 1949, in Waco, Texas, son of William C. and 
Laura Beth Quinn Stephens. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Roanoke, 
and graduated from Handley High School, Auburn University (B.S. in accounting), 
Samford University (M.B.A.), and Cumberland School of Law (Doctor of 
Jurisprudence). Following three tours of duty as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, 
he served 25 years with the Alabama National Guard. He was an attorney, college 
instructor, businessman and consultant to foreign governments in the war on 
terror. Among his many activities were Master Gardener, Masons and Cahaba River 
preservation. Mr. Stephens is preceded in death by his mother, Laura Beth Quinn 
Stephens.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Museum of Flight 
Foundation, 4343 73rd St. N., Birmingham, AL 35202.
   Pallbearers were Oliver Kitchens, William Lane, Jim McMurray, Rick O'Brien, 
Kenny Phillips, Chris Rowe, Fred Scarborough and Marty Wissinger.

Agnes Marie Baird Pendleton

   (MARYVILLE, Tenn.) Graveside services for Agnes Marie Baird Pendleton, 88, 
of Maryville, Tenn., formerly of Roanoke, were Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at 3 
p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mrs. Pendleton died Saturday, March 3, at Morningview Transitional Care in 
Maryville.
   Survivors include a daughter, Glenn Marie Rochelle Hofmann of Norcross, Ga.; 
a son, John Hurt Rocky Rochelle of Alcoa, Tenn.; four grandchildren; seven 
great-grandchildren; a sister, Hortense Toni Baird Cornwell of Canton, Ga.; a 
brother, James Dallas Baird Jr. of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews.
   Memorial services were Monday with the Rev. Brenda and Larry Carroll 
officiating.
   Mrs. Pendleton was born to James Dallas and Sarah Laduska Swan Baird on 
March 14, 1918. She graduated from Randolph County High School, then moved to 
Atlanta to attend beauty school. Agnes met and married John Hurt Rochelle, a 
pharmacist in Atlanta. They had two children. They moved to the Stone Mountain 
community in Clarkston, Ga., where they resided for eight years. She was very 
involved in the Clarkston Methodist Church. Widowed in 1956, Agnes met and 
married John Emerson Pendleton Sr. and moved to Fountain City in 1960. They 
resided on Tazwell Pike in Knoxville, Tenn., and attended Fountain City United 
Methodist Church. After John's death in 1988, Agnes moved to Maryville, 
residing in the Jamestown condominiums for 14 years. She later moved to the 
Morningview Village Assisted Living where she lived for almost four years. She 
was a member of Maryville First United Methodist Church and an active member of 
the Shields Sunday School Class.
   Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Baird 
Garner Vinson of Birmingham and Roanoke, and Susan Baird Huckaby of Knoxville 
and Charlotte, N.C.

Morie Key Humphrey

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Morie Key Humphrey, 87, of Wedowee, were Saturday, 
March 3, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Billy East 
officiating. Burial followed in Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Humphrey died Thursday, March 1, at Lineville Health and Rehab.
   Mrs. Humphrey is survived by two sons, James Humphrey of Crestview, Fla., 
and William Humphrey of Wewahitchka, Fla.; three sisters, Betty Jean Hendrix of 
Huntsville, Ethel Beam and Naomi Hill of Wedowee; one brother, Basil Key of 
Wedowee; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Patrick, Brian and Michael Humphrey, Loyd Craft, Billy 
Brewer and Phillip Wortham. Honorary pallbearer were [was] Peter Humphrey.
   Mrs. Humphrey was born Nov. 11, 1919, daughter of Bill and Weder East Key. 
She was a member of Union Hill Congregational Methodist Church and had worked 
at Handley Mills. Mrs. Humphrey was preceded in death by her husband, Ed 
Humphrey; and one daughter, Ann Humphrey.

Jerry Wayne Taylor

   (WADLEY) Services for Jerry Wayne Taylor, 63, of Wadley, were Saturday, 
March 3, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Corinth Christian Church, with the Rev. Bobby 
Burroughs officiating. Burial followed in Forrester's Chapel Cemetery.
   Mr. Taylor died Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Jackie Raye Stone Taylor of Wadley; four 
daughters, Melinda Waters of Florida, Leslie Smith and Cheryl Albright of 
Wadley and Cindy McCormick of Cragford; seven sisters, Teresa Moore of Roanoke, 
Jean Joiner of Alabaster, Georgia Hood of Oneonta, Betty Davis of Cragford, 
Ginger Martin of Birmingham, Naomi Blair of Five Points and Dari Bennett of 
Calera; four brothers, Bo Taylor and Paul Taylor of Roanoke, Tracy Taylor of 
Jemmison and David Taylor of Auburn; and nine grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were David Knight, Cameron Knight, Matt Walters, Mike Walters, 
Lee Knight and Brandon Knight.
   Mr. Taylor was born Oct. 14, 1943, son of Matthew James and Margaret Key 
Taylor. He was a self-employed hydraulic mechanic. Mr. Taylor was preceded in 
death by one daughter, Chayron Dari Tillis; and one brother, Jeff Taylor.

   (OXFORD) Services for Mrs. Onie Freeman Waldrep, 91, of Oxford, formerly of 
Woodland, were at 2 p.m., on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Gray Brown-Service 
Mortuary with Rev. Charles Wright officiating.
   Mrs. Waldrep died Thursday morning, March 1, at NHC Healthcare in Anniston.
   Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Gay, and her husband, Robert, of 
Oxford; a granddaughter, Lue Barnes and her husband, Ricky, of Oxford; and 
several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Waldrep was preceded in death by her husband, 
Emmett Waldrep.

Myrtle Suenette Sue' Johnson

   (CAMP HILL) Services for Myrtle Suenette Sue Johnson, 76, of Camp Hill 
will be at Camp Hill Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at 1 p.m. 
Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange, Ga., at 4:30 p.m. EDT. 
The Rev. Jeff Hardin will officiate.
   Born on Saturday, March 28, 1931, Mrs. Johnson died Monday, March 12, 2007. 
She was a member of Camp Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her 
son, Jamie Johnson.
   Survivors include two daughters, Susan Link of Dadeville and Shron Hodges of 
Camp Hill; three sisters, Loette Harrison of Roopville, Ga., Lerline Smallwood 
of Huguley and Ruth Knight of Big Springs; five grandchildren; and several 
nieces and nephews.

Thelma Lee Green Kent

   (THOMASTON, Ga.) Thelma Lee Green Kent, 90, of Thomaston, Ga., died Sunday, 
March 11, 2007, at Upson Regional Medical Center.
   Mrs. Kent, born Feb. 13, 1917, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of 
the late Matt and Emma Green. She retired from Thomaston Mills, where she 
worked in the sewing room in the bleachery division. She was a member of Shiloh 
Baptist Church, where she was active in the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. 
She was an avid gardener and loved quilting.
   Survivors include a stepdaughter, Carol Brooks of Warner Robins, Ga.; a 
sister, Marjorie Green of LaGrange, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Johnnie Green of 
LaGrange; several nieces and nephews; three step-grandchildren, eight step-
great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services 
will be Tuesday, March 13, at 2 p.m. EDT in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home 
in Thomaston. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery in Thomaston.

Holly Wilburn Dub' Calhoun

   (WOODLAND) Graveside services for Holly Wilburn Dub Calhoun, 68, of 
Woodland were Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at noon at Providence Baptist Church 
Cemetery, with the Rev. David Daniel officiating.
   Mr. Calhoun died Saturday, March 10, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include one daughter, Dawn Pike of Roanoke; one son, Bryant 
Calhoun of Woodland; two grandsons; two sisters, Judy McCreless of Eatonton, 
Ga., and Debris Langley of Dallas, Ga.; and a special friend, Marcelle 
Benefield of Wedowee.
   Pallbearers were Greg Beck, Dewayne Bailey, Terry Butler, Norman Wade, Scott 
Spratlin and Gary Roberts.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Calhoun was born Feb. 4, 1939, son of Jasper 
Green and Jewell E. Daniel Calhoun. He was a self-employed carpenter and a 
member of Providence Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; 
three brothers, Travis, Glenn and Gayron Calhoun; and a sister, Dianne Sinnock.

Edna Smith Reynolds

   (GOODWATER) Services for Edna Smith Reynolds, 87, of Goodwater, were Monday, 
March 12, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home with Rev. Hughey 
Reynolds and Rev. John Harold Denney officiating. Burial will follow in the 
Ashland Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Reynolds died Saturday, March 11, at Lake Martin Community Hospital.
   She was born on May 19, 1919, in Clay County to Newton Alexander Miller and 
Julia Viola Ray Miller.  She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church 
and was retired from Russell Corporation as a sewing machine operator after 20-
plus years of service.
   She is survived by her husband, Lavelle Reynolds of Wedowee; a daughter, 
Renetta Smith of Goodwater; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and two 
sisters, Lounell Sherrer and Jimmie Zeladois.  She was preceded in death by her 
parents; first husband, O.C. Smith; and five sisters.

Mary Joyce Prothro

   (ROANOKE) Mary Joyce Prothro, 81, of 650 Seymour Dr., Roanoke, died 
Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Services were Monday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist 
Church, Woodland, with the Rev. William W. Crawford officiating. Burial was in 
the church cemetery.
   Survivors include four daughters, Jewell Pearson of Roanoke, Ruby Stephens 
of Bowdon, Ga., Rebecca Bell of Atlanta and Mary Ann Prothro of Woodland, Ga.; 
a brother, Elise Holloway Jr. of Chicago; three sisters, Lurlene Ware and Betty 
Holloway of Lakeland, Fla., and Virginia Turner of Woodland, Ala.; 11 
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She 
was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Prothro; a son, Mack Prothro Jr.; 
four sisters, Louise Gooden, Willie Mae Nunn, Karon Holloway and Flora Mae 
Prothro; and a brother, Joe Floyd Holloway.

Myrl Higgins Hammond

   (BREMEN, Ga.) Myrl Higgins Hammond, 90, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at 
Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rica, Ga.
   She was born July 17, 1916, in Carroll County, Ga., to the late Boyd and 
Merwyn McIntyre Higgins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death 
by an infant daughter, Josephine, in 1936; her husband of 62 years, Burl B. 
Hammond, in 1994 and two brothers, Hugh and Gerald Higgins.
   Mrs. Hammond was a longtime resident of the Big Springs community in 
Randolph County and a member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She retired from 
Warren Sewell Clothing Company in Bowdon in 1978 after over 20 years of 
service. She relocated to Bremen in 1994 to reside with her daughter following 
the death of Mr. Hammond.
   The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at Big Springs Baptist 
Church, with the Rev. Scott Hannah and the Rev. David Daniel officiating.    
Interment will be in the church cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. 
The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service.
   Relatives will be at the family home at 270 County Rd. 34 in Big Springs 
before and after the service.
   Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Scott of Bremen; son, Harold Harmon of 
Prattville; five grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sara Higgins of Mobile; two 
aunts; and a host of nieces and nephews.

John David Rushton

   (LAFAYETTE) Graveside services for John David Rushton, 63, of LaFayette, 
formerly of Roanoke, will be Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at 2 p.m. at New Hope 
Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeff Thorn officiating.
   Mr. Rushton died Monday, March 12, at his home in Chambers County.
   Survivors include his wife; Rosa Lee Cosper Rushton of LaFayette; and a 
brother, Hoyt Rushton of Hogansville, Ga.
   Pallbearers will be Junior Riddle, Charles Smith, Steve Field, Gregg Thorn, 
Larry Richardson and Dick Conway. Charlie Christian will serve as an honorary 
pallbearer.
   Memorials may be floral of [or] the family suggests contributions to the New 
Hope Christian Church Cemetery Fund.
   A Randolph County native, Mr. Rushton was born July 22, 1943, son of Henry 
Dave and Millie Cofield Rushton. He was an army veteran of the Vietnam War, a 
member of Antioch Baptist Church in LaFayette and had been employed as a 
machinist with the Falk Corporation.

Jewel Kendrick

   (MILLTOWN) Jewel Kendrick, 84, of Milltown died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at 
George H. Lanier Hospital, Valley.
   Services were at Community Baptist Church, LaFayette, at 2 p.m. on Friday, 
March 9, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Clifford DeLee, Rev. 
Ron Story, Rev. Wesley Brooks and Rev. Milford McClain officiated.
   Mrs. Kendrick was a native of Tallapoosa County, born Oct. 22, 1922. She was 
retired from the lunchroom at Chamber[s] County High School and was the oldest 
charter member of Community Baptist Church.
   Surviving are three children, John Kendrick of Hackneyville, Margie Adams of 
Milltown and Danny Kendrick of Five Points; one sister, Liller Mae Lamb of 
LaFayette; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Charlie Kendrick.
   Pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Darryl Bishop, Fred 
Phillips, Carey Wayne Eastridge, Mike Meadows, Bobby Watkins and Ray Lee.

Jimmie Allen Bolt

   (ROANOKE) Services for Jimmie Allen Bolt, 68, of Roanoke were Sunday, Feb. 
11, 2007, at 4 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Fitzgerald 
Brown officiating. Burial was at Rock Springs Christian Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Bolt died Wednesday, Feb. 7, at his home.
   Survivors include one son, Wayne Bolt; and one brother, Horace Bolt of 
Roanoke.
   Mr. Bolt was born March 7, 1938, son of Milford M. and Corine Koon Bolt. He 
had been a security guard for Amoco Fabrics & Fibers.

   (ROANOKE) Luther Paige, 96, of U.S. Hwy. 431 North, Roanoke, died Saturday, 
March 10, 2007, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Services will be Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church, 
Welch, with the Rev. Mario McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the church 
cemetery.
   Survivors include four daughters, Dasie Lee Melton, Sadie Dean and Maggie

Felton Junior Hill

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Felton Junior Hill, 82, of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, March 
12, 2007, at Hospice LaGrange.
   Mr. Hill was born March 9, 1925, in Wedowee, son of the late James Matthew 
Hill and Josie Mize Hill. He had lived in LaGrange most of his life and 
attended Loyd Presbyterian Church. He was retired from West Georgia Health 
System, where he worked as a security guard.
   Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jewell Hill of LaGrange; children, Jan 
Marshall and Kenneth Hill; siblings, Linward Hill, Julia Haynes, Vanner Haynes 
and Jennie Key; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services will be held at 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday, March 14, at Striffler-Hamby 
Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel with Rev. S. T. Janney and the Rev. Dr. Tony Dean 
officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery. Flowers will he

   (WOODLAND) Funeral services for Harvie Jr. "Tootie" Sears, 66, of Woodland,

   (ROANOKE) Mildred America Biddle Hall of Roanoke, formerly of Rossville, 
Ga., died Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Traylor Retirement Community in Roanoke.
   Mrs. Hall was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church in Roanoke and a former 
member of Battlefield Baptist Church in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. She was retired 
from Rossville Mills.
   Survivors are one daughter, Carolyn Williams, and husband, the Rev. John 
Williams, Roanoke; four grandchildren; one brother, the Rev. Milford Biddle of 
Easley, S.C.; and three sisters, Louise and Rozella Biddle of Easley and Azile 
Ward of Marietta, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford Thomas 
Hall; and one grandchild, John Timothy Williams.

School. Mrs. Herren married her true love, Wade Herren, on Dec. 31, 1927. They 
were married for 62 years. She was preceded in death by her husband; her

   Mr. Hughey was born in Lanett Nov. 5, 1953. He enjoyed music and fishing and 
was a big University of Alabama fan. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Christy Goss and Michell Garsee of Valley; nine grandchildren; his mother, 
Maggie Thrower Hughey of LaPorte, Texas; four sisters, Elizabeth Conner of

Seldon Laten Green

   (LITHIA SPRINGS, Ga.) Seldon Laten Green, 81, of Lithia Springs, Ga., died 
Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Wellstar Douglas Hospital.
   Mr. Green was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Clay County, Ala., son of the late 
Jarruth Green and the late Opal Stansell Green. He married Agnes Price 60 years 
ago, on March 15, 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the 
U.S.S. Zaniah in the Pacific Theater and during the Battle of Okinawa. He was a 
resident of Lithia Springs since 1955 and was a Ruritan member in the community 
for over 40 years having served in the offices of president, secretary, 
treasurer and zone governor. The club was instrumental in starting the Lithia 
Springs Post Office, fire department, library and providing street signs for 
the Lithia Springs area. Mr. Green was a member of Lithia Springs First Baptist 
Church, where he served as a deacon for 40 years and as a Sunday school 
teacher.    He was a member of the Anglers Sunday School Class. He earned 
several degrees from Southern Baptist Education Extension. Mr. Green worked for 
Equifax Credit as a binderyman.
   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Bobby 
Robinson.
   He is survived by his wife Agnes Price Green of Lithia Springs; one 
daughter, Retta Manns of Rensselaer, Ind.; one son, Gary Green of Sandy 
Springs, Ga.; one sister, Virginia Hardy of Douglasville, Ga.; two brothers, 
Terry McKenney of Monticello, Fla., and Glenn McKenney of Lithia Springs; five 
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services were Saturday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of 
Lithia Springs, with the Rev. Terry Barnes, Dr. Marion Beaver and Dr. Robert 
Whitmire officiating. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of First Baptist 
Church of Lithia Springs and members of the Anglers Sunday School Class.        
Interment and graveside services were at 2 p.m. CDT Saturday at Mellow Valley 
Cemetery in Clay County, with the Rev. Marion Beaver and the Rev. Zenus Windsor 
officiating.

Kristen Nichol Green

   (WOODLAND) Services for Kristen Nichol Green, 16, of Woodland were Saturday, 
March 24, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Woodland First Congregational Methodist Church 
with the Rev. Earl Rollins and the Rev. Ricky Emory officiating. Burial 
followed at Highway Memory Gardens.
   Miss Green died Thursday, March 22, in Woodland.
   Miss Green is survived by her mother, Tammy Renee Green of Carrollton, Ga.; 
her father, Billy Joe Green of Woodland; paternal grandparents, Jack T. and 
Jessie Mae Richardson Kennedy of Woodland; maternal grandparent, Sue M. Jordan 
of Carrollton; two sisters, Angel Hope Allen of Opelika and Kimberly Dawn 
Harper of Carrollton; and her great-grandmother, Cermilla Richardson of 
Woodland. Miss Green was preceded in death by her grandfather, Billy Joe Green 
Sr.; her great-grandfather, Henry Richardson; and an aunt, Kathy Ann Green.
   Pallbearers were Chad Green, Derrick Green, Billy Joe Green, Glen Green, 
John Leddington and Phillip Cooper. Honorary pallbearers were the Woodland High 
School Class of 2008.
   Miss Green was born May 13, 1990, daughter of Billy Joe and Tammy Renee 
Jordan Green. She was a member of Woodland First Congregational Methodist 
Church, a member of the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Woodland High School Math 
Team and the A&B Honor Club.

Garvell Herman Parmer

   (WOODLAND) Services for Garvell Herman Parmer, 75, of Woodland will be 
Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. 
Ridley Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel East Baptist Church 
Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on 
Wednesday.
   Mr. Parmer died Monday, March 26, at his home.
   Survivors include his wife, LaVelle Baker Farmer of Woodland; five 
daughters, Victoria Anderson of Albuquerque, N.M., Deborah Williams of Pinson, 
Cynthia Smith and Rhoda Conway of Opelika and Pam Standridge of Beauregard; one 
son, Rex Parmer of Beauregard; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by one son, Garvell Parmer Jr., and one daughter, Tina 
Herzog.
   Pallbearers will be Patrick Parmer, Christopher Parmer, Michael Standridge 
Jr., Clifford Standridge, Shawn Cato and Jacob Hamby. Honorary pallbearers will 
be Brett Parmer and Walter Conway.
   Mr. Parmer was born July 7, 1931, son of Virgil and Ivey Gosdin Parmer. He 
was a member of Three Pines Baptist Church in Lanett, worked in insurance sales 
and was owner/operator of the Coconut Grove Bar. Mr. Farmer served in the U.S. 
Army during the Korean War.

John Richard Bailey

   (WOODLAND) Services for John Richard Bailey, 87, of Woodland were Sunday, 
March 25, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Church of Christ, with Bro. Ricky 
Murphy and Bro. Wayne Spradlin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Bailey died Friday, March 23, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mr. Bailey was born Dec. 16, 1919, son of John Richard Bailey Sr. and Laura 
Wilson Bailey. He was a member of Mr. Carmel Church of Christ and had been a 
textile worker at Callaway Mills.
   Surviving are three daughters, Rachel Worrell of LaGrange, Ga., and Trudy 
Fincher and Sharon Street of Woodland; a stepdaughter, Yvonne Edwards of 
Opelika; three sisters, Bertha Almond and Earla Spradlin of Woodland and Mavis 
Almon of Lanett; two brothers, T.V. Bailey and R.Z. Bailey of Woodland; eight 
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, 
Auline Bailey; his parents; a granddaughter, Carol Worrell Turner; two 
brothers, Uklet and Audrey Bailey; and a son-in-law, Charles Yarbrough.
   Pallbearers were his grandsons and great-grandsons.

Pernie Agnes Lovett

   (BIRMINGHAM) Pernie Agnes Lovett, 90, of Birmingham died Tuesday, March 20, 
2007, at her residence.
   Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Nicholas Funeral Home Chapel. 
Burial followed in Winston Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Ethridge 
officiating.
   Survivors include one son, Dale Lovett of Cedar Edge, Colo.; two daughters, 
Gail Lovett of Center Point and Kathy Gibbs of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, 
Alpha Cockrell of Haleyville; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 
Mrs. Lovett was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace W. Lovett; an infant 
son; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Cockrell; and her sisters, Lora Peppers 
and Dena Batchelor.
   The Lovetts were former residents of Roanoke while Mr. Lovett served the 
area as the Methodist district superintendent.

Lucille Embory

   (ROANOKE) Lucille Embory, 86, of Roanoke died Saturday, March 27, 2007, at 
Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Funeral services will be held at Sweet Home Baptist Church, Five Points, 
Thursday, March 22, at 1 p.m. CDT with the Rev. W.L. Hutchinson officiating.   
Interment will be at the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the 
church one hour before the service.
   Mrs. Embory was born March 5, 1921, in Chambers County to the late Lorenzo 
and Lelna Hutchinson. She was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church, Five 
Points. Mrs. Embory was preceded in death by her son, Lonnie Embory and her 
daughter, Eldora Head.
   Surviving are one son, Beoties Embory of Newnan; Ga.; two sisters, Annie 
Bell Hutchinson of Roanoke and Mattie Pearl Houston of Dayton, Ohio; one 
daughter-in-law, Cora Mae Embory of Union City, Ga.; one brother-in-law, 
McKinley Houston of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Addie Hutchinson of 
Franklin, Ga., and Lula Pearl Hutchinson of Roanoke; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-
grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and 
friends.

George Fletcher' Christian

   (ALEXANDER CITY) Services for George Fletcher' Christian, 73, of Alexander 
City were Friday, March 23, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Radney Funeral 
Home.  Bro. Steve Dyess officiated.
   Mr. Christian died on Wednesday, March 21, at East Alabama Medical Center, 
Opelika.
   He was born on Sept. 23, 1933, in Tallapoosa County to George Rivers 
Christian and Hassie Upton Christian. He enjoyed gardening, collecting coins, 
Alabama football and traveling.
   He is survived by his wife, Helen Christian of Alexander City; sons, Lee 
George Christian of Carrollton, Ga., John Shane Christian of Jacksonville, Alan 
Fletcher Christian of Roanoke and Joey Hamlet of Daviston; daughters, Dawn 
Denise Bumgardner of Carrollton and Paula Rumsey of Montgomery; and five 
grandchildren.

Joseph Lawrence Keeble

   (MARTINEZ, Ga.) Joseph Lawrence Keeble died on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at 
his residence.
   Mr. Keeble was husband of the late Gertrude C. Keeble. Mr. Keeble was a 
native of Rock Mills, Ala. He spent most of his life in LaGrange and had made 
Martinez his home for the past seven years. He served his country in the U.S. 
Army Air Corps. Mr. Keeble was a retired maintenance supervisor with Callaway 
Mills, and he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in LaGrange.
   Survivors include his daughter, Janice Petsch of Martinez; son, Larry Keeble 
of Martinez; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
   Graveside services were Thursday, March 22, at 4 p.m., in Restlawn Memory

Doris French Taylor Giles

   (ROANOKE) Services for Doris French Taylor Giles of Roanoke will be 
Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with Dr.

Randolph Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Giles died Monday. March 26, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
   Mrs. Giles was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is 
survived by her husband, Euwell Giles of Roanoke; two daughters, Betty Taylor 
Lacy of Lanett and Ginger Taylor Rountree of Hawkinsville, Ga.; three sons, 
Terry Taylor of Roanoke, Tim Taylor of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Bob Taylor of 
Wadley; four sisters, Mary Jim Keaton of Atlanta, Helen Moring and LaVelle 
Langley of Roanoke, and Frances Johnson of McDonough, Ga.; one brother, Hammett 
French of Orangeburg, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
   Mrs. Giles was the daughter of James Monroe and Mary Ella Sikes French. She 
was a member of Forrester's Chapel Methodist Church and had worked as a 
seamstress at numerous plants in the area. She kept the spirit of Christmas 
alive for her family and friends throughout the year. Mrs. Giles was preceded 
in death by husbands, Robert V. Taylor and Crouch Adcock; her parents, Monroe 
and Ella Sikes French; two sisters, Bessie McManus and Cassie Wilson; five 
brothers, Walker, Curtis, Clifford, Alfred, and her twin brother, Horace French.

Mary H. Foster

   (CARROLLTON, Ga.) Mary H. Foster, 87, of Carrollton, Ga., died Sunday, March 
25, 2007, at LaFayette Nursing Home in Fayetteville, Ga.
   Mrs. Foster was born in Carroll County, Ga., on Dec. 24, 1919, daughter of 
the late Robert G. Holcombe and Cora Holloway Holcombe. She was retired from 
J.C. Penny Company, where she worked in the auditing department, and was a 
member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and the Assembly Sunday School Class.
   Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law; James C. and Anne Foster of 
Union City, Ga.; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, 
Audie Holcombe. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 
Carroll S. Foster; and brother, Rev. Albert Holcombe.
   Services will be Wednesday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Almon 
Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerome Mitchell officiating. Music will be provided 
by Brenda Sue Holcombe. Interment will be in Carrollton City Cemetery.
   Pallbearers include Greg Holcombe, Dennis Forman, Bobby Foster, Chris 
Foster, Barry Jones, Robbie Jones, Johnny Jones and Greg Shelnutt.
