Michael Anthony Sheppard

   (ROANOKE) Services for Michael Anthony Sheppard, 46, of Roanoke were Tuesday 
Jan. 31, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Gerald 
Sheppard, Roscoe Weaver and David Weaver officiating.   Burial followed at 
Liberty East Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Sheppard died Sunday, Jan. 29, at his home.
   Survivors include two sons, Tony and Bobby Lee Sheppard of Anniston; his 
parents, Harlin and Janell Sheppard of Roanoke; one sister; Cindy Phillips of 
LaFayette; and a special friend, Mike Ussery.
   Pallbearers were Danny Chappell, Billy Chappell, Timothy McManus, Tommy 
Burke, Eddie Sheppard and Jonathan Watson.
   Mr. Sheppard was born May 15, 1959. He was of the Baptist faith and had been 
a welder for Piedmont Mechanical.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Audrey L. Kirby, 88, of Roanoke were Saturday Jan. 28,

officiating. Burial followed at Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ Cemetery.
   Miss Kirby died Thursday, Jan. 26, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   Survivors include on sister, Louise Cofield of Roanoke.
   Miss Kirby was born Nov 1, 1917, daughter of Hiram and Hattie Kirby. She was 
a member of Taylor's Crossroads Church of Christ and had been a textile weaver 
for Handley Mills.

Eartele Vinson Brewer

   (ROANOKE) Services for Eartele Vinson Brewer, 85, of Roanoke will he 
Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. 
Fran Irmiter and the Rev. Charles Whitson officiating. Burial will follow at New 
Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on 
Wednesday.
   Mrs. Brewer died Monday, Jan. 30, at University of Alabama Birmingham 
Hospital.
   Survivors include four daughters, Emogene Smith of Roanoke, Joyce Veasey of 
Valley, Moline Reed of Henagar and Pauline Johnson of Five Points; three sons, 
Franklin R. Cummings of Roanoke, Charles W. Cummings of West Point, Ga., and 
Bobby Gene Brewer of Valley; three sisters, Sevella Broach of Newnan, Ga., Ruby 
Cummings of Cragford and Mary McCormick of Lineville; nine grandchildren; 23 
great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
   Mrs. Brewer was born March 18, 1920, daughter of Milas and Lena Elizabeth 
Carter Vinson, She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and a homemaker.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Christopher Poet Hill, 37, of Roanoke will be 
Wednesday, Feb, 1 2006, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. 
Keith Benefield and the Rev Stoney Halsey officiating. Burial will follow at 
Cedarwood Cemetery
   Mr. Hill died Sunday, Jan. 29, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ferguson Hill of Roanoke; one daughter, 
Sandie Hill of Roanoke; one son, Doug Hill of Roanoke; his mother, Sandra Hill 
Norred of Roanoke; and his paternal grandmother, Selma Hill of Roanoke.
   Pallbearers will be Troy Ferguson, Eldon Ferguson, Chance Hill, Bill Anthony, 
Steve Anthony, Heath Hill, Barry Bozeman and Jeremy Hill.
   Mr. Hill was born Nov. 5, 1968, son of Dallas Poet and Sandra Yarbrough Hill. 
He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a self-employed contractor 
and builder. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his father.

Raymond Luther Barber

   (WADLEY) Services for Raymond Luther Barber Sr., 66, of Wadley were Friday, 
Jan. 27, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Cloyse 
Johnson and the Rev. Tommy Burks officiating. Burial was at Midway Methodist 
Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Barber died Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical 
Center, Anniston.
   Survivors include two sons, Raymond Barber Jr. and Tony Eugene Barber of 
Wadley; one brother, Donald Barber of Birmingham; and several nieces and 
nephews.
   Pallbearers were Johnny Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Ronnie Norred, Bob 
Peacock, John Barber and Shane Johnson.
   Mr. Barber was born April 1, 1939, son of Hurston and Lois Thackerson Barber. 
He was a member of Midway Methodist Church and had been a heavy equipment 
operator with Flanagan's Excavators. Mr. Barber was preceded in death by his 
wife, Maureen Mitchell Barber; his parents; three sisters, Betty Jean Masters, 
Judy Frederick and Faye Barrett; and one brother, Wayne Barber.

Clara Norred Miles

   (NEWELL) Services for Clara Norred Miles, 96, of Newell were Tuesday, Jan. 
31, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Cavers Grove Congregational Christian Church, with the 
Revs. Gordon Taylor, Stanley Yarbrough and Phillip Waites officiating. Burial 
followed in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mrs. Miles died Sunday, Jan. 29, at Traylor Nursing Home, Roanoke.
   Mrs. Miles is survived by four grandchildren Sherry Yarbrough of Rock Mills 
and Cathy Florence, Sandra Alsabrook and Wanda White of Newell; and one sister, 
Bessie McCain of Oxford.
   Pallbearers were Don McCain, Bill Nelson, Junior McCain, Nelson McCain, Tim 
Smith and Jeremy McCain.
   Mrs. Miles was born Aug. 20, 1909, daughter of Oscar and Hattie Pearl Boyd 
Norred. She was a member of Cavers Grove Congregational Christian Church and a 
homemaker. Mrs. Miles was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Miles; and one 
son, Thomas Katha Miles.

Ellen Wade Gordon

  (LANETT) Ellen Wade Gordon, 76, of Lanett died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at her 
residence.
  Services were Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Happy Valley Baptist Church in 
Lanett with the Revs. Rusty Letson, Floyd Aikens and Mark McGee officiating. 
Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Lanett.
   Mrs. Gordon is survived by three daughters, Beverly Gale Rollins of Roanoke 
and Rzora Lee Daniel and Stacie Delores Gordon of Lanett; one son, Eulice Dale 
Gordon of Lanett; one sister, Winnie Fulghum of West Point, Ga.; one brother, 
Arlie Wade of Waverly; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
   Born Oct. 22, 1929, in Randolph County, Mrs. Gordon was the daughter of the 
late Rzora Prestridge Wade and the late Sam Wade. She was preceded in death by 
her husband, Eulice L. Gordon. Mrs. Gordon retired from WestPoint Stevens 
Fairfax Finishing Mill with more than 20 years of service. She was a homemaker 
and active in her church, Happy Valley Baptist Church, where she was a member of 
the Cora Weldon WMU Group.    Mrs. Gordon was a loving mother and grandmother.

Annie Gaston Greene

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Annie Gaston Greene, 86, of Wedowee were Sunday, Jan. 
29, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Corinth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tommy 
Burke and Chad Lee officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
  Mrs. Greene died Friday, Jan. 27, at Sylacauga Health Care.
   Mrs. Greene is survived by one daughter, Emmie Kines of Sylacauga; two 
grandchildren; and one sister, Avery Morrison of Pensacola, Fla.
Pallbearers were Johnny Hyatt, Gwin Norred, Matthew Huddleston, Walter 
Huddleston, Glenn Traylor and Truman Morrison.
   Mrs. Greene was born June 7, 1919, daughter of the late Joseph Marvin and 
Emma Lee Gaston. She was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church and a 
homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Payson Greene.

Ruby Gurtrude Burton Drake

   (AUBURN) Ruby Gurtrude Burton Drake, 92, of Auburn died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 
2006, at Care Center of Opelika.
   Graveside services were at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at Wadley Cemetery, 
with the Rev. George Mathinson officiating.
  Surviving are two sons, James Bob Drake and Dennis Cecil Drake of Auburn; a 
granddaughter; three great-grandsons; a sister, Jimmie Ruth Parris of Rainbow 
City; and a brother, Guy Milford Burton of Lanett. She was the daughter of the 
late James Monroe Burton and Susan Elizabeth McEachern Burton. She was preceded 
in death by her husband, James Robert Drake.
   Mrs. Drake was born in Tallapoosa County, April 12, 1913, one of 15 children. 
She graduated from Chambers County High School in Milltown and was a 1941 
graduate of Auburn University. Mrs. Drake taught school for over 30 years in 
Roanoke, Milltown, New Site and Weogufka. She was a devout Christian and an 
excellent role model for her students and family.
   In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of Mrs. 
Drake to Auburn United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 3135, Auburn, AL 36831, where 
she was a member.

   (WARNER ROBINS, Ga.) Christy Lopez, 38, died on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006. 
Services will he at 11 a.m. on Wednesday; Feb. 1, in the chapel of McCullough 
Funeral Home, Warner Robins, with burial in Athens, Ala.
  Mrs. Lopez was born Dec. 3, 1967, in Athens, Ala. She was a 1986 graduate of 
Handley High School and a graduate of Ayers Technical School in Anniston.
   Survivors include her husband, Jesus Lopez of Warner Robins; children, 
Jeffery Scott Perry of Cartersville, Ga., Alexus Perry Self of Roanoke, Ala., 
and Arcadia Lopez and Alyse Lopez of Warner Robins; her parents, the Rev. Henry 
and Jane Ellen Bass of Jesup, Ga.; a brother, Shawn Bass of Cartersville, Ga.; 
and three sisters, Jody Self of Roanoke and Stephanie Bivens and Laura George of

   (ANNISTON) Services for Julia Ware, 90, of Anniston were at 1 p.m. Saturday,

   Mrs. Ware died Saturday, Jan. 21, at Jacksonville Health & Rehab in 
Jacksonville.
   Survivors include one son, Robert Ware of Buffalo, N.Y.; one daughter, Mary 
Lougean Reynolds of Anniston; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 
12 great-great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Ware are was a Randolph County native and a member of Flint Hill Baptist 
Church in Randolph County.

Louise Morrison Mitchell

   (ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.) Louise M. Mitchell, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at 
the home of her daughter in North Carolina.
   Born in Randolph County to the late Thomas Leroy and Grace Morrison, she was 
the loving wife of the late Rev. Warren Mitchell. She retired from the Coca-Cola 
Bottling Company with more than 25 years of service and was active in the 
community and Congregational Methodist Church in Golden Springs and Piedmont.
   She is survived by one daughter, Betty Dame; one grandson; one stepson Jerry 
of Anniston; and one sister.
   A memorial service was at Gray Brown-Service Chapel, Anniston, on Saturday, 
Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Leron Murphy and the Rev. Frank Rasbury 
officiating.
   The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Countryside 
Hospice Care, 1021 Noble St., Suite 204, Anniston, AL 36201. Hospice Care had a 
heartfelt and special place in Louise's life and helping others was her wish.

Kenneth Bruce Parker

   (LINCOLN) Services for the Rev. Kenneth Bruce Parker, 66, of Lincoln, were be 
Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. The Rev. 
Dorothy Ann Webster and Rev. Jim Napp officiated. Burial followed in Hillview 
Memorial Park.
   Rev. Parker died Thursday, Jan. 26, at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.
   He was born Feb. 1, 1939, in Chambers County to the Rev. William Bruce Parker 
and Lorena Black Parker. Rev. Parker was a graduate of Benjamin Russell High 
School in 1957. He received his bachelor of science degree from University of 
North Alabama in 1977 and his master of divinity degree from Emory University in 
1979. He served as pastor at Skirum and Fairview United Methodist Church; 
Hackleburg, Bear Creek and Vina United Methodist Church; Lowell United Methodist 
Church in Roanoke; Propst Memorial and Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church; 
Lincoln United Methodist Church; Asbury United Methodist Church in Fort Payne; 
and Ragan Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. Parker was an avid outdoorsman. 
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He also loved to travel.
   He is survived by his wife, Faye Huey Parker of Lincoln; son, Kenneth Richard 
Parker of Lebanon, Tenn.; daughters, Susan Carlisle and Gina Dulaney of Lincoln; 
four grandchildren; sisters, Faye Kirk of Alexander City and Paula Thomas of 
Pinson; brothers, Michael Parker of Alexander City and Tim Parker of Dadeville; 
and several nieces and nephews.

David Wayne Dale

   (WOODLAND) Services for David Wayne Dale, 43, of Woodland, were Friday, Feb. 
3, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Wedowee, with the 
Rev. William Crawford officiating. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery.
   Mr. Dale died Sunday, Jan. 29, in Wedowee Hospital.
   Mr. Dale is survived by his mother, Mae O. Dale of Woodland; a brother, 
Michael Dale of Gadsden; four sisters, Donna Lowe of Lithonia, Ga., and Tiffany 
Johnson, Stephanie Dale and Tanera Napper of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a grandmother, 
Virginia Turner of Woodland.
Mr. Dale was a native of Pittsburgh and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington 
High School in Atlanta, Ga.

Kermit Virgil Noles Sr.

   (WELLINGTON) Services for Kermit Virgil Noles Sr., 90, of Wellington, 
formerly of Woodland, were Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Providence 
Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Daniel and the Rev. Leron Murphy 
officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Noles died Sunday, Feb. 5, at Jacksonville Medical Center.
   Mr. Noles is survived by one son, Kermit Noles Jr. of Wellington; one 
grandson; and one sister, Lucy Green of Woodland.
   Pallbearers were Benny Floyd, Justin Noles, Erik Pentacost, Eric Mangum, 
Dustin Remington and Buddy Holloway.
   Mr. Noles was born Jan. 26, 1916, son of Zack H. and Bena Brown Noles.   He 
was a member of Providence Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army during World 
War II, was owner of a general store for 25 years, and was a member of the 
Heaton Lodge in Graham. Mr. Noles was preceded in death by two wives, Luthie and 
Atha Noles; two brothers and seven sisters.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Mitchell Waldrep, 97, of Roanoke were Saturday, Feb. 
4, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Calhoun and 
the Rev. Charlie Bolt officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Baptist 
Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Waldrep died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Traylor Nursing Home.
   Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Flosie Brown Waldrep of Roanoke; two 
daughters, Geneva Parmer of Roanoke and Carol Vaugh of Newnan, Ga.; one son, 
Dewain Waldrep of Roanoke; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven 
great-great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Ronald White, Ricky White, Darren White, Dennis Waldrep, 
Jerry Waldrep and Donald Waldrep.
   Mr. Waldrep was born April 3, 1908, son of George and Susan Whaley Waldrep. 
He was a member of Wedowee Church of God and had been a card fixer for Handley 
Mills. Mr. Waldrep was preceded in death by three brothers, Craford, Gart and 
Johnny Waldrep; five sisters, Eunice Broach, Laura Cottle, Minnie Jackson, Annie 
Cottle and Edna Waldrep; and one great-granddaughter, Amanda Benefield.

Ethel Mae Whaley Huckeba

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Ethel Mae Whaley Huckeba, 74, of Wedowee will be 
Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. 
Glen Ward and the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Wedowee 
City Cemetery.
   Mrs. Huckeba died Monday, Feb. 6, at Wedowee Hospital.
   The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. and Wednesday 
from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
   Mrs. Huckeba is survived by five daughters, Lore Churchwell of Smith Station 
and Pattie Lee McCain, Sandra Williams, Tracy Lynn Dewberry and Beth Ann Huckeba 
of Wedowee; one son, Billy Huckeba of Smith Station; six sisters, Lucille 
Whaley, Bertha Dutton and Katie Whaley of Wedowee, Virginia Hester and Etta Jo 
Davis of Valley, and Minnie Bee Strickland of Georgia; one brother, Leon Whaley 
of Roanoke; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-
grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Joseph Williams, Christopher Williams, Colton McCain, 
Eugene Gilmore, Scott Huckeba and Vince Gilmore.
   Mrs. Huckeba was born Aug. 27, 1931, daughter of William and DeMay Mitchell 
Whaley. She was of the Church of God faith and had worked as a textile twister. 
Mrs. Huckeba was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Howard Huckeba.

Annie L. Earnest Hagler

   (PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga.) Annie L. Earnest Hagler, 90, of Pine Mountain, Ga., died 
Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in Pine Mountain 
Cemetery.
   Mrs. Hagler, born Dec. 4, 1915, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of 
Robert Wesley and Mabel Farr Hall. She retired as a seamstress from Playtex and 
worked for Patrick Grocery. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Pine 
Mountain and was the widow of Cecil Hagler and William Posey Earnest. She was 
preceded in death by two sons, William Ferrell Earnest Sr. and Arthur Donald 
Earnest Sr.
   Survivors include a sister, Mary Morgan of LaGrange; five grandchildren; 
seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Samuel Bryan Heard, M.D.

   (HUNTSVILLE) Samuel Bryan Heard, 57, of Huntsville died Monday, Jan. 30, 
2006, after a struggle with cancer and related complications.
   Dr. Heard was a graduate of Huntsville High School, received a B.S. degree 
from the University of Alabama and a doctorate from the University of Alabama 
Birmingham. He has served patients at hospitals in Cincinnati, Ohio, 
Fredericksburg, Va., various north Alabama hospitals, and most recently at 
Huntsville Hospital. Dr. Heard represented Alabama by serving two terms as 
president of the America College of Emergency Physicians, served on the HEMSI 
Board, and welcomed frequent opportunities to practice his love of teaching.
   Dr. Sam Heard was born in Roanoke on Oct. 17, 1948, son of William Bryan and 
Janette Welch Heard. He is survived by his wife, Carol Allen Heard; daughters 
Christina M. Heard and Elizabeth F. Heard; his parents; siblings Michael A. 
Heard, Dr. Debra Heard Lloyd and Kenneth E. Heard; and loving friend and 
caregiver, Patricia Wright.
   Services were Thursday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. at Laughlin Chapel, Huntsville, 
with Dr. Ed Culpepper and Dr. Richard Lloyd III officiating. Burial was in Maple 
Hill Cemetery.

Lucille Magby

   (ROANOKE) Lucille Magby, 87, of Roanoke died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at 
LaFayette Nursing Home.
   Services were Tuesday, Feb. 14, at East Roanoke Church of God, with the Rev. 
Timothy Wright and Minister Charlie Rowland officiating.   Burial was in Skyview 
Memorial Gardens.
   Survivors include her husband, Robert Magby; a son, Robert Hill Jr. of East 
Point, Ga.; a daughter, Lela Rowland of Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Annie 
Wilkerson of Roanoke; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by a brother, Sylvester Wilkerson; and two grandsons, Tony 
Rowland and John Lewis Rowland.

   (BLUE GRASS, Iowa) Thomas Lewis Miles, 60, of Blue Grass, Iowa, died Monday, 
Jan. 30, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center.
   Mr. Miles was born July 15, 1945, in Randolph County son of Eldon and Macie 
Rich Miles. He was employed by Wells Fargo.
   He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Miles of Iowa; a son, Thomas Dewayne 
Miles of Alabama; a daughter, Daffney Drazzell of Georgia; several 
stepdaughters; two sisters, Sarah Gooden of Opelika and Frances Weathers of 
Roanoke; and a brother, Bobby Miles. He was preceded in death by his parents; 
two sisters, Nelda Miles and Deborah Miles; and two brothers, Sammy Miles and 
Kenneth Miles.
   Mr. Miles was cremated. A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1 
p.m. at Christian Center Church in Davenport, Iowa, where he was a member and an 
usher.

Mary Sue Walker Rodgers

   (WEST POINT, Ga.) Mary Sue Walker Rodgers, 78, of West Point, Ga., died 
Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at Bethany House Hospice, Auburn.
   Mrs. Walker was born in Randolph County Oct. 23, 1927, daughter of the late 
Vida and Carey Walker of Roanoke.
  Survivors include four children, Fran Parmer, Frank Rodgers, Dianne Rodgers 
and Linda Elliott.
   There will be no funeral services. Mrs. Walker's body was donated to science 
at her request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethany House 
Hospice, Auburn. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at a 
later date.

Orbie Mangham

   (ANNISTON) Funeral services for Mrs. Orbie Mangham, 80, of Anniston were 
Saturday, Feb. 11, at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Jeff May officiating. 
Burial followed at Forestlawn Gardens.
   Mrs. Mangham died Thursday, Feb. 9, at Regional Medical Center, Anniston.
   Survivors include two sons, Allen Mangham and Horace Mangham of Anniston; one 
daughter, Carlene McMinn of Wedowee; three grandchildren; three brothers, John 
G. Wade, Earl E. Wade and Paul Wade; and four sisters, Shirley Kilgore, Florence 
Thomas, Margaret McCurdy and Earline Martin.
   Pallbearers were Garry Dalton, Larry Dalton, Dean Dalton, Chris Wade, Paul 
Junior Wade and Edward Wade.
   Mrs. Mangham was a native and lifelong resident of Anniston.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy F. Mangham; and her son, 
Chuck Mangham.

Riley Jack Hyatt

   (TUNNEL HILL, Ga.) Riley Jack Hyatt, 72, of Tunnel Hill, Ga., died Sunday, 
Feb. 5, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.
   Mr. Hyatt was born March 30, 1933, in Heard County, Ga., son of the late 
Herman and Eunice Gladney Hyatt. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby 
Duke, Bertha Moore and Adele Daniel and brothers, Ray, Billy and Reese Hyatt. 
Mr. Hyatt loved America and was rpoud [proud]to have served in the U.S. Army 
during the Korean Conflict. He was injured on two occasions and received several 
commendations, including two Purple Hearts. After his discharge from the army, 
he graduated from Perry Business School in LaGrange.
   He is survived by his loving wife, Marvilene Stoker Hyatt of Tunnel Hill; 
daughters Betty Caswell of LaGrange, Ga., Kay Patterson of Dalton, Ga., and 
Arlene and Priest of Crandall, Ga.; sons, Larry Hyatt of Roanoke, Mike Hyatt of 
Franklin, Ga., and Greg Arnold of Crandall; brothers, Bruce Hyatt of St. Louis, 
Mo., and Bob Hyatt of Franklin; sisters Thelma Hooper of Powder Springs, Ga., 
Bernice Lemons of St. Louis and Melba Templeton of LaGrange; 12 grandchildren; 
five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services were Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home. 
Interment followed in the Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with nephews 
serving as pallbearers. Military graveside honors were provided by the American

Eleanor Cater Carter

  (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Eleanor Cater Carter, 77, of LaGrange, Ga., died Friday, Feb. 
10, 2006, at Brian Center Nursing Care in LaGrange.
   Mrs. Carter was born May 24, 1928, in Randolph County, Ala., daughter of the 
late John Thomas and Maude Crouch Camp. She had lived in LaGrange most of her 
life and was a member of Unity Baptist Church.   She retired from the City of 
LaGrange School System, where she worked for more than 20 years as a 
kindergarten aide. She was active in the Troup County Senior Center and was a 
volunteer with the Foster Grandparent Program helping kids learn to read.
   Survivors include her husband, Roy L. Carter of LaGrange; a daughter, Cathy 
Kays of Chickamauga, Ga.; a son, Greg Cater of Rome, Ga.; four grandchildren; a 
brother, Marvin Camp of Chamblee, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
   The funeral services for Mrs. Carter were Monday, Feb. 13, at the chapel of 
Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Revs. Bobby Robinson and Marc 
Eichelberger officiating. Interment followed at Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Loyd Kelley

   (LANETT) Loyd Kelley, 86, of Lanett died Sunday morning, Feb. 12, 2006, at 
Beverly Health Care.
   Mr. Kelley was born in LaGrange, Ga., Jan. 11, 1920, son of the late Minnie 
and Monroe Kelley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was retired as 
a heavy equipment operator for Chambers County. He was a member of Lanier 
Baptist Church.
   Surviving are his wife, Sarah Nixon Kelley; five daughters, Brenda O'Neal and 
Shirley Nixon of Bowdon, Ga., Barbara Spinner of Houston, Texas, Linda Robinson 
of Resaca, Ga., and Elaine Maddox of LaGrange, Ga.; two sons, Jackie Ray Kelley 
of Roanoke and Maxwell Kelley of Vacaville, Calif.; and several grandchildren, 
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
   Services were at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley on 
Tuesday, Feb. 14, with burial in Restlawn Cemetery in LaGrange. The Rev. Mike 
Hawkins officiated.

Ivy Joiner

   (ROANOKE) Ivy Joiner, 81, of Roanoke died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at her 
residence.
   Services will be Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. at East Roanoke Church of God, 
with Minister Charlie Rowland officiating. Interment will be at Peace and 
Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery, Roanoke. Mrs. Joiner will lie in state at the 
church one hour before the service.
   Mrs. Joiner was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Chambers County. In her early years, 
she was a member of Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church, Roanoke. She joined East 
Roanoke Church of God in August 1974, where she served faithfully until her 
health began to decline. Mrs. Joiner is preceded in death by her husband, Lee 
Steve Joiner Sr.
   Surviving are the three sons, James Joiner and Steve Joiner of Roanoke and 
Stanford Joiner of Rayville, La.; three daughters, Irene Thomas, Joyce Beard and 
Emma Winston of Roanoke; two brothers, Andrew Ellis of Roanoke and Charlie Ellis 
of Youngtown, Ohio; two sisters, Suge B. Strickland of Roanoke and Emma Finney 
of Anniston; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews,

   Miss Parrish died Thursday, Feb. 9, at East Alabama Medical Center.

   Miss Parrish was born Feb. 12, 1926, daughter of John Watson and Nannie Lue 
Hester Parrish. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, had lived in Wadley 
prior to 1950, and had been a supervisor at Palm Beach far 40 years. Miss Parish 
was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary Will Adcock, Lois

   Mr. Kirby died Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Traylor Nursing Home.
   Survivors include his wife, Mary Smith Kirby of Roanoke; one sister, Ruth 
Kirby Sanders of Atlanta; three brothers. Robert Earl Kirby of Knoxville, Tenn., 
Kelley M. Kirby of Birmingham, Fred S. Kirby of Decatur, Ga.; and several nieces 
and nephews.

Bonner and Frank Phillips. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of First

   Mr. Kirby was born April 2, 1926, son of Thomas J. and Gertrude Fincher 
Kirby.  He was raised in Woodland, where he graduated from Woodland High School, 
a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke, served in the United States Army 
during World War II and had been a supervisor at the Uniroyal Plant in Opelika.  
Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence J. Kirby 
and Dr. Thomas W. Kirby.

   Mr. Harmon died Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Clay County Hospital.
   Mr. Harmon is survived by his wife, Retha Traylor Harmon of Wedowee; one

Wedowee, William Harmon of Heflin, Reed Harmon of Lineville and Randy Harmon of 
Ashland; one sister, Fannie Dale Traylor of Woodland; 22 grandchildren; and 17 
great-grandchildren.

Charles Ray Mapp

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Charles Ray Mapp, 66, of LaGrange, Ga., formerly of Randolph 
County, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
   Services were Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home, 
Franklin, Ga., with the Rev. Gerald Sheppard and the Rev. Doug Bingham 
officiating. Interment followed in the Centralhatchee Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Mapp was born May 14, 1939, to Niner Belle Adams Mapp and the late James 
E. Mapp. He was a Baptist by faith but attended church with his wife at the 
Neighborhood House of Prayer in Omaha, Ala. He was a veteran of the Army 
Reserves and a disabled former Ford Motor Company employee. He was known for a 
wonderful spirit and being the center of any function. 
   He is survived by his wife, Wanda Mapp of LaGrange; his mother, Nina Belle 
Spradlin; one daughter, Alisa Montfort of Newnan, Ga.; one son, James Mapp of 
LaGrange; two grandsons; four sisters, Vaughtell Robinson of Breman, Ga., Jane 
Dean of Roopville, Ga., Nina Hussey of Franklin, Ga., and Betty Kent of 
LaGrange, Ga.; and one brother, Billy Towler. He was preceded in death by his 
father, James Mapp; and special brother and sister Ronnie Adams and Bobbie 
McKown.

Joe Ayres Hester

(PAYNE SPRINGS, Texas) Joe Ayres Hester, 83, of Payne Springs, Texas, died 
Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in Athens, Texas.
   Mr. Hester was born in Woodland, Ala., April 28, 1922.  He had been vice 
president and general manager of a steel container business and had served in 
the Navy and Army Air Corps as a major during World War II and Korea.  He was a 
member of Sawyer Masonic Lodge in Randolph County.
   Services were at Payne Springs United Methodist Church on Thursday, Feb. 2, 
with the Rev. Elizabeth A. Elizardo officiating. Burial was Restland Memorial 
Park, Dallas.
   Honorary pallbearers were Adam Peyron, Alan Peyron, Robert Borland.. Randy 
Borland, Ronald Shoemaker and Lance Mayhugh.
   Surviving are his wife, Marquette Hester of Payne Springs; three daughters,

Martha Louise Sims

   (OPELIKA) Martha Louise Sims, 76, of Opelika died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at 
East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Cemetery in Penton with the Rev. Eddie Striblin officiating.
   Mrs. Sims is survived by three daughters, Julia Bassett and Lynn Long of 
Opelika and Cynthia Hamby of Valley; one son, Chester B. Sims of Opelika; 13 
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Sims was born May 8, 1929, in Randolph County. She was preceded in death 
by her husband, Ison B. Sims, and her daughter, Brenda Sue Kent. Mrs. Sims 
enjoyed cooking, and she loved her family. She had a green thumb and loved 
working with flowers and pots.

   Mrs. Hand is survived by two daughters, Shirley J. Gough of LaGrange and

in her church.  She was a loving mother and grandmother.  Mrs. Hand enjoyed 
playing bingo at the nursing home.  She was a member of Northside Baptist Church

   (EUGENE, Ore.) Services for Lonnie Bolt, 89, of Eugene, Ore., formerly of

   Mr. Bolt died Sunday, Feb. 19, in Eugene.
   Mr. Bolt was born Nov. 4, 1916, to Nina and Dave Bolt of Randolph County. He 
was raised in Alabama, moved to Oregon in 1941 and returned to Calhoun County in 
1957. He was a self-employed carpenter and owned and operated L&L Cabinet Shop. 
He returned to Oregon after his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Blue 
Springs Baptist Church of Oxford.
   He is survived by two previous wives, Gladys Marcus Bolt of Pleasant Hill, 
Ore., and Lois Fowler Bolt of Birmingham; four sons, David Bolt and Randy Bolt 
of Springfield, Rex Bolt of Creswell, Ore., and Jim Fowler of Birmingham; two 
daughters, Christine Thomas of Jasper, Ore., and Wanda Gray of Pleasant Hill; 
one brother, Robert Lloyd Bolt of Oxford; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-
grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rebecca Ann Spraddling Henderson

   (WADLEY) Rebecca "Becky" Ann Spradding Henderson, 41, of Wadley died 
Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Randolph Medical Center, Roanoke.

at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James Whetstone officiating. Interment will be in the

   (WEDOWEE) Services for Agnes Inez Dewberry, 87, of Wedowee were Tuesday, Feb.

   Mrs. Dewberry died Sunday, Feb. 19, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mrs. Dewberry is survived by four grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Maudine 
Dewberry of Roanoke; two sisters, Naomi Floyd and Ezelle Hanvey of Cullman; one 
brother, William White Cullman; nine great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-
grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were Jeremy Holloway, Kelly Baker, Nick Dewberry, Trey Hill, 
Kevin Gosdin, Michael Watts and Frank Fetner.
   Mrs. Dewberry was born Aug. 13, 1918, daughter of Walter and Agnes Stephens 
White. She was a member of Liberty Grove Congregational Methodist Church, 
Wedowee U.M.C. Kennagers, and Wedowee Senior Citizens Group and was a homemaker. 
Mrs. Dewberry was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis F. Dewberry; two sons, 
Charlie and Wyatt Dewberry; and two grandchildren, Bobby and Frankie Dewberry.

Mildred Lankford Kendrick

   (LaFAYETTE) Mildred Lankford Kendrick, 85, of LaFayette died Sunday, Feb. 19, 
2006, at Bethany House in Auburn.
   Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Rock Springs Baptist Church at 1 
p.m. CST with Brother Charles Wynn, Brother Charles Whitson and Brother George 
Palmer officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
   Mrs. Kendrick is survived by six sons, James Kendrick of Wedowee, Fred 
Kendrick, Harold Kendrick, Bobby Kendrick, Jack Kendrick and Charles Kendrick, 
all of LaFayette; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, 
nephews, cousins and friends.
   Mrs. Kendrick was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Kendrick, her 
sister, Joy Freeman, and her brother, Leon Lankford.
   Mrs. Kendrick was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Chambers County. She was an active 
member of the Rock Springs Baptist Women's Sunday School Class. Mrs. Kendrick 
and her late husband, J.D. Kendrick, devoted their lives to their family and the 
care of their farm.
   Pallbearers were her grandsons Randall Kendrick, Jamie Kendrick, Joey 
Kendrick, Matthew Kendrick, William Kendrick, Chad Kendrick and Michael

John `Mutt' Adamson

   (WEDOWEE) Services for John "Mutt" Adamson, 74, of Wedowee were Tuesday, Feb. 
21, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville, with the Rev. Claude

Church Cemetery.
   Mr. Adamson died Saturday, Feb. 18, at his residence.
   He was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County and had retired from 
West Point Pepperell with more than 30 years of service.   He was a member of 
Cross Plains Baptist Church in Carrollton, Ga.
   He is survived by his wife, Alice Mae Holloway Adamson of Wedowee; four 
daughters, Betty Boatright of Carrollton, Annetta Hall of Virginia, Sericia 
Seiber of Tennessee and Darlene Daugherty of Wedowee; two sons, Kenneth Adamson 
of Malone and Vic Adamson of Taiwan; three sisters, Evelyn Bradley and Edna Ruth 
Moore of Wedowee and Laverne Dobson of Anniston; four brothers, Buford "Boots" 
Adamson, Bobby Adamson and Dewayne Adamson of Wedowee and Comer Adamson of 
Florida; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley 
and Delia Bertha Bean Adamson; one son, Pat Adamson; two sisters, Erma Key and 
Annie Earline Adamson; and two brothers, James Earl "Red" Adamson and Willard 
Adamson.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Jonnie O'Malie Stevenson, 99, of Roanoke were Monday, 
Feb. 20, 2006, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Roanoke, with the

   Mrs. Stevenson died Thursday, Feb. 16, at her home.
   Survivors include a niece, Cornelia Feore of Mobile; five nephews, Tommy 
Zieman of Mobile, Chris Stevenson of Pinehurst, N.C., Mike Stevenson and Allen 
Stevenson of Ashville, N.C., and John Jacobs of Tampa, Fla.; and several great-
nieces and great-nephews.

   Mrs. Stevenson was born May 18, 1906, daughter of John Cornelius and 
Catherine Stewart Bonner O'Malie. She was retired as an elementary teacher with 
the Roanoke School System and was a member of First United Methodist Church of 
Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Hugh Stevenson.

Willie O. McKay

   (ANNISTON) Services for Willie O. McKay, 80, will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, 
Feb. 22, 2006, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Interment will be at Anniston

   Mr. McKay died Sunday, Feb. 19, at his residence.
   Mr. McKay is survived by his sons, Michael J. McKay of Oxford and Donald E. 
McKay of Anniston; one sister, Erdeal Key of Wedowee; brothers, Langdon McKay of 
Oklahoma and Dyrrell McKay of Lineville; five grandchildren, five great-
grandchildren, five nieces and six nephews. He was preceded in death by wife, 
Betty Jo McKay and three sisters.
   Pallbearers will be grandsons-in-law and friends.
   Mr. McKay was a native of Clay County and resident of Anniston for 60 years. 
He retired with 44 years of service with Lee Brass. He served with the U.S. Army 
during World War II and of the Methodist faith.

   (ROANOKE) Eolois Fuller, 86, of 804 Strong St., Roanoke, died Wednesday, Feb. 
15, 2006, at his home.

Church, with the Rev. Lonnie B. Houston officiating. Burial was in Skyview 
Memorial Gardens.
   Survivors include three sons, Alvin Fuller and Barry Fuller of Roanoke and 
Melvin Fuller of Atlanta; five daughters, Catherine Bailey and Gloria Fuller of 
Wedowee, Margaret Higgins of Douglasville, Ga., and Helen Higgins and Barbara 
Fuller Cofield of Roanoke; a brother, William Fuller of Roanoke; 21 
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, 
Alice Murphy Fuller; and a brother, Nathaniel Fuller.

   (ROANOKE) Services for Lewis Edward Bassett, 71, of Roanoke were Friday, Feb.

   Mr. Bassett died Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Randolph Medical Center.
   Mr. Bassett is survived by one daughter, Sarah A. Benefield of Ranburne; four 
sons, Kirby Bassett of Napoleon, Charles Bassett and Pat Bassett of Roanoke and 
Bill Bassett of Rock Stand; two sisters, Anna Allen of Roanoke and Louise Foster 
of LaGrange; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

   Mr. Bassett was born Oct. 29, 1934, son of James and Nora Padgett Bassett. He 
was member of Rock Stand Congregational Christian Church, had been a self-
employed farmer and welder, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean 
Conflict. Mr. Bassett was preceded in death by his wife, Sara K. Bassett.

daughter, Jeanette Lewis of Fayetteville, Ga.; one son, Clarence Lewis of 
Woodland; four grandchildren; one sister, Irene Bailey of Woodland; one brother, 
Wallace Herren of LaGrange; and six great-grandchildren.

   Mrs. Lewis was born July 6, 1927, daughter of William A. and Hattie Burgess

for 62 years and was a homemaker. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by two 
sisters, Pearl Johnson and Rena Calhoun; and one brother, Herman Herren.

   (MONTGOMERY) Eddie Paul Tidwell, 75, of Montgomery died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 
2006, at his home.

   Mr. Tidwell is survived by his wife, Ellie Tidwell; two sons, Tim Tidwell and 
Daniel Parks; a daughter, Paula Fleming; three grandsons; one brother, the Rev. 
Rudy Tidwell of Valley; two sisters, Mary Powers and Margie Davis; and many 
nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Tidwell was a native of Roanoke and had lived in the Langdale community

   (LaFAYETTE) Herbert R. "Mobby" Satterwhite, 70, of LaFayette died Friday, 
Feb. 10, 2006, at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.
  Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist 
Church #2 in LaFayette with the Rev. Curtis Spidell officiating. Burial followed 
at the church cemetery.
   Mr. Satterwhite is survived by three daughters, Laura Satterwhite of Five 
Points, Sarah Satterwhite of Opelika and Faye Scott of LaFayette; three sons, 
Lyndon Woods of Roanoke and Michael and Dennis Satterwhite, both of LaFayette; 
one sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; an aunt; 14 grandchildren; nine great-

  (WEDOWEE) Services for Ruth Rebecca Tennant Yarbrough, 81, of Wedowee were

Ga.
   Mrs. Yarbrough died Wednesday, February 15, at Wedowee Hospital.
   Mrs. Yarbrough is survived by two daughters, Janice Lawson of Wedowee; Beth 
Wilson of Loganville, Ga.; two grandchildren; two brothers, William Bartow 
Tennant of Chesapeake, Va., and Charles Tennant of Dublin, Ga.; two sisters, 
Sarah Benefield of Hoover and Mary Jane Shumate of Tuscaloosa; two sisters-in-
law and many special nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Yarbrough was born May 29, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Nancy 
Carpenter Tennant. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bainbridge, Ga., 
and had been a teacher at Bainbridge State Hospital.   Mrs. Yarbrough was 
preceded in death by her husband, Ocie Yarbrough, and one son, Larry Yarbrough.

Mildred Goode Harris

   (LAGRANGE, Ga.) Mildred Harris, 65, of LaGrange, Ga., died Friday, Feb. 10, 
2006, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.
   Ms. Harris, a native of Troup County, Ga., was born Aug. 19, 1940, and was 
the daughter of the late Zion Goode and Beatrice Harris Rachel.
   Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Harris and Janice Meadows; 13 
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Janelle Baker of Roanoke; 
two brothers, Goody Goode of Tampa, Fla., and Joe Lewis Goode of Roanoke; a 
brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Ms. Harris was 
preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca Hudson.
   The funeral service was Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Lakes-
Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home. The Rev. J.R. Ware officiated. Burial was in
