OBITUARIES:

Bill M. Hall

 (WOODVILLE) Bill M. Hall, 86, of Woodville died Thursday, May 29, 1997, 
at Jackson County Hospital in Scottsboro.
 The funeral was at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, from Skyline Church of God, the
Rev. Jerry Glenn and the Rev. J. D. Golden officiating. Burial was in Gold
Cemetery.
 Mr. Hall's survivors include his wife, Clera Wilkins Hall of Woodville; his
daughter, Frances Lorene Hall Biggs of Wedowee; his son, Flavius J. Hall of
Harriman, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his sister,
Lydia Bellomy of Skyline; and several nieces and nephews.
 Scottsboro Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jim Tom Smith

 (ROANOKE) Jim Tom Smith, 78, of Roanoke died Thursday, May 29, 1997 
at University of Alabama Medical Center, Birmingham.
 Funeral services for Mr. Smith were Saturday, May 31, at 2:30 p.m. at Mount
Bethel United Methodist Church, Roanoke, with the Rev. Michael Strong
officiating. Burial was in Peace and Good Will Baptist Church Cemetery,
Roanoke.
 Survivors include two sisters, Annie Jones of Roanoke and Mary W. Boyd of
Anniston; and several nieces and nephews.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, Mose and Bertie Bell Smith; and a
brother, Charlie Smith.
 Clark Memorial Funeral Service of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Nicole Stewart

 (FIVE POINTS) Funeral services for Frances Nicole Stewart, 15, of Five
Points, were Sunday, June 1, 1997, at 2 p.m. CDT at Langdale United Methodist
Church, with the Rev. S. T. Janney officiating. Burial was at Langdale Cemetery.
 Miss Stewart died on Thursday, May 29, from injuries sustained in a traffic
accident.
 A Chambers County resident, she was born Nov. 29, 1981, in Bay County, Fla. 
She was a student of LaFayette High School and a member of LaFayette High School
Band.
 Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Cindy Teresa and Craig E. Kirby
of Five Points; her father, Alonzo Francis Stewart, of Stewart, Fla.; her
grandparent, Mrs. Minnie Lynn of Florida; step-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James
Kirby of Five Points; two sisters, Minnie Lynn of Port St. Joe, Fla., and Tonya
Kirby of Five Points; two brothers, Henry Mitchell Kirby and Michael Kirby of
Five Points.
 Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke, was in charge of arrangements.

Rodney Earl White

 (WOODLAND) Rodney Earl White, 46, of County Road 87, Woodland, died Tuesday,
June 3, 1997, at his residence.
 Mr. White was born in Jackson County, Miss., April 4, 1951, son of Joel C. and 
Mary Lee Henderson White. He was an employee of Bremen-Bowdon Investment
Company as a maintenance manager.
 Survivors include his wife, Berna Hendrix White; his parents, Joel C. Jr. and
Mary Lee Henderson White of Woodland; a daughter, Amanda Farmer of Bowdon, Ga.;
one granddaughter; a brother, Gary Lee White of Woodland; a sister, Susan White
Gay of Woodland; and nieces and nephews.
 Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 4, at 3 p.m. (Ga. time) at Bethel
East Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ridley Parmer and the Rev. Stiles Akin
officiating. Music will be by the church choir. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
 Pallbearers will be Tony Wiggins, Rex Gosdin, Randy Gosdin, Barry Cofield,
Donny Henderson and Basil Snyder. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Partlow
and W. D. Yates.
 The body will be at the funeral home until being placed in state at the
church at 2 p.m.

Robert M. Wier

 (WEDOWEE) Robert M. Wier, 75, of Wedowee died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, 
in Wedowee Hospital after a short illness.
 Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 5, with the Rev. Cloyse Johnson 
officiating. Services were at Green's Chapel Methodist Church, with burial in the 
Waco Cemetery in Harrelson County, Ga. Graveside services were in Waco at 3:30 p.m. 
Thursday.
 Mr. Wier is survived by his wife, Mary Browning Wier of Wedowee; two
daughter[s], Ginny Prater of Bowdon, Ga., and Donna Sue Holland of Carrollton,
Ga.; two stepdaughters, Janice Browning of Ranburne and Kathy Quinn of Wellborn,
17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four stepsons, Wayne Browning of
Wedowee, Jerry Browning and Edwin Browning of Woodland, and Michael Browning 
Of Carrollton; and three brothers, Bill Wier of Wedowee, Shaff Wier of Roanoke, and
Max Wier of West Palm Beach, Fla.
 Pallbearers were family members.
 Mr. Wier was born on June 24, 1921, the son of Swancea Wier and Oralee
Entrekin Wier. He was a native of Randolph County. He was a veteran of World
War II and a self-employed businessman. He was a member of Green's Chapel
Methodist Church.
 Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements.

James Edgar Carson

 (WADLEY) Funeral services for James Edgar "Ed" Carson, 83, of Wadley were
Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Hope Memorial Christian Church, with the
Revs. Bobby Burroughs and Larry Conger officiating. Burial was in Forrester's
Chapel Cemetery. 
 Mr. Carson died Sunday, June 8, at his home after a short illness.
 A Randolph County native and lifelong resident of the Wadley area, he was
born December 15, 1913, son of George Walter and Carrie Pearson Carson. He was a
member and a deacon of Hope Memorial Christian Church, a World War II army
veteran, and self-employed wood producer.
 Survivors include his wife, Ethel Gray Carson of Wadley; one daughter, Gwen
Carson Barton of Tifton, Ga.; two sons, Mike Carson of Alexander City and Steve
Carson of Wadley; three grandchildren; one sister, Edna Harris of Oxford; and
four brothers, Elton Carson of Opelika, Neal Carson of Wadley, Harlice Carson of
Phenix City and Fred Carson of Ashland.
 Pallbearers were Jeff Langley, Robby Burroughs, Ricky Noles, Mike Taylor,
Douglas Kirby and Gene Taylor.
 Honorary pallbearers were Paul Parrish, Fred Bailey, Donnie Perry and Fred
Nixon.
 Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.

Marion Edward Daniel

 (ROANOKE) Marion Edward "Ed" Daniel, 71, of 1348 Co. Rd. 45, Roanoke, died
Tuesday, June 3, 1997, in the VA Hospital, Birmingham.
 Funeral services were in Benefield Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday,
June 5, with burial in Randolph Memory Gardens. The Rev. Cal Ledbetter
officiated.
 Mr. Daniel is survived by his wife, Mrs. Reatha Daniel of Roanoke; one
daughter, Rhonda Hollis of Oregon and three grandchildren; five sisters, Gladys
Vice of Bowdon, Ga., Margaret Woodhouse of Durham, N.C., Nell Warren of
California, Evelyn Bond of Mississippi and Lillian Gibbs of Ranburne; two
brothers, Guy Gay Daniel of California and Ray Daniel of Newell; and a host of
nieces and nephews.
 Pallbearers were Gary Holloway, Buddy Holloway, Jay Phillips, Marty Williams,
Ricky Gibbs and Robert Gibbs.
 Mr. Daniel was a native of Randolph County, born Aug. 12, 1925, the son of
Marion Daniel and Mattie Ashley. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of
Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, and a self-employed carpenter.

Gregory Wayne Pettit

 (ROANOKE) Gregory Wayne Pettit, 29, of Roanoke, died Wednesday June 4, 1997
in Chambers County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Memorial
services were Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Alabama Funeral Homes
in Dadeville.
 Survivors of Mr. Pettit include his parents, Richard Alan Pettit and Linda
Sue Pettit of Dadeville; paternal grandmother, Mrs., Grace Lock Pettit of Milan,
Ind.; half-sister, Manessa Pettit of Indianapolis, Ind.; three brothers, Richard
Alan Pettit, Jr., of Milan, Ind., Jon David Pettit of Roanoke and Paul Brian of
Spanish Fort; several nieces and nephews. 
 The family requested the omission of flowers, but donations may be made to
the Gregory Wayne Pettit Memorial Fund at The Bank of Dadeville.
 Alabama Funeral Homes of Dadeville was in charge of arrangements.

James Adamson

 (UNION CITY, Ga.) Funeral services for James Adamson, 61, of Union City, Ga.,
were Monday, June 2, 1997 at 12 p.m. CDT at Gus Thornhill's Funeral Home Chapel,
with the Rev. Dwight Foster officiating. Burial was at College Park Memorial
Cemetery.		
 Mr. Adamson died on Thursday, May 29, after a short illness.
 He was born to the late Mr. Raymond Sr. and Ida Adamson on April 16, 1936 in
Roanoke, Ala.
 He is survived by his wife, Ms. Mary Shennett Adamson; one stepdaughter, Ms.
Hazel Shennett; two stepsons, James Shennett and Lonnie Shennett; two brothers,
Thomas Adamson and Raymond Adamson of Roanoke; two sisters, Ms. Naomi Bell of
Newport News, Va., and Ms. Janie Adamson of Columbia, S.C.; one uncle; one aunt;
eight step-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and other living
relatives and friends.
 Gus Thornhill's Funeral Home, East Point, was in charge of arrangements.

Herbert Hoover Wilson

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Herbert Hoover Wilson, 79, of Roanoke will be
Wednesday , June 11, 1997, at 3 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the
Revs. Roy Partner and Earl Rollins officiating. Burial will follow at Center
Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
 Mr. Wilson died Monday, June 9, at Randolph County Hospital.
 A lifelong Randolph County resident, he was born October 20, 1917, son of
Walter Winfield and Sarah Elizabeth Moore Wilson. He was a World War II navy
veteran and had worked as the custodian for Rock Mills School. 
 Survivors include his wife, Retter Mae Hyatt Wilson of Roanoke, one daughter,
Jackie Hester of Roanoke; three sisters, Rebecca Smith and Eura Clack of Roanoke
and Mary Sabo of Redondo Beach, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-
grandchildren.
 Pallbearers will be Perry Wilson, Edward Clark, Marshall Wilson, Mike Hyatt,
Ricky Harmon and Ricky Cofield.

Sherry Dalton

 (PHENIX CITY) Sherry Rodgers Dalton, 49, formerly of Phenix City, died
Wednesday, June 4, 1997 at Hospice in LaGrange, Ga.
 Graveside services were at 3 p.m. EDT on Saturday, June 7, at Lakeview Memory
Gardens in Phenix City, with Pastor C. W. Pruitt officiating.
 Mrs. Dalton was born Jan. 14, 1948, in Phenix City, daughter of George
Rodgers of Bayville, N.C. and Bernice Myrick Day of Phenix City. She was a
homemaker and a member of First Church of the Nazarene.
 Survivors other than her parents are her husband, James Ray Dalton of
Roanoke; one son, James Ray Dalton II of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two brothers, 
Dana Rodgers and Ken Day of Phenix City.
 Arrangements were by Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City.

Robert Keith Cone

 (SMYRNA, Ga.) Robert Keith Cone, 82, of Smyrna, formerly of West Point, Ga.,
died Thursday, June 5, 1997.
 He is survived by his wife, Mary Jim Cone of Smyrna, formerly of West Point,
Ga.; daughter, Annette Cone-Skelton of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, Roger K. Cone of
Marietta, Ga., and Charles A. Cone of Atlanta; five grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
 Services for Mr. Cone were at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at First United
Methodist Church in West Point with Dr. William Burch and the Rev. James W.
Thurman, Jr. officiating. Burial was in LaGrange at Hillview Annex Cemetery.
 He was a World War II veteran, U.S. Navy, a member of First United Methodist
Church of West Point, was a retired overseer for the cotton textile industry
throughout Georgia and Alabama, and was a member of American Legion Post 75,
LaGrange, Division "Forty and Eight".
 Castellaw Funeral Home, Smyrna, was in charge of local arrangements, and
McCarthy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements in West Point.

Clara Belle Martin

 (ROANOKE) Graveside services for Clara Belle Martin, 91, of Roanoke will be
Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at 2 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke with the
Rev. Ladd Williams officiating.
 Mrs. Martin died Tuesday, June 17, at Traylor's Nursing Home in Roanoke.
 A lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was born April 26, 1906, daughter
of John E. and Mae Belle Parrish. She was a member of Lowell United Methodist
Church and had been self-employed in the retail clothing business.
 She is survived by one sister, Mildred Dudley, of Roanoke, and several nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alford, and her son,
Milton.
 The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 
on Wednesday, June 18.

Ethel Saxon

 (WOODLAND) Ethel Saxon, 91, of Rt. 2, Woodland, died Friday, June 13, 1997,
at Autumn Square Nursing Home, Carrollton, Ga.
 She was born in Randolph County December 20, 1905, daughter of the late
Willis Monroe and Ellen Sewell Johnson. Mrs. Saxon was a lifelong resident of
this area, a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Graham, and a homemaker.
 Her husband, John D. Saxon, preceded her in death in 1984.
 Survivors include her daughter, Sue Langdon of Carrollton; two grandchildren;
her brother, Ernest Johnson of Graham; and many nieces and nephews.
 Funeral services were Sunday, June 15, at 3 p.m. EDT at Shiloh Baptist
Church, with the Rev. Tony Morris officiating. Music was by the church choir. 
Interment was in the church cemetery.

Pauline W. Fomby

 (COLUMBUS, Ga.) Funeral services for Pauline W. Fomby, 73, of Columbus, Ga.,
were Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the
Rev. Ricky Emery officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
 Mrs. Fomby died Sunday, June 15, at Brian Center Nursing Home in LaGrange.
 A native and former resident of Randolph County, she was born December 7,
1923, daughter of Paul and Ollie Williams. She was a member of Oaks Avenue
Baptist Church in Columbus and had been employed with A.H.P. Medical. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Jim Fomby.
 Survivors include two sisters, Mabell Brooks of LaGrange and Flonnie Robinson
of Roanoke; and five brothers, Charlie, Robert, and Harold Williams of Roanoke,
Myrl Williams of Geraldine, and Ernest Williams of LaGrange.

Beulah M. Duffee

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Beulah M. Duffee, 80, of Roanoke were Friday,
June 13, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
Timothy Teague officiating. Burial was at Concord Church Cemetery.
 Mrs. Duffee died Wednesday, June 11, at Randolph County Hospital after an
extended illness.
 A Randolph County native, she was born Dec. 15, 1916, daughter of David M.
and Beulah Carpenter McCullough. She was retired from Palm Beach Company and was
a member of Roanoke Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband,
James L. Duffee; a sister, Martha M. Gooden; and two brothers, J. W. McCullough
and Reuben D. McCullough.
 Survivors include one sister, Rena J. Whitley of Roanoke; four brothers, Rev.
Ernest McCullough, A. G. McCullough and Robert McCullough, all of Roanoke, and
Sam McCullough of Colleyville, Texas.
 Pallbearers were Ronnie Harper, Bob Wylie, Roby Wylie, Matthew Wylie, David
Whitley, Douglas Brown, Danny Mitchell, Ralph Gooden Jr., Ralph Gooden III and
Lavelle Gooden Sr.

Onnie Inez Washington Payne

 (DECATUR) Onnie Inez Washington Payne, 93, of Medical Park Convalescence
Center, Decatur, Ala., formerly of Randolph County, died June 12, 1997, in
Decatur.
 Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in Benefield Funeral Home
Chapel with the Revs. Tom Roberts and Earl Gordon officiating. Burial was in
the Wedowee City Cemetery.
 Mrs. Payne is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Payne Quinn of Decatur; one
son, Alon Payne of Powder Springs, Ga.; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren 
and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Idell Parker of Woodland and 
Una Mae Harmon and Burma Abernathy of Roanoke; and one brother, Clifford 
Washington of Manassas, Va.
 Pallbearers were Jeff Payne, Jeff Setell, Barry Payne, James Manley, Fred Kirby, 
Morris Borden and Eddie Borden.
 Mrs. Payne was a native of Randolph County, born May 30, 1904, daughter of 
J. D. Washington and Docie Burns Washington. She was a retired florist and a
member of First United Methodist Church of Wedowee, John Randolph Chapter of 
DAR and Eastern Star.
 The family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church,
Wedowee.

Diane McManus Evans

 (PRATTVILLE) Diane McManus Evans, 53, of Prattville died Thursday, June 12,
1997, at her residence. Funeral services were Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m.
from Prattville Memorial Chapel, Dr. Travis Coleman officiating. A private
graveside service followed with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing.
 Mrs. Evans had been a teacher for 25 years. She is survived by her husband,
R. Dale Evans of Prattville; two daughters, Carolyn Evans Stinson of Madison and
Shanda Diane Evans of Prattville; her parents, Jesse Ray Sr. and Loette McManus
of LaGrange, Ga.; and a brother, Jay McManus of Northern Ireland. Her maternal
grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Elias Fincher of Roanoke, and her
paternal grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Ame McManus of Wedowee.
 Active pallbearers were Don Moore, Alex Edgeworth, Aaron Edwards, Tim Rhodes,
Stan Magdon, Steve Chromey, Dr. Patrick Trotter and Pat Lisenby.

Martha Ellen Perry

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Martha Ellen Perry, 86, of Roanoke were
Friday, June 13, 1997, from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Barry
Cosper and Hugh Vines officiating. Burial was at Midway Methodist Church
Cemetery.
 Mrs. Perry died suddenly Wednesday, June 11, at her home.
 A lifelong Roanoke resident, she was born Aug. 22, 1910, daughter of Thomas
Clark and Emma Viola Johnston Williamson. She was a homemaker and a member of
Radney's Chapel Methodist Church.
 Survivors include one daughter, Becky Simpson of Roanoke; four sons, Thomas
Perry of Opelika, Bennie Perry of Brent, Cooper Perry of Roanoke and Gary Perry
of Japan; one brother, Dr. Jessie M. Williamson of Sylacauga; 16 grandchildren
and 22 great-grandchildren.
 Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Jo Ann P. Lewis, 62, of Roanoke were Tuesday,

Williams officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens.
 Mrs. Lewis died Sunday, June 15, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
 A Randolph County resident most of her life, she was born March 22, 1935, in
Clay County, daughter of Arthur and Eulalah Proctor. She was a member of
Maplewood Baptist Church and had been employed as a sewing machine operator at
Palm Beach Company.
 Survivors include her husband, Samuel L. "Skinny" Lewis of Roanoke;, one
daughter, Pam Williams of Roanoke; three sons, Terry and Michael Lewis of
Roanoke and Sammie Lewis of Covington, Ga.; one sister, Betty Ferguson of
LaGrange; one brother, William Proctor of Lineville; and seven grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Billy Joe Fetner, Joey Boyd, Rayford Dabbs, Brannon Dabbs,
John Harris and Bobby Clark.

Walter Franklin Carden

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Walter Franklin Carden, 50, of Roanoke will be
held Thursday, June 26, 1997, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Roanoke, with
the Rev. Earl Rollins, the Rev. William Dean, and Dr. Douglas Turner
officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
 Mr. Carden died suddenly Monday, June 23, at Clay County Hospital.
 A lifelong Randolph County resident, he was born June 22, 1947, son of Olin
and Eunie Carden. He was employed as a truck driver for Midway Transit in
Ashland and was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke.
 Survivors include his wife, Margaret Carden of Roanoke; four daughters,
Teresa Anne Carden Johnson of Rock Mills, Mary Rollins of Woodland, and Allison
Carden and Babs Hester of Roanoke; three sons, Walt Carden, Sloan Carden and
Jess Carden of Roanoke; his mother, Mrs. Eunie Carden of Roanoke; one brother,
Jimmy Carden of Roanoke; and four grandchildren.
 The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Wednesday, June 25. Mr. Carden will lie in state at the church for one hour
before the 2 p.m. service.

 (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Funeral services for Vera Mae Waldrop, 63, of LaGrange, Ga.,

 Mrs. Waldrop died Monday, June 23, at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
 A former resident of Roanoke, she was born April 10, 1934, daughter of Grover
and Jane Workman. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
 Survivors include two daughters, Genie Williams and Liza Jane Waldrop, both
of LaGrange; one son, Andy Tomlinson of Ozark; and two brothers, Allen Workman
of Roanoke and Albert Workman of Lanett.
 Pallbearers will be Dave Strain, Rick Workman, Randy Workman, Kevin Workman,
Garfield Clark and Pete Brown.

Charlie Burdette, Sr.

 (ROANOKE) Charlie (Duke) Burdette Sr., 57, of Roanoke died Sunday, 
June 22, 1997 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.
 Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Burdette; three daughters, Mary Rowland, 
Elaine Slaughter, and Mary Harrison, all of Roanoke; two sons, Charlie Will Burdette Jr. 
and John Henry Burdette of Roanoke; two sisters, Beatrice Hugley of Valdosta, Ga., and 
Leola Walls of Atlanta; three brothers, Jimmy Smith and Willie Frank Winston of Atlanta 
and C. J. Burdette of Roanoke; and nine grandchildren.
 Services for Mr. Burdette will be Thursday, June 26, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive United 
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Hollis Boykin officiating. Interment will be in the 
church cemetery.
 Arrangements are by Silmon Mortuary of Roanoke.
 Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Olven Russell Hendley

 (WARNER ROBINS, Ga.) Olven Russell Hendley, 54, of Warner Robins, Ga.,
formerly of Randolph County, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, in Houston County
Hospital, Warner Robins.
 Funeral services for Mr. Hendley were at Providence Baptist Church at 2 p.m.
Friday, June 20, with the Rev. David Daniel officiating Burial was in the
adjoining cemetery.
 A native of Randolph County, he was born on Dec. 23, 1942, son of John Henry
Hendley and Mary Adeline Noles Hendley. He was parts manager for Charlie Pike
Chevrolet.
 Survivors include one son, Russell Hendley of Hattiesburg, Miss., and his
father, John H. Hendley, and stepmother, Mary M. Hendley of Brooklet, Ga.

Raymon Howard Lane

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Raymon Howard Lane, 51, of Roanoke were
Friday, June 20, 1997, at 3 p.m. from Lane's Chapel Methodist Church with the
Revs. Ballard Smith, Warren Wilder and Robert Lancaster officiating. Burial was
at the adjoining cemetery.
 Mr. Lane died suddenly Wednesday, June 18, at Randolph County Hospital.
 A former resident of Florida, Mr. Lane was a Chambers County native, born
July 7, 1945, son of J. L. and Dura Holloway Lane. He was a veteran and had
retired from a career in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Lane's Chapel
Methodist Church and the Roanoke Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his
father, J. L. Lane, and a son, Christopher Lane.
 Survivors include his wife, Karen McNamara Lane of Roanoke; four daughters,
Dawn Thompson, Glenda Ragle and Amy Lane, all of Sylvester, Ga., and Loretta
Lane of Roanoke; two sons, Billy Lane and Joe Lane, both of Roanoke; his mother,
Dura H. Lane of Roanoke; a foster son, Robert Fluharty of Roanoke; one sister,
Margaret Ann McFarland of Austell, Ga.; one brother, Hershel Lane of Roanoke;
and two grandchildren.
 Pallbearer were Leville Gooden, Tommy Fincher, Larry McFarland, Willie B.
Foster, Wayne Allen, Rodger Pearl, David Whitley and Ronnie Smith.

Yarnie B. Knight

 (WADLEY) Yarnie B. Knight, 90, of Wadley died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at Clay
County Hospital, Ashland. Funeral services will be from Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church, Wadley on June 25 at 1 p.m., the Rev. Cornelius Reese officiating.
Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
 Surviving are one adopted son, Etheridge T. Knight of Wadley; and two
brothers, John Will Battle of Columbia, Ala., and Curtis Battle of Wadley.
 Mrs. Knight was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Her body will lie
in state in the church one hour from 12 to 1.

Benjamin Franklin Taylor Jr.

 (WEDOWEE) Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Taylor Jr., 84, of Wedowee died Thursday,
June 19, 1997, at his residence after an extended illness.
 Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist
Church with the Revs. Jerry Butler and Donald Spradlin officiating. Burial was
in the adjoining cemetery.
 Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Virginia Taylor of Wedowee; one daughter,
Wanda Langley, and one son, Frank Allen Taylor, both of Wedowee; two
grandchildren, Tammy Taylor Fetner and Tina Taylor Craven of Wadley; and three
great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Don Taylor, Dr. Bobby Taylor, Tracy Eason, Charles Boyd, Ben
Taylor, Jackson Prestridge, Terry Messer and Mark Prestridge.
 Mr. Taylor was a native of Randolph County, born on March 26, 1913, son of
Benjamin Franklin Taylor Sr. and Ada Hoggs Taylor. He was a retired sawmiller
and farmer and a member of Dingler's Chapel Christian Church.

Mildred Traylor Swann

 (ROANOKE) Funeral services for Mildred Traylor Swann, 79, of Roanoke were
Sunday, June 22, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev.
Ralph Worley officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Christian Church cemetery.
 Mrs. Swann died June 20, 1997, at Traylor Nursing Home.
 A lifelong Roanoke resident, she was a Randolph County native,	born November
28, 1917, daughter of Richard C. and Nancy C. Breed Traylor. She was a
homemaker and a member of North Main Congregational Christian Church.
 Survivors include her husband, Eddie B. Swann of Roanoke; one daughter, 
Linda S. Lashley of Valley; one sister, Flora Cole of Villa Rica, Ga.; four
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
 Pallbearers were Dennis Brooks, Rodney Quinton, John Swann, Danny Swann,
Jerry Cole and Wayne Cole.
 Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.

Jim Riley Dukes

 (WADLEY) Jim Riley "Bus" Dukes, 83, of Wadley died Friday, June 20, 1997, 
at Roanoke Health Care Center.
 Funeral services were Tuesday, June 24, at 1:30 p.m. at County Line Baptist
Church Wadley, with the Rev. Sanford Johnson and the Rev. William H. Trammell
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
 Survivors include two sons, Ralph Dukes and Jimmie Lee Dukes of Atlanta; a
brother, Albert Dukes of Wedowee; two sisters, Nonnie Poole of Wadley and Carrie
Bailey of Cleveland, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, Tobie and Rachael Dukes.
 Clark Memorial Funeral Service of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements.
