Lee Daniel Sprayberry

   (WADLEY) Funeral services for Lee Daniel Sprayberry, 22, of Wadley will be 
Wednesday Oct. 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Wadley Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul 
Wilson, Tripp Skipper and Michael Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 
Wadley Cemetery.
   Mr. Sprayberry will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to 
services.
   Mr. Sprayberry died Monday, Oct. 2, from injuries sustained in an automobile 
accident at Roanoke.
   Survivors include his parents, Jimmy and Sherry Sprayberry of Wadley; his 
grandmothers, Margaret White Sprayberry of Wadley and Ruby Heard Daniel of 
Florence; and a brother, Andrew Charles Sprayberry of Wadley.
   Pallbearers will be Neal Smith, Correy Norred, Luke Sudduth, Patrick George, 
Kevin Caypless and Shane Long.
   Memorials may be floral or the family suggests contributions to Wadley 
Baptist Church or Four Corners Ministries.
   A lifelong Wadley resident, Mr. Sprayberry was born March 7, 1984, son of 
Jimmy Lee and Sharon Daniel Sprayberry. He was a 2002 graduate of Wadley High 
School and a 2004 graduate of Gadsden State Community College-Ayers Campus. He 
was a member of Wadley Baptist Church and was employed with Anniston Army Depot 
as a welder.

Brenda Kay Rooks Burroughs

  (WADLEY) Services for Brenda Kay Rooks Burroughs, 59, of Wadley will be 
Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Hope Memorial Christian Church, with the 
Rev. Kenneth Forsyth and the Rev. Gordon Taylor officiating. Mrs. Burroughs 
will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow 
in Ava United Methodist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Burroughs died Monday, Oct. 2, at Columbus Medical Center, Columbus, Ga.
   Mrs. Burroughs is survived by her husband, Rev. Bobby Burroughs of Wadley; 
one daughter, Rhonda Elliott of Opelika; three sons, Robby Burroughs of 
Opelika, Randy Burroughs of Woodland and Rusty Burroughs of Roanoke; special 
children to the family, Tommy and Danissa Kirk; her mother, Sara Rooks of 
Lineville; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Jimmy Rooks of Delta.
   Pallbearers will be Mark Rooks, Randy Watts, J.T. Royster, John White, Bill 
Johnson, Seth Johnson and Ben Johnson.
   Mrs. Burroughs was born Sept. 15, 1947, daughter of Otis and Sarah 
Sprayberry Rooks. She was a member of Hope Memorial Christian Church, 
administrative assistant for Mohawk Corp., and an avid gospel musician and 
pianist for Gospel Troubadours and the Danny Curtis Singers. Mrs. Burroughs was 
preceded in death by her father, Otis Rooks. Flowers will be accepted or 
donations may be made to Hope Memorial Christian Church.

Grace Brazil

   (EPHESUS, Ga.) Grace Brazil, 85, of Ephesus, Ga., died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006.
   She was born in Randolph County, Ala., July 5, 1921, daughter of the late 
Franklin and Nannie Lee Carson Mitchell. She was a member of Victory Road 
Baptist Church and was a retired employee of LaMar Manufacturing Co.
   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, 
Betty Alewine and Linda Etheridge; and a brother, Eules Parrish.
   Survivors include two sons, Robert Brazil of Atlanta and R.L. Brazil of 
Hogansville, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, 
Paul Parrish of Wadley and Hulon Parrish of Roanoke; three sisters, Ava Bennett 
of West Point, Ga., Christine Lane of Roanoke and Dean Phipps of Lanett.
   Services were Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m.at Victory Road Baptist Church, with 
Bro. Ricky Bice, Bro. Wayne Brown and Bro. R.L. Brazil officiating. Pallbearers 
were James Ray Gosdin, Sam Gosdin, Gerald Loftin, Mitch Bennett, Don Bennett 
and Keith Rivers. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Willie Stillwell

   (ROANOKE) Services for Mrs. Willie Stillwell, 95, of Roanoke were Friday, 
Sept. 29, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Stanley 
Daniel officiating. Burial followed at Welcome Home Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Stillwell died Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   Survivors include two daughters, Annie Joyce Shelnutt of Roanoke and Pat 
Wright Smith of Hickory Flat; one son, William Stillwell of Roanoke; two 
sisters, Anne Herndon of Santa Anna, Calif., and Novice Proctor of Trenton, 
N.J.; one brother, Frank Horn of Panama City, Fla.; one grandchild; and two 
great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Stillwell was born May 26, 1911, daughter of Hoyt L. and Mazie Traylor 
Horn. She was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. 
Stillwell is preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Stillwell, and her parents.

Johnny H. Richardson

   (VALLEY) Johnny H. Richardson, 88, of Valley died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at 
Beverly Health Care, Lanett.
   Mr. Richardson was born in Langdale June 10, 1918. He was employed by West 
Point Pepperell for many years, working at the Lanett and Shamut mills. He also 
owned and operated a service station in the Valley area for 22 years. After he 
retired he served as a county commissioner. He was of the Christian faith and a 
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
   Survivors include two daughters, Denise Pierce and Teresa Mullenix of 
Mississippi; three sisters, Flossie Craft of Randolph County, Carrie "Becky" 
Hollis of Cusseta and Jeanette Sims of Valley; a brother, Herbert Richardson of 
Valley; and five grandchildren.
   Services will be at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley at 2 
p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, with burial in Johnson Memorial Gardens. The Rev. 
Rusty Letson will officiate.

Laura Bell Wright

   (ROANOKE) Services for Laura Bell Wright, 76, of Roanoke were Saturday, 
Sept. 30, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald 
Sheppard officiating. Burial followed at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mrs. Wright died Wednesday, Sept. 27, at, her home.
   Survivors include two daughters, Linda Ann Wright of Roanoke and Rebecca 
Jean Mitchell of Roanoke; one son, Bobby Lee Wright of LaGrange, Ga.; seven 
grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
   Pallbearers were Gary Wright, Lee Wright, Michael Sprouse, Wayne Edmondson, 
Matthew Mitchell and Jonathan Gurley.
   Mrs. Wright was born April 18, 1930, daughter of Carol and Alice Aldridge 
Ussery. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and had been a spinner for 
West Point Stevens. Mrs. Wright is preceded in death by her husband, Osbon 
Wright, and her parents.

Ocie Carter Cofield

   (NEWELL) Services for Ocie Carter Cofield, 81, of Newell were Tuesday, Oct. 
3, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Julian Murphy, 
Lewis Cushing and Mike Drummond officiating.   Burial followed in Union Baptist 
Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Cofield died Sunday, Oct. 1, at his home.
   Mr. Cofield is survived by one daughter, Vickie McWhorter of LaFayette; 
three sons, Jerry and Patrick Cofield of Valley, and Randy Cofield of Roanoke; 
one sister, Dean Lovvorn of Newell; two brothers, Eddie Cofield of Newell and 
Dalton Cofield of Pine Hill; ex-wife and caregiver, Velma Orr; five 
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Garland Loveless, Wilbur McCullough, Charlie Clark, Dan 
Davis, Jose McCollough, Richard Craft, Billy Cofield and Bobby Cofield.
   Mr. Cofield was born Feb. 27, 1925, son of Millard and Ina Stewart Cofield. 
He was of the Baptist faith and had worked for Randolph County as a truck 
driver for 18 years. Mr. Cofield is preceded in death by his parents and one 
son, Terry Michael Cofield.

John Mackie Teate

   (BOWDON, Ga.) John Mackie Teate, DVM, 79, died Sept. 28, 2006, following a 
lengthy illness.
   Dr. Teate was born in Atlanta on Dec. 4, 1926, son of the late Dalton and 
Ethel Dorris Teate. A graduate from Tech High in Atlanta, he served in the 
Maritime Service, the U.S. State Army Corp of Engineers and the 82nd Airborne 
Division. Upon completing his military duty, he worked at Lockheed Aircraft for 
a time until he realized a need for veterinary services in Bowdon and decided 
to return to college. Teate studied at West Georgia College then transferred to 
the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1946. 
He opened the first veterinary clinic in Bowdon. After his retirement in 1989 
he continued to practice veterinary medicine part-time in Bowdon and in Alabama 
until November 2005. He had a great love of animals.
   Teate, a member of Bowdon Baptist Church, enjoyed singing in the choir, 
service as a deacon and on various committees, and Sunday school teacher. He 
was a member of the Bowdon Masonic Lodge and the Little River Gun Club.
   Survivors include his devoted wife of 57 years, Rebecca Wilson Teate; three 
children Steven Teate, Doug Teate and Lee Teate Haynes; four grandchildren; 
three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-
grandchildren; and other relatives.
   Services were at Bowdon Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m., 
with the Rev. Mark Standridge and the Rev. Wesley Forrester officiating. 
Pallbearers were Jimmy Boatright, Jimmy Kemp, Howard Morris, Dan Craven, Brent 
McCaghren, James Duke, Jerry Johnston and Weyman Cheatwood. Honorary 
pallbearers were members of the Searchers Sunday School Class and Bowdon Lodge 
F&AM #206. Interment followed in Bowdon City Cemetery.

Lena Pearl Rowland

   (HOBSON CITY) Lena Pearl Rowland, 91, of Hobson City died Wednesday, Sept. 
27, 2006, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.
   She is survived by five grandchildren, Dolrenay Harris of Anniston, Wanda 
Whitley of Ft. McCoy, Wis., Derrick Smith of Acworth, Ga., Frederick Smith of 
Columbus, Ga., and Leon Smith of Montgomery; 18 great-grandchildren; three 
great-great-grandchildren; and one niece.
   Mrs. Rowland was a Randolph County native and a member of New Hope Baptist 
Church. Mrs. Rowland was cremated at her request and private services will be 
at a later date for family members.

Christine Staples Presley

   (WADLEY) Christine Staples Presley, 67, of Wadley died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, 
at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
   Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist 
Church, Wadley, with the Rev. Tom Staples Jr. officiating. Interment will be in 
the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church one hour 
before the service.
   Mrs. Presley was born Dec. 25, 1938, in Tallapoosa County to the late Roy 
and Hattie Staples. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
   Surviving are one sister, Betty Nathan of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, Tom 
Staples and Billy Staples of Wadley and Nolan Staples of Toledo, Ohio; a caring 
friend, Christine Johnson of Wadley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and 
other loving friends.

Vernice Pauline' Barnett

   (CONYERS, Ga.) Vernice "Pauline" Barnett, 91, of Conyers, Ga., died 
Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006.
Services were Friday, Sept. 22, at Horis A. Ward's Rockdale Chapel at 10 a.m. 
with the Rev. Reese Sanders officiating. Interment was at Fairview Memorial 
Gardens in Stockbridge, Ga.
   A native of Alabama, Mrs, Barnett worked until she was 70 years old at 
McGilvray's ladies clothing store in Roanoke. She moved to Conyers in 1986. She 
was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Covington, Ga., and loved gardening.
   Mrs. Barnett is survived by a daughter, Betty Peer of Conyers; two 
granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a 
sister, Mae Wells of Hartselle; three brothers, Tom Prestridge of Lanett and 
Bill Prestridge of Camden, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Ethridge Barnett; a step-son, Herbert 
Barnett; a grandson, Michael Peer; and a brother, James Prestridge.

Curtis James Freeman

   (BIG LAKE, Alaska) Curtis James Freeman, 67, of Big Lake, Alaska, died 
Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at his residence.
   Mr. Freeman was a native of Randolph County, born Dec. 2, 1938. He retired 
from the Veterans Administration in Anchorage, Alaska, after 20 years of 
service. He was an avid fisherman and antique car enthusiast. He loved flowers 
and enjoyed working in his garden. He was a member of Taylor's Crossroads 
Church of Christ, Roanoke.
   Surviving are a daughter, Ada Zoe Freeman of Portland, Ore.; his mother, 
Mary Scott Freeman of Valley; three sisters, Joann Melton of Valley, Jeanette 
F. Herren of Woodland and Linda Smith of Phenix City; and many nieces and 
nephews.
   Memorial services will be at Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ at 2 p.m. 
Saturday, Oct. 14, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Bro. Donald Thompson 
and Bro. Bill Prince Jr. will officiate.
   In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local 
homeless shelter in his memory.
   The family will receive friends Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Johnson Brown-
Service Funeral Home in Valley.

R.B. Pete' Potter

   (ROANOKE) R. B. Pete Potter, 68, of 459 Clark Street, Roanoke, died 
Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006.
   Graveside services were Monday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at Old Pleasant Grove 
Cemetery, County Road 1, Wedowee. The Rev. Robert L. Heflin and the Rev. Calvin 
Trammell officiated.
   Survivors include his mother, Emma Sue Wilson of Roanoke; a son, Ralph 
Potter of Newnan, Ga.; four daughters, Louise Holliday, Sara Poythress and Eris 
Potter of Newnan and Emma Sue Potter of Atlanta; a sister, Viola Huffman of 
Roanoke; and a brother, Otis Wilson of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his 
wife, Mamie Potter; two sons, R.B. Potter Jr. and Willie Potter; and a brother, 
Mack Potter.

Olin J. Hurst

   (LINEVILLE) Services for Olin J. Hurst, 85, of Lineville were Oct. 7, 2006, 
at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church with the Revs. Pat Hurst 
and Frank Rasbury officiating. Military honors followed in the adjoining 
cemetery.
   Mr. Hurst died Thursday, Oct. 5, at Clay County Hospital.
   He was a native of Clay County, a former resident of Oxford, but had moved 
back to Clay County in 1952. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in 
the U.S. Army, where he was a Silver Star Recipient. He had worked in Civilian 
Conservation Corporation, but had worked most of his life as a brick mason and 
sawmill operator. He attended Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church and 
also Union D. Baptist Church.
   He survived by his wife, Dorris Watts Hurst of Lineville; two sons, Buster 
Hurst of Wedowee and Stanley Hurst of Lineville; one brother, Girley Hurst of 
Long Island, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four 
brothers, Freddie Hurst, Jordan Hurst, Otis Hurst and Clayton Hurst and a 
sister, Gertrude Hurst.
   Active pallbearers were Rodney Hurst, Edwin Hurst, Jerry Sims, Jason Sims, 
Gerald Short and Billy Hollen.
   Memorial contributions can be made to Oak Grove Congregational Methodist 
Church Cemetery Fund.

Eunice Ramona Cooley

   (WEDOWEE) Eunice Ramona Cooley, 77, of Wedowee died Oct. 6, 2006.
   A wife, mother and educator, she taught in local schools, primarily in 
Calhoun County. She loved reading, music and gardening. Ms. Cooley graduated 
from Jacksonville State University and Peabody Teachers College with a master's 
in education. She was the daughter of Nettie Parker Haynes and C.E. Haynes.
   She is survived by her brothers and sisters, David Haynes, James Haynes, 
Julia Ann Poole and Clyde Crofoot; and her daughter, Patricia Mitchell. A 
private service will be held with the immediate family at a later date.
   In lieu of flowers, please offer prayers for peace and donations sent to the 
National Alliance for Mental Illness.

Thelma Gaines Anderson

   (ANNISTON) In celebration of her life, services for Thelma Gaines Anderson, 
83, of Anniston were at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Gray Brown-Service 
Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ken Bailey officiating. Burial followed at Noon 
Day Cemetery in Randolph County.
   Mrs. Anderson died Thursday, Oct. 5, at Regional Medical Center, Anniston.
   Survivors include three sons, James F. Anderson of Alexandria, Gregory R. 
Anderson of Jacksonville and Phillip C. Anderson of Anniston; four 
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Gaines of 
Huntsville; and one sister, Mary Frances Hollingsworth of Steele.
   Pallbearers were Kenny Dishman, Larry Ford, Jack Ginn, Josh Fielding, Brian 
Anderson and Stan Anderson.
   Mrs. Anderson was a native of Arkansas and a resident of Calhoun County for 
the past 58 years. She was a member of Pelham Baptist Church, where she taught 
the Joy Sunday School Class for many years.    Mrs. Anderson was a U.S. Navy 
veteran. She retired from the Anniston Army Depot after 42 years of service.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Anderson; a daughter, Mary 
Susan Anderson; and a brother, Billy Gaines.

Zack W. Payne

  (DADEVILLE) Services for Zack W. Payne, 84, of Dadeville were at 2 p.m. 
Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Chapel of Alabama Funeral Homes in Dadeville, with

followed at Concord Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Dickert community 
in Randolph County.
   Mr. Payne died Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Bill Nichols V.A. Home in Alexander City.
   He was born March 6, 1922, in Spalding County, Ga., to the late Claude Payne 
and Bertha Buchanan Payne. Mr. Payne served in the U.S. Army during World War 
II.
   He is survived by four sons Robert Payne of Burlington, Vt., Gerald Payne of 
Dadeville, Richard Payne of Roanoke and Donald Payne of Dadeville; two 
daughters, Jean Payne Slagle of Roanoke and Dorothy Payne Hodge of Dadeville; 
one sister, Jeanette Sikes of Griffin, Ga.; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-
grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae Sexton Payne; three 
brothers, Billy, Elmo and Drewery Payne; and one sister, Beatrice Payne.

   (LAFAYETTE) Kate Cole, 94, of LaFayette died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at 
LaFayette Nursing Home.
   Services were at LaFayette Heights Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 
8, with interment at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery. The Rev. Paul 
Howard officiated.
   Mrs. Cole was born in Chambers County Nov. 24, 1911. She was retired from 
West Point Pepperell and was a homemaker. She was a member of Milltown 
Methodist Church.
   Survivors include three sons, the Rev. John Franklin Cole Sr. of LaFayette, 
Steve Evans Cole of Roanoke and Tyre Cole of Wadley; one sister, Calvin Weaver 
of LaFayette; six grand-children; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-
grandchildren.

Willie Brown

   (LINEVILLE) Services for Willie "Brown Mule" Brown, 70 of Lineville, were 
Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Springhill Baptist Church in Lineville 
with the Rev. Charles. Caldwell officiating. Burial was in the Lineville City 
Cemetery.
   Mr. Brown died on Oct. 3, at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.
   Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Lincoln and a member of Young's Chapel 
Church of Lineville. He was self-employed.
   Survivors include his wife, Annie C. Brown of Lineville; ten daughters, 
Nettie Fuller of Atlanta, Brenda Ways of Brooklyn. N.Y., Virginia Dunn, Geneva 
Garrett, Debra Shepard and Margo Bishop, all of Lineville, Regina Heard of 
Hubert, N.C., Brenda Knight of Wedowee and Cynthia Broom and Dorothea Brown of

   (ROANOKE) Services for Danny Harold Shelnutt, 46, will be Thursday, Oct. 12,

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on 
Wednesday, Oct. 11.
   Mr. Shelnutt died Sunday, Oct. 8, in Meadowview, Va. Survivors include one 
sister, Donna Arrington of Roanoke; Dennis Shelnutt of Roanoke; companion, Beth 
McCorkle of Phenix City; nieces and nephews.
   Pallbearers will be Mike Morman, Shane Whitten, Eugene Shelnutt, Josh

   Mr. Shelnutt was born March 24, 1960, son of Harold and Doris Wright 
Shelnutt. He was a truck driver for Alabama Motor Express. Mr. Shelnutt was 
preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale Shelnutt.

   Mr. Hadley died Sunday, Oct. 8, at Lineville Nursing Home.
   Mr. Hadley is survived by his wife, Adean Hadley of Newell; one daughter, 
Elaine McCain of Newell; one son, Max Hadley of Newell; one sister, Isabeth 
Murphy of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
  Pallbearers were Matt Crowson, Jimmy McCain, Jimmy Cofield, Richard Craft, 
Michael Stewart and Wayne Huddleston.
   Mr. Hadley was born March 4, 1919, the son of Robert Emmett and Susan 
Cynthia Wilder Hadley. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and owner of 
Hadley's Grocery for 55 years. Mr. Hadley was a U.S. Army Veteran, served 
during World War II and was one of the first wave of the D-day Invasion. He was 
preceded in death by one brother, Wilder Hadley.

Charles Vinson Jr.
   (ROANOKE) Services for Charles Vinson Jr., 87, of Roanoke were Monday, Oct. 
16, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Phillip 
Russell and the Rev. John Mann officiating. Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery.
   Mr. Vinson died Saturday, Oct. 14, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
   Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Robinson and Linda Adamson of 
Roanoke and Carla Langley of LaFayette; two sons, Bill Vinson of Roanoke and 
Don Vinson of Alexander City; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He 
was preceded in death by two wives, Billie Vinson and Elizabeth B. Vinson; and 
a son, Charles Dobson Vinson.
   A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Vinson was born in Lano, Texas, on 
April 23, 1919, son of Charles Henry and Ruth Jones Vinson. We was a World War 
II Army veteran, a member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke, and the owner and 
operator of Vinson's Grocery.

A.C. Manley

   (WEST POINT, Ga.) A.C. Manley, 81, of West Point, Ga., died Sunday, Oct. 15, 
2006, at his residence.
   Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. EDT at McCarthy Funeral Home 
in West Point with the Rev. Frank Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at 
Marseilles Cemetery in West Point.
   Born May 1, 1925, in Randolph County, Mr. Manley was the son of the late 
Daisy Allison Manley and the late Andrew Cleveland Manley. He was a graduate of 
Handley High School in Roanoke and attended West Georgia College in Carrollton. 
Mr. Manley served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He started out as a 
police officer with the City of West Point and retired as building inspector 
after 29 years of service to the city. He was a member of Bartley Road Church 
of Christ.
   Mr. Manley is survived by his son, Charles Manley of LaGrange, Ga.; a very 
special friend, Lucile Rochester of West Point; seven grandchildren; 23 great-
grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.       Mr. Manley was preceded in 
death by his brother, Aaron Manley, and his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Dale 
Manley.

   Mrs. Barber died Saturday, Oct. 14, at Traylor Nursing Home in Roanoke.

Atlanta.
   A lifelong Chambers County resident, Mrs. Barber was born June 11, 1913, 
daughter of Hezekiah and Mae Dell Holladay Ester. She was a member of Standing 
Rock United Methodist Church and retired from Lanett Mills. She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Dennis Barber.

   Mr. Moncree was born Feb. 9, 1941, the son of Acey and Mazie Lipham Moncree. 
He was a self-employed construction electrician and had served in the U.S. Air 
Force as a senior master sergeant during the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. Mr. 
Moncree built power plants and electrical supply while serving. He wrote three 
books, Habu and the Dragon Lady Behind the Scenes, Alaska Eight Stars to Guide 
Me and Electrical Power for Mobile Operations. Mr. Moncree was preceded by his 
parents; and two children, Adonica and Jerry Jr. Moncree.

   (TROUP COUNTY, Ga.) Lemerle Dutton, 101, of the Hillcrest community near 
LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Twin Fountains Nursing Home.
   Mrs. Dutton was born June 18, 1905, in Camp Hill and was the daughter of the 
late Columbus Whitlow and Mamie Lee Ray Golden. She was a homemaker and a 
member of Hillcrest First Baptist Church.
   Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Kay Golden of Roanoke; three 
grandchildren, Linda Golden Smith of Roanoke, Thomas Golden of LaGrange, and 
Jamie Golden and William Fulghum, both of Mississippi; eight great-
grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Pat Norris of 
Newell; and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester C. 
Dutton, and a son, Gains E. Golden.

from the pulpwood business and was a member of Milltown Baptist Church.

   Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Landreau of Milltown; three sisters, Ann

   (MIDLAND, Ga.) Wendell J. Edmondson, 72, of Midland, Ga., died Friday, Oct. 
20, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, Ga., after an extended illness.

Monday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. with Minister Ricky Martin officiating. Interment

   Mr. Edmondson was born July 1, 1934, in Randolph County, son of the late 
Perry L. Edmondson and Mary Will Crenshaw Edmondson. He lived in the Columbus 
area since 1954. Mr. Edmondson served in the U.S. Army for three years and 
later retired from civil service after serving in the telephone exchange at 
Fort Benning, Ga. He was Church of Christ by faith.
   Mr. Edmondson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Retha H. Edmondson of 
Midland; one daughter, Joy Edmondson Hemphill of Spring, Texas; two sons, 
Philip W. Edmondson of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and Donald Edmondson of Midland;

   Mrs. Timek was born Aug. 6, 1917, daughter of Silas and Queen Strickland

played the piano there for 67 years. Mrs. Timek had been an LPN for Traylor 
Nursing Home.

   (CHESAPEAKE, Va.) William Bartow Tennant, 91, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, in 
Chesapeake, Va.
   He was predeceased by his loving wife, Clara Randolph Tennant; and daughters 
Linda and Nancy. He is survived by his sons, John W. Tennant of Virginia Beach, 
Va., and Christopher A. Tennant of Joliet, Ill.; one grandson; a brother, 
Charles Tennant of Dublin, Ga.; and sisters Sara Benefield of Hoover, Ala., and 
Mary Jane Shumate of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
   Mr. Tennant was a native of Randolph County, son of the late Charles and 
Nancy Carpenter Tennant. He was a retired Navy veteran of World War II.
   Services were Thursday, Oct. 12, at the graveside in Chesapeake Memorial 
Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in

   Mrs. Morrow was born Feb. 29, 1920, daughter of Leondis and Dora E. Dewberry
